Ashe is supposed to be the CC Marksmen, right?

Rebonack··3 votes·655 views

And the idea was that her crits are supposed to make that CC more powerful rather than amping damage, yes?

So how about this.

Ashe's critical strikes Root the target champion for (duration). If Ashe has Rooted a given enemy champion in the last (cooldown) her critical strikes instead amplify her passive slow against them by (percentage).

There you go.

Increasing her power via her CC, which is supposed to be the reason why you pick her, right?

A ranged on hit RNG hard CC man I don't see how this could go wrong at all!

Roots aren't hard CC.

Stuns, Fears, Knockups, ect are hard CC. A hard crowd control effect prevents your champion from doing anything while under its effect.

Any thing that completely stops your champion movement or action entirely is a hard CC.

If it stops Yi in his ult, it's hard CC.

There is a different definition of hard CC, being any CC that interrupts channeling spells (ex: Fiddle's ult)

This definition technically makes silence a hard CC while making snare a soft CC, while the other definition (CCs that completely interrupt movement) make the opposite.

Not that I agree with the OP, but consider that. To be honest, Riot never gave to us a proper definiton of what constitutes hard CC and soft CC.

They did (sort of) back on the old web page. There was a set of pages that explained basic game mechanics and so forth. It was removed for whatever reason when the website was updated.

The League Wiki sums up the major ways of classifying CC pretty well (loss of control vs channel vs movement). Under the first deffinitional system, silence and roots aren't hard CC. 's the system I got use to from playing DotA before League was released. The one you brought up is the channel definition where silence is hard CC but roots aren't. And the last is the movement definition where roots are hard CC by silence isn't.

I wasn't even aware that folks used the movement definition until literally this topic.

Ah well, that's semantics for you.

Roots are hard CC actually.

"hard" is a somewhat ambiguous term, but in most circumstances when people say "hard CC" they mean Roots too.

Root on ranged autos is simply too strong. There's no way to balance this, especially if it happened every time Ashe crit.

It wouldn't happen every time she crits.

Think Udyr's bearslap. An internal champion-tied cooldown. If she crit again while it was on cooldown, she would get an augmented slow instead as per live.

Yeah, but Udyr is a melee champion with no dashes. Bear form gives him a ridiculous amount of stickiness and makes it so him getting in the middle of your team is a massive disruption, borderline to being a death sentence. When Ashe, who has one of the longest auto ranges in the game, can easily get one root against every champion that enters her auto range it would be much too strong a tool for her.

A closer analogue to this would be Kennen who has no other cc on his kit besides his passive and needs 5 auto attacks to apply one-third of his stun. He can't apply a stun with only autos and needs to spend his ability cooldowns on them.

I think it would be smarter to replace Ashe's current Q with her old one and buff her slows, then do something different with her passive. Riot doesn't seem to want Ashe to be able to deal much damage when she can slow so easily so just take away that damage tool and let her slows really shine.

This would also be a pretty solid plan.

My suggestions (stupid or otherwise) aren't meant to be a hard and fast solution.

They're meant to facilitate discussion. And sometimes a really dumb idea gets more conversation going than a good one.

The long and short of it, Riot should really focus Ashe down on her crowd control effects, regardless of how they do it. Reliable CC is the reason you're supposed to be picking Ashe. If you wanted really great damage from good range, there are lots of other choices.

Mages and tanks are typically the ones based around crowd control.

Well no shit.

Ashe's whole thing has been that she's an atypical Marksmen with access to both hard and soft CC in addition to a strong initiation.

Princess Emma1 votes

She has crowd control, but I wouldn't say she is a crowd control marksmen by heart.

Riot did say upon remaking her that they were going for a cc style of marksmen. She however does not have access to hard CC, just to soft CC. Even her ult at max distance just applies a stronger slow, which is soft CC. Giving her hard CC would be far too overpowered. Every second shot she roots you?!? I'd be 7/0 by minute 10 without even backing.

...Ashe's Ult is a stun to the primary target and a slow to secondary targets.

If a root was to really added to her.

I'd say give some target debuff stacking mechanic to her Q active (with crits adding double stacks) and if she hits X stacks she roots the target for Y seconds and then has a cooldown on that target for Z seconds.

So what I got out of this was YYZ.....du...du du du du....du du du du du...du du du..du du du du....du du du du du ..du du du...du ....du...du (hummed it in your head didn't you ^.^)

Phoenix Kotori 1 votes

Let me make it simple enough then put something like Braum passive on during her active Q and she roots and only she can proc it.

That works too.

The popularity of Speedies is really eroding Ashe's ability to function.

The change Riot made to her crit interaction didn't help.

Oh for goodness sake.

Slows: Slows is slows. Soft Disables: Prevents you from controlling one or two aspects of your champion (disable movement, disable spell casting, disable basic attacks). Hard Disables: Prevents you from controlling all three aspects of your champion.

Hard Disables are hard because they stop you from doing anything. Soft Disables are soft because you can still do some things, but not all things. Slows are not disables because they don't stop you from doing anything, they just slow it down.

Come on, guys. This is basic stuff.

op are you aware that adc can easily achieve 100% crit with their new items? she would not even need armor pen anymore, as it would be impossible for her opponent to move. she could just sit there and auto him to death with no chance of retaliation or escape.

I swear to God I'm not even sure why I bother anymore.

The opening post says that the Root effect would have a champion-specific cooldown. Think Udyr's bearslap. You wouldn't be able to root-lock people. Only Ryze is allowed to do that.

She does decently in lower play levels. The higher you get the more she drops off. The ubiquity of Swifties really hurts her as well. Adding more CC to her kit (whether via crit or via Focus stacks like someone else suggested) would help to further cement her kite's identity. It's something that she could be balanced around.

Ideally, every champion should have a compelling reason to pick them.

MisterHealYoGirl1 votes

I mean, the problem with Ashe right now is that she just doesn't offer enough damage to make her worthwhile. In kite-based metas, Ashe flourishes; in damage and burst based metas, she flounders. It's not necessarily a problem with Ashe in particular, it's just that the meta doesn't favor her strengths right now.

You're the reason why people scoff when Silvers and below begin giving out "balance" ideas.

You're the reason why people scoff when Silvers and below begin giving out "balance" ideas.

When Riot changed Ashe's slow augment from an active to an OnCrit effect, was that a balance change or a champion identity change?

It altered her relative balance, clearly. Any change will to some degree. But why do you suppose Riot did what they did?
