I was complaining about Riot being slow to balance stuff to my Brother in Law.

And he told me the story of how Games Workshop left the Daemon army in Warhammer Fantasy (Tabletop) in a state rivaling release Xin for five years.

Suddenly I feel a lot better about my choice in hobbies.

always remember, Starcraft took 2 years to nerf the Zergling rush.

lDontLiftIcarry1 votes

how do people lose to zerglings in sc2? go play broodwar.

If you think you even know what a rush is... you don't play or haven't played broodwar... 15 supply 2 lurkers before terran has comstat.

Using zerglings to keep them from scouting.

ChaoticPinecone4 votes

oh - i mean original starcraft. When it came out, spawning pool cost 150 (200 including the drone). 2 years before they increased it to 200 (250), since everybody would spawn 6 zerglings then kill all the enemies SCVs.

Yep. 3 minute zerglings, give or take.

And now Zerg is considered very weak by many. Not only did they take a long time to nerf it, they made it UP overall afterwards to most.

I've never played Starcraft, I do play Sins of a Solar Empire though. The T.E.C.'s frigate rush (I understand to be the same concept) is always a pain to deal with though.

. . . Of course, then I get to pay them back with Vasari portals opening all over the damn place so I can whisk my armies to anywhere you're not. ;p

Eh, Blizzards MOBA, Heroes of the Storm has had a 60% winrate hero, who is unbalanced by design, remain unnerfed for about 4 months, the fact that he's an instant competitive pick AND also a pubstomper doesn't phase Blizzard who insist this is fair because he is hard to play.

who? im new too HoTS

Vikings.

Seriously, the game has shared xp as it's only resource and they believe they can have a hero who can get 3 times more exp than the rest of the roster AND is a brutal teamfighter to boot.

AbsoluteSadman1 votes

I never get pubstomped by ToV.

Of course im probably still in the mmr where people dont get them

Bhargo8 votes

Is anyone really surprised by it though? Blizzard has always been pretty terrible at balance, and their latest teams are the worst. Although honestly it doesn't matter, HotS is garbage anyway.

Eh, it's a nice change of pace from the daily LoL grind. DawnGate was better, but there really aren't a lot of good choices out there right now.

Tried it. Bought the "unlock everything forever" package during the closed beta. Still couldn't stick with it.

To each their own.

Ha, I did the same thing. I play with my friends a lot, and they're really into the game (one guy literally, I shit you not, owns everything in the game. Skins, voice packs, ward skins. Everything). After playing groups with them, my mmr is so high that I'm going against people with rank 10 gods, while my highest is 2 (and I only have like 10 gods with any mastery total). I pretty much can't play unless those guys are around to carry me :P

Remlap12231 votes

Blizzard is, without question, the worst game balancers ever. They make Riot look like HiRez.

Can the poor guys win? If they nerf quickly they get called out for "knee-jerk reactions", if they don't, they get this...

I think they have struck a good balance this season. Long may it continue.

I am glad you feel that way. As someone who has had two of my mains gutted and left rotting in the same state for endless months I can't share the same mindset.

The problem is they tend to nef some champs fast and others never.

There are multiple cases such as the strong state champs such as Yasuo, Zed, Nidalee, Lee Sin, and so on stayed in for the longest of times (over a year with each other them) without any significant nerfs, sometimes even buffs.

Then you have stuff like rework Skarner, played in 1 game, nerfed to pointless (people don't even play him in solo queue)

It just seems odd how they completely ignore nerfing some champs for what seems like ages, while they will jump over each other to bat other champs into obscurity without a second thought.

This season I will admit, they have done a much better job of champ wise, but they still need some work on items a little, though that is a much more minor complaint in this case.

The majority of those strong champions are only strong when played correctly which is why you see such below average winrates on them. The majority of people complaining about them aren't even at the skill level where these champions excel. The community tends to just hivemind without actually knowing what they are talking about. If riot nerfed based on that this game would turn to shit quite fast.

Skarner was pick/ban when he was strong. It wasnt one game. It was pick this or ban this. That's why you cant listen to the community. People either forget or dont know why a champion was nerfed in the first place.

Even if riot does nothing at all a champion can go from strong to weak or weak to strong. Remember all of the buff lissandra threads then riot did nothing to her, she became OP and there was a river of nerf lissandra threads. In a constantly changing game who is strong today could be weak tomorrow and vice versa even if you don't nerf or buff them.

kile1471 votes

Lissandra was helped by the mana regen nerfs at the beginning of the season, since she has a passive that saves mana she could take the place of a lot of spammier mages that got hit hard.

