ADC's, mandatory since 2009

The role is called bot lane... other then a few brief flash in the pans Ziggs Mordekaiser Marksman archtype has dominated the role. Imagine if every jungler for 7 years straight was a tank or every sup was an enchanter type or every top was a Bruiser... That would never happen though because those other roles are balanced.

LankPants6 votes

The confusion here is the role vs class. ADC is actually more of a class than a role. That's why it's fair to say ADCs have always been manditory while other classes haven't. Saying that about the role is utter nonsense. With the exception of jungle for a very short period in S4 all of the modern roles have been manditory for a very long period of time.

Ironically you chose the two roles that actually haven't always been mandatory. Early in LoL's life time lanes were more flexible, a common lane setup especially in NA was 1/1/1, with a jungler and a roaming support. As mentioned before jungle wasn't always a thing due to the double targon's meta. The other 3 roles have been pretty consistant, it's almost always been 1 top, 1 mid and a bot lane carry, the classes in all roles have not been completely consistant, but out of the roles bot lane carry has been consistant for the longest period of time without any shake up, being the same for at least 7 seasons.

In other roles the playable classes have shifted far more. Mages, Bruisers, Tanks and Carries have all been playable top. Tanks, Assassins, Carries, Bruisers, Tank Supports, Mages and Ivern have all been playable jungle Mages, Assassins, Carries and some oddball Utility Supports have all been playable mid. Utility Supports, Tank Supports and Mages have all been playable as supports. Bot lane carry has always been pretty consistently ADCs with the only two non-ADCs ever to gain any traction being Mord and Ziggs.

No, because things like Zyra and Brand bot exist.

AirKingNeo2 votes

Zyra zones people hard. Brand isn't really a support, he's just going bot without 'supporting'.

I mean, it was a good idea at the begining because Supps were ward dispensers.

But you can have a good idea and jinx it or go too far, as they did imo.

AirKingNeo8 votes

removes 75 cost wards that they need to buy

reduces pink wards by 50

increases gold gen

reduces item costs

makes sightstone free, saving 400 gold

Ahh, good old increase gold 5 times in 3 years.

The best SoloQ player in the world says that tank supps are the strongest champs in the game but it doesn't matter because it doesn't fit circlejerk narrative.

Anu3isII2 votes

Tank Supports' strength is extremely based on the meta. There are seasons where they dominate, and seasons where most of them aren't that great of a pick. I would argue that only Braum and Kench are generally good, but they still have their ups and downs.

Flawless Fetus5 votes

Support is obviously one of the two strongest. The anti-adc circlejerk is op, though. Lol.

Nah then the sups are just ward bots that don't get to play and the top/jungler tanks and mid lane control mages peel for the attack movers and they still dominate team fight anyway.

AirKingNeo3 votes

"ward bots"

removes vision wards, lowers pinks by 50 gold, makes sightstone free

gives them new, stronger items that are still cheap as fuck despite the gold compensation

buffs kits and makes new/reworked supports overloaded

Yeah, they're totally ward bots who totally don't make ADCs immortal.

LMAO mid has no votes so far and support is leading in votes..........but yet a lot of games i notice people are playing mids as support.

Brand, Lux, Zoe, Annie, Veigar, Vel Koz...get back to your lanes REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

We know which role is the strongest.

Support is the most powerful role throughout a game. Their gold to impact ratio is so skewed towards them that you can effect skirmishes and teamfights even when you have 0 gold simply because a ton of support abilities scale infinitely based on your opponents gold, and not yours. That's how broken this role is.

ADCs are the most powerful late game, they're the most powerful mid game with a fed support. Highest sustained damage by far, cheap itemization also makes them incredibly powerful at 2 items with weaknesses that can be made up for by a e girl health mule support.

Jungle is the most impactful role early game. Isn't even debatable, you hit lvl 2 before laners and 3 before laners with infinite mana and a perma slow that applies true damage. If you win the jungle you control all vision and the ability for enemy solo laners to play aggressive (as in they can't).

