Sooo is Magic Resist going to be buffed even a little with these ap item changes?

Fadedpf··42 votes·2,722 views

I didn't understand the need for the AP item changes, but I am definitely okay with it. What I am not okay with is MR itemization even now. Mercs + Banshee's or Spirit Visage is basically the tanks only mr items. Which barely cracks around 130 ish if I remember right. I am really going to fear these dot and sustain champs so if these changes happen MR needs buffs.

We need Athene's buffs

Remlap12235 votes

Athene's does need buffs.

Better nerf Irelia.

Oh wait, we should probably give chalice a buff to help out mana champions.

Better nerf Sona.

Add Odyn's to Rift.

Put Runic Bulwark back in the game.

Problem solved!

You kind of forgot Aegis and the thingy that builds out of it... By far the best MR item rush you can do on a tank to make your team win mid-game fights.

And having mercs, locket and maybe spirit visage/banshee if you're really struggling with aoe magic damage lategame is more than enough. No matter what happens, unless their team has 3 heavy magic damage dealers, HP and armor with a moderate amount of magic resist is still optimal. That burst gated by CD will not kill you before you can do your job while a lategame adc will definitely bash your face in if you don't have copious amounts of HP and armor to offset it for a bit. And if something like a leblanc is using her entire rotation to chunk you for more than 50% and your team still loses the fight then there's either something wrong with your decision making or the teamwork. Or both.

Ya'll are forgetting the most important anti-AP item...item 3190. I am confident that I have won gaves I would not have otherwise because I built this item for my team. And I rarely see people buying it at my ELO (Silver). BUY IT.

Yorukin3 votes

The main deal with MR is that magic damage is generally very bursty and gated by cooldowns. As long as you survive the spell rotation (which 130 MR is generally enough to do on a tanky champ), then the guy who just unloaded on you will suddenly find themselves in a very bad spot.

...Unfortunately, there is nothing in the game that helps deal with more constant magic damage, which is a big reason why champions like Cassiopeia and Fizz can be problematic.

Solidair33 votes

item 3190 item 3060 item 3512 are all viable tanky options.

Magic resist is supposed to be a little tough to come by, that's just how Riot wants it.

BluePolarizer2 votes

if you are an AP tank against heavy AP go Abyssal. if you are AD tank against heavy AP go Maw.

Fadedpf5 votes

those are great if your champs are bruiser types but hp/cooldown is more valuable on tanks

Partholonian5 votes

Then build one of those bruiser items AND SV or BV.

And if the enemy team is AP heavy as a whole, someone on your team should be building Aegis, why not you?

Z Statistic3 votes

usually it's the support.

hgjkdlsaf jeldvb2 votes

There's plenty of MR options

For carries: item 3139

For APs: item 3001 item 3174 item 3060

For bruisers: item 3155 /item 3156

For supports:item 3105 /item 3060/ item 3190 item 3222

For fuckin anyoneitem 3102 item 3111 item 3026 (seriously, adcs build banshee. It's not just for tanks.)

item 3512 for your backdooring and splitpushing needs

item 3091 is niche, but good on a few champs who like the magic damage auto attacks.

item 3065 is good on anyone with healing on their kit, not just tanks.

MR/lvl runes are great against low magic damage or passive ap laners.

item 3211 fucks over dot based mages

item 3083 special mention, as health really fucks over rotation based champs, which most APs are.

You have plenty of options available. Understand that surviving mages requires both health and MR. You have options that give both. They aren't tank specific. The numbers on MR are lower because most magic dealers aren't sustain damage types, and not being able to 100-0 targets, or deal significant AoE in teamfights is crippling.

IcyPepper1 votes

item 3105 is good on tanks too (especially if your support is Soraka). Then built into item 3190. Especially good on tanks that use shields.

I'm surprised more people don't buy spirit visage. It boosts your lifesteal, gives you MR and health, it should be every adc's option (but not only choice) against thornmail. Looking at you, Vayne.

Champion Skin1 votes

It is good even if your support has it Like if you are together you get 60 MR 150% base hp regen and 200 hp from Aegis And if you aren't together while yes it will only give 40 MR and 75% base hp regen and 200 hp you now give MR to allies who might not otherwise have been getting the effect of the Aura

IcyPepper1 votes

You mean it's fine to have two of them?

I mean, two lockets isn't bad for teamfights with dat shield. I'm just saying that either role can take it. It's really good for the support if you're laning against an AP support, like Sona or Lux tho.

