Since you decided to gut the champion entirely, I think it would make alot more sense if galio was reverted to his old kit design, which was a good counterpick into ap mages and actually made cool plays, unlike the current version that is so disabled he can't even flash w anymore. He is so bad that there isn't even enough sample size for data for him.

They don’t give a shit about the older player base. They need to create buzz around the game for new people with wallets, so they remake a old champion to save server space then completely ignored the mains of those champions unless it’s so loud that it’s impossible to ignore.

It's an outdated design and was only a "counter" to mages because the items worked in his favor. Now, with the changes to mage items and the changes to Athene's, it wouldn't work. That's why it needed reworking in the first place.
If anything, they might want to look at giving him an almost entirely different ultimate.

The Ecdysiast3 votesMmm... That wouldn't work either, since right after the rework (7.6) was also right before the all-around tank item nerfs that hit in 7.9. So because they wanted to make absolutely certain that tanks would never be meta again, they've been doing what they can to remove defense in favor of damage. For some, like Galio, that's meant flipping their primary and secondary roles.
So we can't go back to that Galio. Although the one we have, the one they wanted "back", doesn't work all that well either. Since the items his entire kit revolved around-- Athene's and Banshee's Scepter-- were changed. Which means they're forced to make him more of a glass cannon because the items that granted both MR and mage amounts of AP don't do that any more.
So what can they do? I'm not sure. But a full revert wouldn't work without also reverting every change to every AP and MR item.

. I actually think the new items would suit him quite well. Righteous glory would be amazing on him and I think a lot of people would use protobelt on him. There are also runes like approach velocity, revitalize, conditioning, presence of mind, ultimate hunter, hex flash, biscuits, and overheal which would all be really good on him.
I think the things most old Galio players want reverted are his W and R. I liked his old Q and E better but would at least play him again on a regular basis if they would revert his W and R.

Also don't force him to be even more niche than before and getting rid of all his utilities for damage, as of now Galio is worse against ad than compared to Malphite against ad champs. I want him to have his damage reduction the same not halved against ad champions and have his flash taunt plays back. And he has old darius's problem where if he builds full ap he'll unhealthily burst people down which is not what a warden should do and if he build too tanky he can't do much to contribute with his abilities and make him a wet noodle that does less damage than your average tank occasionally.
EDIT: Also bring back the cd reduction when he lands an ability on opponents too to show skill expression as well as damage reduction on his ult targeting someone. Again he's meant to peel people not nuke squishies.

Damoklese4 votesSee...I dont see making his powers less effective and more dependent upon each other to have a similar result to his old powers to be "better". id say that is 100% worse. His old E was effective attacking or supporting.. his old Q was simple damage with a slow. It was a small radius skill shot that wasnt especially fast as well, so it took some skill to use properly. They were a good combo because his Q was easier to hit with the closer you were..so you used his E to close distance quickly, then Q for the big damage, which was harder to avoid.
MiracleMorg941 votesAnd if you NEEDED a high CD kit to just flash R, you weren't playing him properly. I rarely flashed R on Galio and I played him a ton before his stupid rework. Last game on him I even got a quadra kill with my ult, without flashing.
Be smart and save your flashes for when you need to duck out for safety. Every once in awhile is fine. I even sometimes flash R with Annie if needed but I save my flash for defensive plays.
That Goyim1 votesPersonally, I think he should be made to be a mid laner or top laner. They should try to make him a counter to mages in a "non-assassin" way. Having him as a support doesn't really feel satisfying considering the whole petricide thing.
Legal Leaguer1 votesAs someone who got rank 7 mastery on Galio far before his rework, I 100% agree on a revert. Or at least revert his ult and W back to what they were before and keep his Q and E as they are now. The reason being is they've gutted his ult so much it's basically just a knockup gap closer; a knockup that is better down by the malphites and nauts of league. His biggest problem pre-rework was mana consumption. With the new line of Catalyst items plus the higher mana values many items have now, that would no longer be an issue for ap or tank galios. Plus his old W was killer for helping boost his ult and skill shots, or protecting adc's. And his ult was a game changer, unlike the hollow shell that it is today.
