The state of older ADCs/Marksmen
There's a few neglected champions who I think should be revisited with some love. (Especially with the ridiculous over the top kit this new champ is getting.) Look at the complexity and high skill ceiling most new champs get these days. Compare that with my neglected ADC's of yesteryear. Ashe, Miss Fortune, and arguably Varus. TLDR: Can these guys be brought up to competitive level in season 5?
First my favorite, Ashe. This champions kit could not be any more basic, lackluster, and hard to make any unexpected plays with. Zero Mobility, a sub-par AD spam skill (Volley) that's outshined by most others in its class; (Piltover Peacemaker, Buckshot, Zap, Piercing Light, Boomerang Blade, Explosive Shot, Piercing Arrow, etc.). Her sole power and ability to stand out in her role is a the ability to consistently slow one opponent and once every 80-100 sec. get off a stun arrow, that has pretty low damage and arguably low reliability. In season one this kit was very powerful, when paired with a build consisting of crit chance and attack speed. In season 4 going in to season 5, the high mobility gap closers and cc that comes standard on pretty much every champion these days makes this kit borderline useless. There's nothing Ashe can do so well that she's even a viable competitive choice. So what to do with Ashe? Possible Solution: Embrace the lore of a Frejord Hunter turned queen.
Passive: (Add) While out of combat and in brush, stacks build faster. Q: (Add) Passive: While Frost Shot is unactive, Crit hits add stacks (based on rank) to focus. W: (Add) Hits apply a half second snare before applying the slow. |OR| Enemies hit by volley will also freeze the ground beneath them that applies a slow. |OR| The spread of arrows can be controlled and multiple hits will apply extra damage or extra slow. E: Change Passive: After landing a crit, briefly increases ashe's mobility by x, increases by twice as much if in brush. R: Unchanged
We lose the gold farming ability, but we gain choices and playstyle. Ashe favors situations where she's in brush. By landing crit hits, she gains mobility. Q now is a choice between slows, and stacking faster crits. Volley has many potential spruce ups. This example is just one way to approach the idea of how to add depth and strategy to an otherwise one-dimensional champion.
MF is short and sweet. Send her back to the drawing board. Her kit is silly. Thematically it might seem concise, but make it rain and bullet time are some of the most toonish abilities in the game. Her kit doesn't really have a unique approach or identity that makes me feel like a swash buckling bounty hunter. I don't want to start a bash thread about whether MF's kit is good or not, but I believe they could do the same to her they did with heimer, karma, sion, etc. and spruce up the sensibility and play-ability of her kit. Possible Solution: Embrace the lore of a vixen bounty hunter.
Passive: While in auto-attack range of enemies gain 20 Move Speed, doubled if MF has been undamaged for 5 seconds.
Q: "Shock & Awe": Fire two shots straight forward (traveling next to each other parallel) these shots will naturally ricochet off of any targets until they've traveled their maximum distance, dealing damage to any enemies they hit. Ranks increase damage and distance (Ranks affect distance of bullet time)
W: “Heartbreaker/Impure Shots”:
Passive: The first time MF damages an opponent they are briefly slowed by a percentage (very low but increases per rank) for 1 second. This debuff cannot be applied to the same target again for 8 seconds.
Active: Auto attacks apply grievous wounds, and extra damage based on targets remaining hp for a few seconds.
E: “Bounty”: Target enemy champion becomes a bounty for MF for x seconds. Both of MF Passive’s have double efficacy with her “bounty”, and landing auto attacks against her bounty increase her attack speed by 5%/10%/15%/20%/25%. Stacks up to 4 times. (Or something like that, balance it out.) Killing a target marked as a bounty gives MF extra gold (Increases by rank and level).
R: “Bullet Time” : Much the same as her current ult, except she will fire off individual shots from both her pistols (several times, continuously) at variable angles in a cone, all of which will ricochet like “Shock & Awe” and apply Heartbreaker’s Debuff.
We lose a bunch of rather silly unrelated un-synergistic abilities, and get a much more purposeful MF. She takes on a very unique play style and in my personal opinion, one that has dangerous flare. She kind use Shock and awe to be unpredictable and cunning, but when she’s ready to claim her bounty, “Strut”, “Heartbreaker”, Bounty allow her to get in close but stay unpredictable. Bullet time is trademark MF and I didn’t want to change the feel of spraying the battlefield, I just reworked it to be less toonish and more the feeling of raining true mayhem (in the right environment the ricochets would be insanely lethal).
Varus is pretty close to a good place. Hail of arrows, just being a more sensible version of make it rain (but not complementary to his kit at all) could actually be replaced with a tether arrow. It would work more similarly to Nautilus' anchor and make his kit far more appealing. It can be used to pull him to walls, or to his enemies to more reliably land chain of corruption or proc Blight. One way or another varus needs some mobility in his kit.
I'm mostly spit-balling here, but the short and sweet is, can these guys be brought up to competitive level in season 5?