Champion Skin1 votes

It is decent against Corki as well.. especially if the support or ADC are bad at doing his rockets and Q

If two allies have locket and they are together it makes locket one of the items with the most MR 60 (20 from own aura, 20 from allied aura, 20 from the item)

Abyssphere1 votes

Banshee's and Visage give massive amounts of health, which is very effective against magic damage. The reason MR values are so low is because health is also a very strong stat against AP. There's no need to get 300 MR or anything ridiculous like you want for armor because a) it's a bad idea, you are completely exposing yourself to the ADC if you tunnel vision on magic resist and b) combined with high health, massive MR is complete overkill. A mage's full burst combo will do about a fifth of your health with the same stats you can achieve for armor and unlike an ADC they can't just keep autoing you all day.

MR is fine, I don't understand how people can complain about itemising against mages when health is readily available in large amounts on the two primary MR items. If you're fighting a mage you only need enough to survive the burst and health will get you through that.

RogueWill6 votes

Then you get a late game Cassiopeia which is basically an adc that deals magic that doesn't need a rotation. or a Vladimir that outsustain you forever

The Loveless1 votes

Why don't we have a version of thornmail that reflect spell damage??

qetzel5 votes

Probably because it would affect burst mages too much. Champions like Veigar would be able to do nothing.

The Loveless1 votes

He'd still kill you but at least he feels some of your pain.

RogueWill6 votes

maybe something like item 3071 but in reverse. Every consecutive spell on you raises your mr. That way for a brust damage the extra armor would be almost nothing but for the constant magic dealers would be significally.

But you can't suggest massively buffing magic resist itemisation just because there are a very select group of mages with sustained damage. You'd make Cass, Azir and Vlad easier to itemise against but you'd completely destroy everyone else.

Unfortunately being tank-busters is gonna have to remain a strength people like Cass have, you can't balance MR for two or three champions without murdering the rest.

Champion Skin1 votes

Actually you can with the suggestion above of an item which gives you more mr the more times you are hit by enemy spells So well if the enemy uses burst on you... then it won't be affected all that much however if they continuously spam spells at you (Like Cassiopeia and Vlad) then it will be rather effective (Not my idea... though I think it is a very good idea.. the idea is from RogueWill's comment above)

The need for the changes started when they want to rework Abyssal Scepter. They stopped, realizing that AP itemization is flawed as-is and that they can't just change one thing.

That said, I imagine MR is coming back. (I still wish I could buy an MR item at start)

DanofDemacia1 votes

If you buff mr ur going to kill champions like lux.

alfavhunter1 votes

Honestly they just need to buff the late game MR runes and masteries

Example

Make the scaling MR bonus mastery better so taking this mastery means your more tanks to ap as you build more you get more so let's say it's a 10% bonus, 100 MR becomes 110mr. Make it a little higher like 15% at most and it makes it better but not outrageously so

The tunes for MR/lvl could also use a buff

But in game items are relatively fine, I can typically get to 200 MR on multiple tanks by building hp MR items and Arm MR items

TomA3X1 votes

Tanks don't need any buffs thanks

Gorgannan1 votes

I don't want to be that guy, but HP helps significantly more against AP than it does Vs. AD.

Spirit Visage gives you nothing against an adc. Randuin's helps against mages.

willcarry4gold1 votes

Theres the mastery that converts some armor into MR, but no other buffs that I know of.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

They are slated for changes, I think. They've said, in concert with the proposed changes to abyssal, that they want to rework MR. I don't know if it will be to the same extent that the AP items are getting changes, though.

Beddlam1 votes

I think you misunderstand the changes. This isn't a straight-up AP buff, and champs that build to max AP will not really see a change, as the high-end AP items have been nerfed. Rather, it is a change to move all the AP items closer to each other in relative power to give AP champs more diverse options.

Hinagiku331 votes

item 3105

This works on tanks too ya' know...and it gives MR to the whole team because you just know at least 2 people on your team while refuse to build any form of defense...

item 3190 is actually pretty awesome in team fights.

Champion Skin1 votes

And hey if two people on your team builds it (teamwork OP) Then item 3105 will give 60 MR and 150% base regen and 200 hp (the Aura can stack once for the ones who have the item) And item 3190 will give the same just with 400 hp and 10% CDR and the active effect

Cindikle1 votes

AP items mostly just went through a QoL/utility update more than a damage update. I don't see a need for MR to get a buff. This isn't like the ADC buff last season.

Although some champions are probably going to need some tweaking(looking at you Vlad). AP in general will be fine.

Raid Boss Morde1 votes

You actually have the same amount of AP as live with most full builds. I've already tested it out with a few champs.

Champion Skin1 votes

The biggest difference seems to be with scaling builds RoA + AA And with Rylais and Liandries which are items most burst mages and such don't build

Champion Skin1 votes

RIP Bulwark (and the bug that made Aegis of the legion stack with Bulwark.. I heard about something like that at least)