Mid is the new support role in the game, being the one who decides jungle invades and bot lane skirmishes. And riot wonders why sitting back and wave clearing is the default for a lot of mid laners. It's because you have to establish priority so you can roam with your jungle/to bot, else the entire game is just a coin flip because nobody has the freakin damage to pierce through a Janna shield + ult alone.

Top lane is worthless unless you pick some hypercarry who can just win lane then melt the paper thin towers split pushing. Your entire lane can be literally decided by the 3 min jungle gank and because of sheer proximity to the most influential lane, bot, you're the least impactful role.

Rexxiee7 votes

Support then jungle then everyone else.

Adcs are impactful but they have no agency early-mid game, they are too reliant on their team.

Raiyza7 votes

Jungler.

Level two after taking red buff threatening a level 2 gank. Nothing is stronger than that.

Ryrynounet10 votes

According to me a good ward is more frightening to us jungler even more if you somehow took the information about what buff i began with

T4underbolt1 votes

according to me twitch, shaco do not give a flying fk about wards.

Riiiiiiight because a level 2 Twitch gank is completely unexpected.

You gotta define your metrics, man. Are we talking about 1v1 strength (Top), ability to carry games 1v9 (Mid), how easy they are to climb with (Supp), or how much they impact other roles for good or for worse (Jung), or raw killing power (ADC)?

The only metric that's really fair to all roles is "how fun are they", because that takes into account all the other forms of strength that players may be drawn towards. But I doubt that's how most people are voting.

Or if you don't like conflating fun and strength, I'd argue that Mid is the strongest because it has a several different strengths: 1v1 strength, relatively low reliance on other teammates, high impact on other roles (being able to roam), and decently high damage for whatever you're objective is. (ADC has the highest damage and perhaps are easier to climb with, but they are way more reliant on other teammates and they can't really roam. So they get second place, IMO.)

And yet, I voted for Support, because I figured that climbing easily is probably the most important form of strength, at least in a Solo Queue mind-set. And they can have decent impact across the map via wards and occasionally roaming, AND their power isn't dependent on farm/kills/items as much.

So yeah like, which role is strongest depends on your goals. If you want to know which role is the best to put Doublelift, it'd probably be Mid (if we ignore the year he would need to learn a new role, and we ignore his personal preferences). At the highest skill level, Mid lane has always been the biggest carry position. If you just want to know how to get from Silver II to Gold V, Support is probably the best option. And if you just want to have the most fun, then it's up to you what you find the most reliably impactful/fun overall.

InfiniX6 votes

Strongest influence in the game? Jungle because you can influence 3 lanes without detriment to your own and you basically decide whether or not your team gets objectives.

Strongest carry potential? Support because you basically decide bot lane 80% of the time without outside interference, and you can become a second jungler if your lane is snowballed enough. You also have vision control AND if you peel well in teamfights you can single handedly win the fight. But this is only if you played well in lane initially, so support can potentially be more influential than the jungler, but the jungler innately has more influence from the start of the game.

Kaìju5 votes

Mage supports do so much damage that marksmen are forced to take Footwork or you die in lane, as well as often doing more damage than the ADC if you play someone like Brand or Zyra. Everyone wants to say ADC is busted but mage supports can very easily do more damage than the carry, but why would we mention that.

"Damage dealt doesn't matter" then why cry about ADCs doing damage if they don't even do the most?

Not to mention support wins lane phase.

Playing against brand or zyra is aids. With manaband, I just legit wanna kill myself most of the time.

BremerdanGorst5 votes

Potentially jungle, but usually ADC (assuming rest of your team, particularly the support, is baseline competent for your elo).

Grokmir4 votes

It really depends on what part of the game we're talking about.

Jungle is great early and decent later.

Support is great early and good later (just can't solo carry later unless you play brand or something)

Adc is good mid (great when ahead) and godlike late.

Mid varies a lot, but generally is good throughout.

Top is ok early and great mid.

So I would say either support or jungle since the early game is so important.

And I'd probably put support in first considering they are really good early but still scale later with thier utility.

Jungle and mid, since they are the ones with the highest roaming potential. If you have a good jungle or mid, they'll win every lane, not just theirs.

The nexus.

SpecterVonBaren4 votes

Influence or stats? If we're talking influence then the jungler, if we're talking stats then the ADC.