That's part of my point though. Riot did not buff her when people asked for it and she became strong anyway. Then riot didn't nerf her when she got strong and she fell out of favor. Yet people still cry that riot doesnt nerf or buff enough and that nothing will change until they do it when history has taught us that is wrong.

kile1472 votes

True, but that's like the most unpleasant way to buff a champ, they didn't fix any of her issues, just gave everyone else more issues.

Agreed and I think that the pro play completely justifies it as well this season. The beginning of the season it was all cut and paste teams and we've seen a lot of chapion diversity since then. UOL even proved this by winning games with champs such as shaco jungle. They are a cheezier team but you can technically win a pro game with any comp if you play to your win conditions.

Welcome to Table Top Gaming. And here is your host, Games Workshop! "We've decided that we're going to release these new guys into the game! Their basic unit can one shot any and all enemy units. Even vehicles, objects, etc. To balance this, everyone else can now move slightly farther. Good night, and don't forget to send us all of your money!"

Yeah, and people complain about REWORKS!

Kingsgrave3 votes

Riot's only real balancing problem is their obsession with testing. Feels like they spend months on 2-3 changes, release them and are always surprised it's not exactly what they thought would happen because their not at all biased test subject employees are always correct, always.

3TWarrior2 votes

need we forget the latest disaster release, RekSai , lol, first release that i know of that could take on an entire team...at level 2-3, maybe even 1, good thing they did something that somehow made that not occur...what was it again...they nerfed her E but how did that affect her when it's her W and Q that do damage

Only Play Darius5 votes

Rek'Sai was overtuned but she was not mind-blowingly overpowered like release XinZhao Zyra Leblanc

Holgranth1 votes

Release Zyra was special because huge numbers of people at all elo's dismissed her as a "worse hiemer". I knew better when I saw a 0-2 Zyra with no items get a 1v4 quadra two days after release.

Mayweather still isn't balanced. Stupid OP win ratio and dodged w/out losing LP for forever bc when he did play they gave him loss prevented. Plus Mayweather starts at lvl3 from the experience he gets before the game starts. Domestic violence exp needs to be balanced. WTF Rito, nerf Mayweather already!

I remember when Spellbreakers in Warcraft 3 had heavy armor... Oh the horror..

Tis a nice day1 votes

But I thought heavy armor just meant you took more damage from magic attacks without giving you any reductions in exchange.

You receive reductions from piercing damage. It was really easy to get spell breakers early and most players at the tier 2 level had ranged units.

Tis a nice day1 votes

I actually hear this a lot, yet I can't ever find a source saying that piercing damage deals **less **to heavy armor.

Also according to this guide, Heavy armor in WC3 Reign of Chaos took more damage from piercing attacks. Frozen throne Heavy armor took more from magic.

Not trying to disagree or attack you or anything. I played WC3 during childhood, yet it feels like both I and the internet somehow have selective amnesia regarding the advantages of heavy armor and it bothers me :(

Champion Skin1 votes

http://classic.battle.net/war3/basics/armorandweapontypes.shtml

If this is correct then in WC3 TFT (expansion) then heavy armor took normal damage from all sources and double damage from magic attacks

However in WC3 RoC (base game) Heavy armor took 1.5 times damage from piercing/ranged and normal (1.0 times damage) from all other sources

If the link above is correct

Tis a nice day1 votes

Yes. Which confuses me on why I often hear that heavy armor is overpowered.

Champion Skin1 votes

Well spell breakers pretty much had no weakness (immune to magic and takes normal damage from everything else) and on top of that they have the the ability to transfer debuffs from your units to enemy units or buffs from enemy units to yours and they also burn mana from targets they are attacking (and the target takes damage equal to the mana burned)

And well most high tier units had heavy armor I believe? I am not quite sure about that

Now consider that people exist on these very boards who would also call X champion you think is pretty balanced "release Xin."

QQers always make imbalance sound worse than it is, I imagine your brother in law is no different.

Only the guy who wrote that Daemons codex outright admitted they were overpowered as shit.

When asked about why the Daemons codex was so disproportionately strong, Mat Ward said,"It'd be a shame if they weren't."

Guy's a fucking badass.
