How to play against Edge of Night?

So I've returned after a hiatus during s5 and noticed there's this new item called edge of night. Whenever an assassin takes it with yonumuu, I find it impossible to counterplay against. Compared to bashee, this item feels overtuned, at least bashee has a 40s cd while unable to refresh during combat. Even when I'm grouped, someone like Rengar or Zed would just pop up, hop in 100-0, hop out alive thanks to the free on demand spell shield then proceed to do the same thing 30 seconds later. This item would be more balanced if it was only allowed a 3 second timer window to be honest.

The shield is not 'on-demand.' It has a 1.5 second channel time. Taking any action - including auto attacking, popping another item, using a summoner, or dropping a trinket - cancels Edge of Night's channel.

It's intended to be used before combat. Assassins activate Edge of Night in the shadows for some safety when they ambush. if this happens to you, pop the spell shield with a basic ability before using your CC, just like with Banshees.

If the Assassin is getting away that easy, it's because of something else.

I can't think of anything that this guy didn't say so why not post it again!

I mean it's pretty much always up when you need it because of the low cd.

An Assassin can't use it twice in one fight, no matter what the CD is. And they can only use it once if they use it before the fight even starts.

It's up about as often as Banshee's is up. In exchange for a slightly shorter CD, it has the channel time attached and the requirement to use it on demand.

and you know, damage.

All the perks of a defensive item without sacrificing damage.

I wouldn't say 'all the perks.'

It has the spellshield and MR, and that's it. No HP. No HP regen. Certainly no armor, and no defensive absorb shield like Maw.

I'm not denying that it's a great item, it is a great item. But it's fine in it's current state, like a bunch of other great items out there.

I mean.. you can poke it with some range so it disappears but don't worry it'll be in 20 seconds again.

Any half decent assassin just backs off if you break it before they start their combo, and come back 20 seconds later.
