Why Were Shaco's Boxes Made the Way They Are?

Weathered··5 votes·539 views

Why don't they prioritize champions correctly or consistently? Why don't they have the three health sections like wards or Zyra's plants? Why don't they always fear when they should (this depends on number of boxes stacked on one another and other buggy stuff)?

Also on a side note, I've found that Shaco's Q (similarly to Ezreal's blink) has a small channel time and then a blink cast regardless, so it is possible to Q even when rooted or hit with a skill shot like Blitz's Q. If timed right, you can entirely negate a Blitz grab by having him grab you on the short channel time before your Q, and you will then Q away and elongate his arm, but not be pulled back. For roots you will blink, stealthed, but rooted while stealthed as if it had hit you. Is this intentional?

Also while I'm here, can someone give me the exact timing of his ultimate? ie --> cast/channel time, invulnerability time, remaining time of cast time where you cant move yet (in secs).

If they would take '3' to destroy it would be overpowered. All i ask is for them not to have 150 hp at all ranks or have some sort of aoe damage reduction.

Shaco's boxes target whatever the fuck is closer to them, however, if a minion procs it, the box won't attack anything else than the minion until it's dead (doesn't work like that with champions) It's like that, it's been like that FOR YEARS and they never bothered to even give ANY statement about that issue, yeah riot doesn'T give a fuck about Shaco issues, that's what i've learned in the past few months.

As for his ultimate, it's already as buggy as it can be when you ult, some abilities hit you while you're untargettable, some don't, don't bother.

i always thought the fear should be like udyr stun, if you're feared once it should put a timer on your so you cant get feared by a box again for next 5-6 seconds or so.

I didn't mean this :P making a timer would completely ruin all of AP shaco.

not really then you could make it so boxes can not die instantly a bit like illaoi tentacles, zyra plants, heimer turrets.

The premise of AP Shaco is to chain fears between boxes long enough for your damage to turn the tides of trades or all ins, so if only one fear is allowed on a timer, they can be feared and walk away from the other boxes. The multiple fears are what makes him viable in top.

Probably because Shaco is an old champion. Wards also use to not have three health sections, I think that was changed back around Preseason 3 (or maybe sometime later in season 3).

Boxes will prioritize the nearest enemy champion that has damaged Shaco or that Shaco has damaged, preferring to attack that champion whenever it is in range, even if they have moved too far away before walking back into range. So basically if you want boxes to prioritize a champion, you just have to attack it yourself first. I assume this is also how Zyra plants work, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

As for the fear, I've never encountered a situation where a box (or group of boxes) did not fear an enemy that came into range. Perhaps the issue was that you placed your boxes TOO close to each other. If an enemy walks into multiple boxes at the same time, they will only be feared for the duration of 1 box. The fear duration does not increase per box. This is why, when you're playing AP Shaco, it's important to position your boxes in such a way as to allow the enemy champion to walk into one, and the fear from that box causes them to run into a second, and the fear from that box causes them to run into a third, etc.

I'd say the blink effect is WAI. Arcane Shift (Ezreal's E) and Shaco's Q cannot have their cast times interrupted by anything other than the respective champion's own death. They will still suffer any cc applied to them at the start of the cast time after the casting ends, duration permitting.

The exact cast time of Shaco's ult is 0.35 seconds; the exact duration for which you are invulnerable after its initial cast time is 0.5 seconds. As far as I know Shaco does not suffer an inability to move once his invulnerability is completed; it's all a matter of how fast you can react after Shaco returns. I do know that, if you're fast enough, you can Q immediately upon "returning" with his ult so that the only Shaco to appear would be your clone. Thus, the cc time must be extremely short, if it exists at all.

Thanks, and I know that doubled up boxes would only fear for the duration of one if they are exactly on top of eachother.

It has only happened to me once or twice, but re watching some pinkward videos showed that (one specifically was when a malphite flashed into range and ulted) champions would be feared sometimes but not other times with the same setup (another time the malphite was already in range and ulted, but was stopped mid range by boxes in same place as before).

They also don't proc Tribute. Shame on Riot for not addressing that.

It's simple: Shaco is very old champ. That's why.

Why wasn't that fixed?

It's simple: Spaghetti code. By fixing JitB they could have erased Baron from the map. Seriously.

Why spaghetti code?

It's simple: Riot started small. And it was alot cheaper to work in small portions. Now they have money but don't wanna spend it properly.

Why they don't wanna fix spaghetti code?

It's complicated: Greed, LCS, New Lee skins.. The usual.
