Gettin real sick of the ranked LP system.

Starting to get really annoyed at their current rank system. I have worked so hard to get out of b5, and on NUMEROUS occassions i have! Ive been promoted more times than i can count. Do you know why? Because im capable of carrying a bad team with talon. Im capable of getting a quadra with rammus consistently. Because i know how to play an adc lucian. Im not bad at this game. I have bad games, but who doesnt? I mean, with certain fluke games aside, 70% of the time, i can go 20-5 with talon consistently. Im not talking "I went 20-5 with talon a few times, and now im saying im mad proz." Im talking "Check my freaking match history, there have been 3 or 4 games out of 15 that i havent quadrupled my KD, and ive only lost once with him." Now i know this sounds like a rant about how i shouldnt be low elo. Thats not what im complaining about. You see, im laying the foundation to a complaint. Im giving a little bit of backstory before i open the real can of gummy worms. Its 100% obvious im better than most b5 players, or else i wouldnt get promoted out of b5 so often. So i have a question. And if you caught a few key words in the above text, you probably already know what im about to bitch about.

WHY THE HELL DO I GET DEMOTED BACK TO B5 AFTER A SINGLE LOSS?

Dont give me that protected games bullshit, because im living evidence thats not the case. First of all let me point out the fact that when youre in b5, you get roughly 20 LP per victory. When im in b4, however, im lucky to get 7. So why is it, that i go to b4, win 4 or 5 games in a row. (This is a true story, im NOT exaggerating, it just happened today.) which put me at forty some odd LP, Lose once, and im down to 8 LP, and on my second loss, i was demoted. FOR THOSE NOT FOLLOWING, I HAD A 5-2 RECORD IN B4, AND WAS DEMOTED BECAUSE I LOST THOSE 2 GAMES IN A ROW. Like i said, dont bullshit me, because this happened just today. Just now. In fact, i got demoted, and immediately came here to bitch xD.

Maybe im missing mechanics. Maybe i dont know as much about the way the LP system works as i thought i did. Maybe I dont do as well as i had thought, and league catches on to my play style and says "nah dude, this is b5 play style." Or maybe im just seriously unlucky. I dunno.

So basically, I came here because i want answers. If you know something i dont, fill me in. If you can explain why this is, or you know how the ranking system works better than I do, please fill me in. Because I have no clue how this works, and its keeping me in bronze 5. I dont want b5. I dont WANT to be b5. I want to, as the kids say, 'get good'.

Oh, id also like to point out that even games i lose, i have decent records on. Its not like i win 20-5 on 4 games, then lose one thats 3-103 .

Thanks ahead of time, From Reixis with love

I can answer this for you. Actually, I have two answers.

First is the LP issue. Tier, Division, and LP are related to MMR in a sort of elastic way. You have this hidden MMR score, right? It used to be visible. Riot made it invisible starting in Season 3 when they implemented the divisions we have now. Each division is supposed to correlate to a certain MMR range. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that Silver II is 1300-1400 MMR. For various reasons, your MMR might not match the division you're in. You'll always be matched with people based on your MMR. In order to drag your division to match your MMR, it will increase or decrease your LP gains and losses. If you're in Silver II with 1600 MMR, you'll earn more LP than normal and lose less LP than normal. This ensures that your ranking will get dragged upward even if you go pretty even in your wins and losses. And if you are playing like an actual Silver II (1300 MMR), you'll be winning less than you lose but your LP will remain about the same so you don't fall out.

For certain players, this system actively hides your progress. Especially Bronze V. That's the negative thing about the system. It is nice to see some indicator go up or down as you become a better or worse player. If you are in Bronze V, maybe your MMR is 800. Or maybe it's 400. Everyone at the bottom all gets a generic "Bronze V" badge. But maybe you're 400. You win a bunch, and your MMR goes up to 500, but that's still below the appropriate Bronze V MMR. So the system continues to drag your LP down because your division doesn't match your MMR. The key to all this is that you can improve significantly while in Bronze V, but still show the same Bronze V ranking even though your MMR has gone up. If you're winning more than you lose, your hidden MMR is getting better. You just can't see it, because the LP system is determined to keep you in Bronze IV or V until you're actually playing against legit Bronze Vs and winning. Right now, you are not. You're playing against people who are 400, and it doesn't mean anything if you're going about 50/50 or maybe a little better.

It is because of this that you get stuck with the misconception that you are "better than most b5 players, or else i wouldnt get promoted out of b5 so often". B5 encompasses everyone who is below B4, and you are not necessarily playing against "real" B5 players when you're getting those wins.

