PSA; "Wanna duo?"

(Before I get in to this, has anybody been asked "wanna duo" by someone higher ranked than them? Diamond friends never ask, but gold and silvers are hitting me up every day until I tell them to piss off >_>)

So, you want to duo in Ranked with a friend you met in-game (normals, ranked, bots, what have you), do you? Alright! There are a few (three) steps you need to take before you ask someone to duo, or if they want to duo with you.

Step 1 - Check their rank It stands to reason that a fair many higher-elo players will not want to duo ranked, especially not with lower-ranked players (talking whole Leagues below). It's a handicap and Ranked is for tryharding. It's generally seen as "Will you boost me" if a lower-ranked player asks someone to duo, ESPECIALLY if they haven't played any games with you recently. If they're an IRL friend, or you've done Ranked together a lot and they just ranked faster than you did, this isn't applicable because irls tend to play together a lot.

Step 2 - Check their badge Y'know that thing Riot has implemented, with the solo-dynamic-team badge after 25 games? That isn't only visible to the person who has the badge! It's a simple few clicks to pull up their profile and see if they have a Dynamic/Team badge. If you see a Solo Preference badge, odds are the response will always be a "no", as solo is their preference, and they've played at least 23-24 out of the past 25 games in solo queue.

Step 3 - Chat them up first Nobody, and I mean nobody, likes seeing something like this; "Hey wanna duo?" with no chat history or communication. That is another outlying cry of "Hey please boost me". If you talk to them frequently and get along, invite them for a few normals, and then on your next Ranked spree invite them along.

Disclaimer: This thread was made out of frustration at "wanna duo" messages out of nowhere. Rules are dynamic and may differ from person to person. Stop playing Teemo in Ranked and asking people to duo. I'm looking at you, Sharon.

Last step: learn to say no without being a dick.

"No thank you!" But when you're worn thin, you stop being nice. However, that would be something I put on a PSA for responding to those "Wanna duo?" messages, and not on a PSA for asking people to duo.

Speak for yourself. I've been asked to duo from people of higher rank than myself and I've asked to duo with people of higher rank than myself and they said yes. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean nobody should ask ever. And just because someone is of a lower rank asking to duo with someone in a higher rank doesn't always mean they're trying to get boosted. You may be frustrated by it but your experience isn't the same as everyone else's. Also, if you don't like playing with people of lower rank then why did you add them in the first place?

I don't like playing ranked with people of lower rank than me. I mainly play Normals and will usually add fun people after running in to them 2 or 3 games in a row. I did specify that this was talking about duoing ranked, and not normals.

Also, I'm not saying to never ask ever. I'm giving some tips on how to go about asking, and when you should be wary about asking.

Your very first paragraph said they ask you a lot until you finally tell them to piss off. This leads me to believe you never want to play with them which leads me to believe you never want them to ask ever.

Yes, I get asked a lot. And it's never through a conversation (which I've suggested. "Chat them up",) but instead just a "Wanna duo?" "Hey Happy, duo?" "Ranked?". Never a normals invite, nothing to get me familiar with them and their playstyle. That's why I suggest that it's good to invite to normals and properly befriend the person you want to duo ranked with if you don't know them IRL before you invite them again and again and again.

Then might I suggest instead of ignoring them and eventually being a dick and saying piss off why don't you tell them you'd prefer to play a norm first.

It'd get tiring typing it again and again; Hence the PSA, to help others in the same predicament.

Sure it might help those on the boards but you personally will still have that problem if the people on your friends list don't get on the boards/ see this post. That's all I really have to say about this topic. Good luck to you.
