The (no) joy of getting into diamond

So, an achievement everyone wants to get: GET INTO DIAMOND! Yay!

Yet when you get there and you find out you can't play with your plat 3/4/5 friends anymore, it doesn't really feel rewarding. While I get the "balance" stuff about it, I honestly don't think restricting high elo players is a good way to go. You're basically lessening the joy of climbing into high divisions.