So, the second thing is about skill. I'm sure you've heard a lot of people say "If you're in Bronze V it's because you're legit awful, get good if you want to climb out." And that can be really really frustrating when you know that you're good—when you can clearly see things you're good at that others are bad at. But here's the kicker. There are things you're doing that are not good, and you don't know that you're doing them because they kinda sorta work okay in Bronze V. Let me take an example from your most recent game. You played jungle Rammus. Now, nevermind what everyone else on your team was doing wrong (avert your eyes from the cs-taking IE teleport Sona). According to op.gg, you started with Machete and 2 pots, and then on your first back at 7 minutes, you bought a cloth + chain vest. Next shopping trip you picked up boots. You didn't upgrade Machete until 11 minutes, and didn't enchant it until 19. This is easily identifiable as a mistake. Thornmail may be core on Rammus but you don't delay the machete upgrade. You also kept your yellow trinket all game and did not buy a single ward. Plain-as-day area for improvement. Just at a very brief glance, I also see Teleport/Ignite on Talon instead of Flash, I see double IE in one game, I see a support Brand game with no wards, I see more than zero Essence Reavers. I see a lot of things crushing your chances of ever holding your own against Silver players.

It really sucks to not know what it is that you're doing wrong, because you can see the things you are doing right, and you can especially see the things that you know how to do right when others on your team do them wrong. So let me do this for you. I'm Gold. That ain't great. But I am sure that if I watch you, I can help you figure out what kind of things you're doing wrong. I can only do so much from looking at match history; replays or live spectates will be much more useful. I'm about to go on stream and I'll be on for a couple hours at least. If you stop by, I would like to offer to spectate you for a game or two so that I can provide some more quality help. If you are interested, here's the link. Or if you don't want me watching you on stream, come by and just chat and we'll work something out. Best of luck!

For the talon build's try yommu's ghostblade instead of black cleaver. Also, there's never a reason to build essence reaver on Talon. Building Infinity edge is fine only when you have another crit chance item to increase the chance of actually critting. Vapora has a very good guide on how to build talon, try using that.

I was b3 most of this season, until I started playing ranked in like october, and now I'm low gold. What I'd have to say is to learn to adc, its literally the easiest role to carry from, because of the current meta. You can easily carry less skilled players if you have a hyper carry like trist, jinx, draven, or vayne. Also, try to find a good player to duo que with. Even if they aren't as good as you are, its still gonna be one less person feeding.

If you are losing like 32 points/ loss then your mmr must be lower than that of a b4 player, and the system is attempting to place you down at the b5 level. Your mmr is actually 983 which is below the average for your league, that being 1006. (looked it up for you on op.gg.net) So that's probably why you are losing so much lp for each match. Its weird that the system would demote you when you had 8 lp, you are usually only demoted if you lose with 0 lp.

Gotta throw a thank you to OHBOYITSAMEGAMAN for helping out. He spectated a few of my games and we worked out some of my weaknesses. I understand a little more about MMR now, thank you all. I only recently started taking ranked games actually seriously, so my MMR was really really low, and now that im actually trying, its going up. I remember it being 400 according to OP.GG at one point, but i didnt think anything of it, because i didnt realize what that number was. So basically, my account was so far in the negative skill counters, that the game keeps rubberbanding me back as i slowly climb back up to a normal MMR. So i guess for now i just gotta keep playing, and fixing my MMR damage, and worry about getting into b4 once im back where i should be.

I AM THEBOXINGGHOST - I actually know exactly what build youre talking about, and i dont care for it. I understand the build, and the details of the build, and i consider that build to be my "core", but i adjust it based on the game. So for example, if i see that literally NO ONE is building armor, then screw armor penn, i might as well go all out AD. If i see theres ALOT of armor, then i go for yomuus, cleaver, and that other standard penn item whos name escapes me. item 3035 <--- that one. You know what im sayin? I dont feel that theres a single build out there that is universal for all games on a character.

Hey dude, it will be annoying, i feel you so hard here. I started off the season in S2 based on my 10 games, compared to how good i am now, i have improved 300% and im in B5. I know why im in bronze 5 though, because i flame at my team, because their plays suck, because they feed, because they dont buy wards or listen to my pings. Its so annoying so i flame at them, why? because ive been declining from s2 for ages.

OhBoyItsMegaMan is right though, its not about your team its about you, i dont flame now because it loses games, i buy wards because its crucial, i make plays that u can see on gold level players and i positively re-enforce every kill me team gets and ignore every death. Ive won my last 8 games in ranked in a row, and gone from B5 to B4 1/2 , in one day, gg i say.

Im not a pro but im a lot better than bronze and i dont need a rank to tell me that, one thing that i learnt from playing so much bronze (100 games in bronze) is that people in bronze think that turrets make them invisible, like level 10 and they will hug the turret thinking it gives them a mad shield or something, its so funny to dive them because they have no idea what hit them.
