MinnitMann seems to really enjoy the changes, and he's a diamond GP main. He's been spending most of his time practicing this new GP, as have a lot of his mains.
I mean, let's face it, the passive got buffed quite a bit and it now works on towers. Q is largely the same, but it rewards you even more by using it to last hit by improving your ult. Your ult actually has quite a long CD now, but it can be customized to suit your needs. (Personally, I think the upgrades should be cheaper than they are right now) W is largely the same except it scales better the more you're injured.
The only point of contention would be the new E. My personal view is that it's not perfect; but it's a hell of a lot better than the old one. The old one was so damn boring and uninteractive. It had no counterplay for your opponents, and it was difficult to balance because it was an aura. The new E is a lot more versatile, interactive, and able to be counterplayed. (I would say there's too much counterplay, since barrels grant ten gold) I think the mechanics are complex, but not overly difficult. I do wish the barrel slow was more pronounced at early levels, since maxing Q first is the most important thing now. I do enjoy being able to use the barrels as a free passive reset to stomp down towers though. Most importantly, GP now has wave clear without having to buy
or
or
first, and that's HUGE. His playstyle is almost like a
now, where he can off splitpushing the other side of the map and when a teamfight breaks out he can help right away. The difference is that Shen actually has to stop pushing and join the fight, GP can keep right on pushing.
Alternatively, the new passive and the passive reset on his barrels allow for more bruiser GP builds. So he can build tanky, but still do damage as long as he keep popping barrels (whether they hit an enemy or not). If you do hit an enemy with a barrel, whether by hiding one in a bush or placing one near you then throwing out a quick chain to detonate, the 60% armor pen can add significant damage to even the tankiest GP.
