You want to know my biggest fear for the Mage Update?
It's that for months after the update mages will become pick/ban (hello Juggernauts) or we'll transition to a meta where picking 3+ mages a game is considered normal (hello Marksmen).

Well to be at least somewhat fair to Riot:
It's that for months after the update mages will become pick/ban (hello Juggernauts)
This was mostly the Community's fault
or we'll transition to a meta where picking 3+ mages a game is considered normal (hello Marksmen).
If the Mage rework presents as much diversity as the Marksman rework offered, on top of the fact that some of the Mages we already have are already more flexible than the Marksmen before the rework, it won't be surprising if Marksman and Mages compete for team slots.

That's a very good point and makes things seem fairly hopeful.
It was Community's fault Riot can't interpret for shit.
Skarner, really weak outside of spires, really strong near them. Any buffs to his "weak" side would make his "strong" side utterly broken. Instead of changing those idiotic spires in any shape or form, they went out with buffing his weak side.
Darius, highly unreliable, but with toxic mechanic that doubles or triples damage for landing a bunch of hits. Doing anything about his unreliability made him a monster that required a hotfix nerf.
None of the mechanics Juggernauts were given was good for the game. Not a single one. Riot didn't care and left them untouched.
On which part of the Community you want to blame it, the one that plead to Riot to pull those questionable changes back or the one that didn't want their champions to be garbage in any, but the perfect situation Riot thought about?
Except, many people that did post had zero issues with the spires in terms of "too strong". Hell, some even talked down on it in regards to free access for enemy team to get gold and how it only puts pressure on Skarner's team to stay on top of things, and all people complained about was Darius' unreliability. It's also inaccurate to say that since the big change to his Q actually made it even more unreliable for a higher possible outcome when used well.
Even I'd find it difficult to interpret exactly what you want when the consensus was contrary to what you say.
I'm not even scared of that. Game would be more fun than with the AA based Champion meta.
Lux will be in every game.
Oh wait.
Return of VEIGER WITH VENGEANCE! >:D
My fear is that the Morde treatment will return. oh and that other people play Malzahar. I enjoy being the only Malz player. the rest I've played against do stupid shit like rush ludens and i crush them in mirror lanes
wait until the rework cassio. good luck.
Mages cover a lot of roles from high burst to siege so I won't be hurt by seeing ppl going around 2-3 strategies instead of "we just need to win Team fights with overtuned ADCs".
I think that's why they're updating mages. We now have ADCs and Tanks in prevalence because they were updated effectively. All we need now is the mage update and the game should enter a stage where an particular imbalances can actually be adjusted instead of entire classes of champions being better itemized than another, and redesigned to actually work. Mages are a little strange in the meta because they don't reflect the evolution yet, they reflect the old state of the game.
If I can't play Zyra anymore I'm gonna be pissed.
IKR Im hoping that she will have more QoL updated then a full trash rework. She just needs QoL changes and a new passive then she is golden.
Most of the mages in the update are really only getting one thing changed about them like an ability or passive and maybe some stats but the Rioter working on Zyra noted that he wanted to "make the jungle come to life around her", new passive? :)))) Im sure she will still do a lot of damage with a high skill cap but I'm just worried she will be banned.
The difference between the mage patch and the other rework patches are that the mage patch is specifically meant to diversify magic damage dealing champions. The juggernaut update and marksman update brought along both magic and physical damage champions to the table as strong, along with items from each respective class that made them seem too strong (sterak's, maw, iceborn, dead man's, etc.) Mage items most likely wont overlap. They might make them strong in other roles, but i think Riot learned their lesson from the first two.
i'm worried they will pull a Riot and say "we think mages are too versatile therefore we have taken out all mobility from every mage"
They better not touch my Lux
