Why is Karthus not used more often?

TurquoiseYoshi··1 votes·899 views

Seriously. He has literal full-map pressure with his ult, which can pick off escaping targets in lane like a megatroll. He has a wide ranged slow, and a nice waveclear Q. Both of those are good in teamfights. His E... I never use it. But he seems like a really good character, so why is he never used?

his ult has a huge cooldown i think. Also very farm reliant. Other then that not sure

I think the ult has equal cooldown to TwistedFate's. He still gets high use despite his ult being most of his power. Also, when the ult is used correctly, it will get a kill and get gold (AKA extra farm kinda) for using it.

Nope. Karthus 200 / 180 / 160 TwistedFate 180 / 150 / 120. And then there's the fact that TF benefits a lot more from CDR then Karthus does.

Frick, I was remembering Karthus's ult when I had CDR on my masteries. Sorry about that.

It's fine

A lot of people can't manage low mobility very well no matter how strong they are.

Nobody understands that his level 3 all-in is op and that he's a lane bully

Soraka Bard Fizz Shaco Kalista Kayle MasterYi Vladimir Zed Ekko Sivir Tryndamere Alistar item 3157 item 3156 item 3102 summoner 7 summoner 21 All ways to negate his extremely predictable ult which is on a 3 minute cooldown. Not to mention all the champions with heal or shield abilities.

Also he's squishy, has no hard cc, and his q's are very difficult to land consistently.

Definitely true, but some people don't understand what's going on when they're being smited by whatever Requiem is, and don't use those because they just don't think of them in time.

He has really big mana problems and a playstyle divergent from most other midlane mages (farm till you deal all the damage then suicide bomb the enemy team). He's not bad, he just doesn't really have a place in the meta right now.

Or ever, if you ask me, but I'm biased because I hate playing against him. Stupid global ults.

if anything karthus is great in the tank mete because he deals sustained damage/ and can reduce tanks magic resist with w

His E is the greatest thing ever for the tank meta.

Build him with all the "tank" AP items, get into the middle of that teamfight and fuck shit up. :D

He just does not bring much to the game. Sure he has a nice ult, but it does not do a lot til late game, and that's if your team can get to late game.

I think the main thing about him people don't like is that he has to die to get his kills. Most people want to live getting there kills. Not fun dieing over and over. And people complain if you don't use your ult when they tell you to.

Mana dependent and weak early game. Plus any good assassin can own him if he positions poorly plus he is very immobile.

There was a point in time when Karthus was a fairly strong pick if you could get him up and running in a reasonable amount of time.

However, this was back when most of the opposing team tended to be squishy. The meta has long since changed from that point in time. Karthus does not do well vs tanks, and tanks are here in today's meta.

Perhaps, sometime in the future, the champs who think Karthus tickles will fade out of favor, squishy junglers, ranged supports, and Akali tops will return. Then Karthus will rise again.

Alright, thanks. I don't really play Karthus enough to know his big strengths and weaknesses, but he seemed like a champion on the good/balanced side of the scale.

umbraˉ1 votes

Because he probably has the worst early game in league

And gets his anus annihilated by any assassin

Shroom Junkie1 votes

I sometimes play Karthus. Though he seems a bit meh, seeing as he's mainly focusing one target in a fight and he isn't very useful until late game.

Xavkul1 votes

His passive only works if you are dead, so you have to be careful of not feeding too much. He is a high risk, high reward champ. No real escape like some mages have (ex;Ahri ,Leblanc )

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

His W can be used as escape if you really need it.

Xavkul1 votes

ehh, it slows them, but its not reliably such as Leblanc dash.

KirbyCake1 votes

q is not reliable damage anymore in this meta, too much mobility even if you slow them. e is close ranged. he gets shut down too easily with items like locket and BV.

honestly immobile mages that deal massive damage just aren't good in this meta, especially if they use skill shots.

He's very easy to gank and even dive under turret. Ult cooldown is extremely long early on. Very mana dependant without many items. Most aggressive laners / assassins can just wreck him.

That said, he's still a complete monster lategame if you can get there.