HarrowR2 votes

what do you mean by stats?

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

An ADC late game is the most powerful because of the amount of damage they can output, their stats are extremely powerful due to how attack speed+crit+AD scale. A jungler is the most powerful by the amount of influence they can put on every lane on the map though.

HarrowR1 votes

Well i beg to differ, compare an adc to any fighter like lets say Fiora or Xin,you will see that stat wise adc is inferior even in late game or at least kinda equal.

Fighters,Assassins- More HP, AD, Mr, Armor, CDR, HP/Mana regen and Lethality and usually an Equal amount of Lifesteal ADCs- More AS and Crit (not even this is always the case since Yas has 100% crit)

The only thing adcs have going for them is their range, which if used properly makes up for the tankiness of other classes, but in a lot of scenarios before the late game those stats do matter a lot,i cant tell you the amount of times i've been fed like 10/2 with an ADC and i lose a 1v1 to Sejuani thats 1/4 and has 1.5 items, just cause she has something like 700 hp more than me,lots of cc and lots of base ability damage, that deals half my hp even though she has no ad or ap,and just finishes me off with autos.

Don't get me wrong, ADC is strong, comes online a bit to soon currently, and has huge impact on a teams win %s once they do turn on, yet on the whole its a pretty restricted role. Traditionally we see like 2-5 champions in rotation for the role enjoing FOTM treatment and many of the ADC options falls out of style with any significant item changes. Simply put when only a small majority of that role enjoy viability I just cant endorse it as the most powerful.

So my vote goes to support and my logic is as follows.

  1. Class diversity, The class has a bit of everything and your able to pick and choose what's needed for a team comp or counter.
  2. Gold independence, By far the least gold reliant role yet able to remain relevant to a matches outcome.
  3. Compensation for a bad ADC, Many supports enjoy a stronger Early game then adcs, this allows them to influence lane phase more then the adc.
  4. Vision, No seriously vision is huge in lol, do not undervalue vision score and control.
  5. Rewarded for dedication , Bunch of derps still refuse to learn at least 1 champion in all roles, support is a common auto fill. You now have a advantage for knowing your shit and the enemy team is often behind on 40% of their players

The 2nd role I feel is probably Jungle or mid depending on the meta, when farm jungles are a thing Mid roam becomes a deciding factor, otherwise jungles can decide lanes with well done ganks.

THE RlVER KlNG3 votes

i laugh when people think that adc is stronger than support

adcs are busted sure and so are their itemization but supports are many many many times more influential and powerful

Bârd2 votes

It's easy to say "Oh ADC's are strongest!!!!!" In terms of stats, yeah. They're carries, that's their job.

Jungle, mid, and top all have carries too.

Botlane may be saturated with carries, but those are hardly the only ones.

Irelia, Fiora, GP, and Jayce in top. Azir, Vlad, Cass, and Ryze in mid. Shyv, Yi, Graves, and Jax in jungle.

Any of these champions has the potential to carry just as hard as an ADC.

Anyone that voted Jungle is actually legally retarded. If it was most influential maybe you could make a case... but junglers are weak after level 4. What about not scaling well and getting less gold then ADC and the 2 solo laners says powerful?

Junglers a lot of time can determine which bot lane wins by simply camping their lane. And with you marking ADC with S+, a jungler who camps bot to win lane will always win game yes?

Mid S-? WutFace

Mid lane would only be S- if the player is duoing with a jungler that camps his lane. Mid lane is basically the same as top, but can roam easier. Id put it at a B or B+ at most.

It honestly doesn't matter if you camp bot all that much. Getting bot ahead doesn't magically make them better players once the lane phase is over the better ADC is gonna outfarm, outplay in teamfights and macro movement. It gives you a window where other lane/roles can carry and end before the better ADC gets farmed up enough to become a 1 v 9 god. But it doesn't ensure you win.

Mid is basically jungle with more farm, better champ selection and actual relevance in teamfights. Mid can influence other lanes the same as jungle, this is the reason AurelionSol such a high win rate. But unlike Jungle mid has options for champs that can carry teamfights. Although mid has less influence over neutral objectives and early vision control.
