Welp, Kog is the least picked Marksmen again

The only changes presently on the table are some monkeying with his Ult to make it slightly less useless against healthy targets and significantly worse as an execute, in particular its scaling is taking a shovel to the face. Said changes do absolutely nothing to push Kog toward the niche he supposedly fills, that of a champion designed to make high utility, low damage team compositions shine.

So how about a suggestion?

Focus Kog more heavily on his resistance shredding/damage amplification. If he were focused on amping damage, that would allow low damage/high utility teams to really shine since Kog would be utterly wrecking enemy resistance. He already has the strongest hybrid shred ability in the game aside from Trundle's Ult, so why not just go crazy with it? His long range machine gun identity already fell through.

His artillery platform identity was intentionally killed by Riot. That just leaves his resist shredding tank-buster identity. Give him a new passive focused on shredding resistance. Tweak his Q to make it more viable for spreading resist shred around. And if Riot doesn't want his Ult to work as a poke, why not give it lowish base damage and a debuff that procs additional damage when an ally hits them? That would mean follow-up is required.

Riot has been consistent about what they think Kog's identity is. And they've been just as consistent in totally missing the mark every single time they've made changes to him.

Honestly even if he was a shred marksman he'd be outclassed by all the armor pen marksman builds.

Hate to suggest it, but Kog might need a full VGU at some point.

Kog is fine if the rest of the class weren't over-loaded, even before armor pen builds rose up.

His damage can't compete with others in the way its supposed to. His lack of safety/utility makes him even less of a potential pick.

The problem is Riot's balancing, not his design. Him and Vayne used to be the same line of hypercarry, with kog being even harder of a carry. Now basic low-steroid ADCs (Ashe/Jinx) out-damage him significantly with crit builds while also providing much more utility.

Nah, he wouldn't be.

Riot is going to be reworking armor pen in the PreSeason, though they haven't told us exactly what that's going to look like yet.

Keep in mind here that the armor pen builds mostly focus on flat armor penetration with Cleaver thrown in somewhere. I'm talking about a balls to the walls focus on hybrid resistance shredding. I think I've got a solid concept for making both flat and percentile shred to work as parts of the same kit without conflicting with each other, too.

Basically, we're talking about gnawing off absurd amounts of resistance if Kog is allowed to focus a front-line unopposed. And a Tank with most of their resist stripped away (or even knocked into negative resist if they're an HP stacker) means that Kog isn't just improving his damage, he's amplifying the damage threat of his whole team.

People are use to Marksmen damage being totally selfing. I'm suggesting that Kog should move in the opposite direction. His main damage threat should be team-based rather than buffs just for him.

That's good. Maybe now when I see my adc pick him he's actually going to be a good Kog main player instead of some twerp trying to play follow the uber.

Unfortunately he's also significantly worse than every other Marksmen that isn't Kalista, and she's been dumpstered until Riot reworks her.

It sure would be nice to be able to open some dialog with the live balance team about Kog's direction going into the pre-season. The changes presently on the PBE are still an overall nerf compared to where Kog was in Season 5 (generally okay, not amazing, hardly ever picked) and the meta then had a much greater focus on late game.

I think the best way to Buff Kog is to change his passive because if Kog is playing well he doesn't die It doesn't fit with his identity.

The problem is they tried hybrid damage with Coki and that just hasn't worked at all because he can't get the Arpen items that allow a carry to cut through tanks.

The problem with machine gun Kog was he was tearing through objectives and doing stupid things like Jungle Kog. Could you have Kog able to break the attack speed cap but without the super steriod of the previous version. So you could just have his passive be that Kog can break the attack speed cap. Have a passive on his Q that increases his attack speed per rank but require Kog to buy the items to break through the cap.
