correct me if wrong, but if you play really badly on your flexq but ace your performance in soloq the bad performance in flex won't affect the soloq mmr(?)

Flex queue right now should have a small influence on flex queue placement after the season starts, but no influence on solo/duo queue.

But I finished all of my placements and said I would start at (X rank) once the season starts, what does that mean?

It probably was just saying you were placed at X rank for flex queue. Flex queue and solo/duo are totally separate though, so what you do in one won't influence the other.

There will be a reset when the season starts and everyone will have to do placements (10 flex queue placements and 10 solo/duo queue placements) again, and so be given new ranks for each. Your starting mmr for both will be influenced by your dyanmic queue rank last season, and your flex queue only mmr will be influenced slightly by games played during preseason.
