Playing without Flash could become viable this season?

The theory behind this is: at the moment, the new Nimbus Cloak makes you go very very fast. I would argue that the mobility it gives could compete with Flash and that's because it's tied to summoner spell use.

Flash is a powerful spell because of the versatility it provides, that's true. However, taking Heal + Nimbus means you get a 25% movespeed boost as well as another 30% speed AND a heal. Could it be possible that the fact that Flash doesn't provide combat benefits means something else + Nimbus could be used in its place?

Imagine laning against Renekton. I would argue having Exhaust would be much more helpful to fight him than Flash. It's only better if the Exhaust gives you a speed boost as well.

In short, my theory is that it's easier to play without Flash this preseason.

Flash offers versatility. It is very good at avoiding spells like Malphite ult, jumping over walls, and being more mobile as a mage.

However, Nimbus Cloak now offers mobility which is tied to Summoner Spell usage. Consider trading the aforementioned versatility for stronger proficiency in offense, defense, or other forms of mobility. Combat spells support laning, and are also on a lower cooldown.

Flash doesn't provide combat benefits

Flash is like THE combat spell, what do you mean? It's everyone's free outplay button.

Flash to dodge the Lux Q as you're running her down as a melee champion. Flash to re-position for a good feather recall on Xayah. Flash to get a clean combo on Lee Sin. Flash to get a surprise hook on Thresh or Blitzcrank. Flash to catch up for that last bit of damage on an enemy that would've otherwise gotten away. Flash to get to safety after a fight goes bad.

Movement speed is good, but it isn't at all the same as a directional blink. Flash is universally a must-have summoner spell on almost every champion for a reason. There are very few exceptions.

It's always been a viable strategy to take other spells over Flash, but Flash is fundamentally overpowered and that's why most champions take it.

Urban listed some good reasons, but there's also stuff where you flash during a spell to change the spell's location (Tryndamere e-flash, Gragas e-flash, Camille e-flash, etc.)

Also you get the nimbus cloak movespeed FROM flashing too, which makes it even more stupid for stick potential. Sure, you're not technically wrong, but flash is still going to be crazy on 90% of champions. Shaco will still go smite/ignite or TP/ignite, but Tryndamere should still take flash in all situations for example.

If you take anything other than Flash vs Renekton, you're playing into a Renekton that has Flash advantage.........permanently.
