Why stick out a clear losing battle?

It never fails. The team is down 10-30. One or more of the enemy team is sickeningly fed. Time to surrender, right?

Wrong. It always seems like there are 2 holdouts at 20.

In my mind, it is clear that this team, or members of this team, need more experience in the laning phase. Whether it was at champion select or even before, with masteries and runes, or during laning, someone on the team just didn't get it, and gave a strong lead to the enemy team.

So why fight it? Why not surrender and start a new game, and try again to lane well, learning from your mistakes? If it's obvious the game is going to end in a loss, why bother sticking it out and getting mopped up? There is nothing left to be learned. If you want more team fight experience, play an ARAM :P

because in many of those games you will still win, seeing as laneing phase is drastically different than objective/teamfighting phase. If the only part of the game that matters was early game as you describe it, late game champs wouldn't exist

Well your right, but looking at his match history perhaps he is talking about ARAM?

Then why did he mention laning phases, and why would he care this much about wins/loss if it was ARAM?

But if you're so far behind, teamfighting and objectives won't matter much as a fed champ will run your team over with ease.

not necessarily, given champion power spikes and scaling it is possible (and probable if they are an very early-game orientated team) for you to be losing incredibly hard and have the late game no matter what. Even in terms of kits, some teamfighting teams counter other teamfighting teams, it's about the matchup more than the score really.

Late game has almost nothing to do with early game in many losing games

Particularly in this season of super long death timers, if you can hold out long enough a single teamfight can determine the game regardless of how the rest of the match went.

Good answer, but disturbing.
