Season 8: a season to reflect on
Alright so, season 8 was one hell of a season and were roughly one month into the preseason, I thought it'd be a nice idea to look back on what was considered league of legends worst season yet.
Preseason- Preseason saw the release of Zoe, the aspect of twilight and a new mage added into the game, many people at first thought this to be Disney taking over league of legends(oh how they were wrong) and saw the release o0f the removal of masteries and the new runes reforged. The runes reforged had several complaints about it so let's walk through them, Press the attack was basically the only rune good with bruisers at the time since conquerer wasn't added in yet, lethal tempo was a forgotten rune used by almost nobody seriously. Predator was a sucky rune that no one liked and worked on like one champion, Dark harvest was broken as shit and no counterplay was available. Grasp of the undying was the only rune you could take top lane and win, this made tanks inevitably more powerful than almost every other class. And kleptomancy gave you a car every 2 seconds. As soon as preseason started Zoe was a make or break champion, you either picked her before the enemy and almost always won the game, or you got beaten to the punch and lost, or you just banned her and the game became a coin toss.
Season 8 January-march: Tyler1 gets unbanned and there's a big spike in players(its true), top lane is being crushed by top lane tanks like Ornn, Maoki, Sion, and Malphite, Bruisers are nonexistent and the only good one at the time was Camille. Mid lane was still being ruled by Zoe and was picked or banned almost every LCS game you saw. Zoe got her first nerf in February which nerfed her E duration by 1 second, this sent the player base into an uproar and made everyone angry, oh yea and in March I do have to mention that a meme was born, ahem...."RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT THROUGH THE COUNTER-STRIKE" Jungle was in a very awkward position since now of the runes were particularly great with anyone, they also removed trackers knife sending lee sin mains into a frenzy of anger. Adc's were in a horrible position given that they were doing no damage and they would blow up if sneezed on, and you couldn't really play a support who wasn't a tank and end up winning. Swain receives his rework and it is generally accepted as a good rework.
Season 8 April-July: Conquerer is added making bruisers unstoppable and shit on tanks since they nerfed grasp of the undying. Irelia's rework is here and on release is considered by most to be very weak, complaints about her W were a common reason why she was bad, he E stun was too short etc. 8.11 signed the death of ADC's for a few months, Crit was redone completely and made it very difficult for Adc's to do well in lane and to even be a relevant class, Aatrox's rework was FINALLY here and was seen as one of the worst reworks riot has ever done, at first people thought it was Riven 2.0, his scaling was bad, his dash was shit, and his Q had an insanely long cooldown for his only damage ability in his kit. He got some quality of life changes and BOOM, LCS every single game. Zoe is also nerfed to the ground.
Season 8 August-November: Most of what everyone hated is fixed, Adc's are relevant but still quite weak, Zoe's reign of terror is over, and we got a mercy period for a couple of months.....until akali. Akali's rework was largely hated right from the start, her obscure effect made her impossible to dive and hiding behind you turret was meaningless. She has 3 dashes, one of which followed through all terrain, the other did true damage, and another magic damage and an execute. This made many people angry and upset considering that she had almost no counterplay. Nunu became Nunu and willump and was a nice rework to league of legends, many people thought him weak, many thought him strong, and everything in between.
Anyways that's my season 8 year in review. I hope season 9 is a better season and I'll see you all later.
