Very Meta but True Autofill post, Remove it Rito

When i first saw and heard autofill's implementation i didn't like it, but did think it would be a big deal either. I was wrong, for something meant to shorten queue times it sure makes queue longer and more hellish. When i queue Mid and Top I'm queuing up specifically to play only those roles, not at all support, and simply i won't play a 30 minute game as adc or supp when i'm trying to level up my Kennen and maybe play some of my main man Zed. I refuse to spend my time that way, and from all the dodges in games where i got my role, i'd say most people agree. Riot, this implementation hurts me, i rarely dodged games pre- auto-fill. Now i dodge at-least 3 times a day, and i work and go to school, so i only play like 5-8 games per day anyway. If i want to support i will queue for it, and i do now and then, after all i enjoy a good game of proto-belt blitzcrank. Auto-fill is a terrible attempt at fixing queue times. It's very meta to make a post about this, but that's for a reason: People hate it, soo many people have said they'd rather wait and get their role than waste 30 minutes playing a bad role, even almost every streamer or you-tuber has expressed their disdain at this painful system, and i agree, we need this addressed Riot, I will dodge as many times as it takes me to get one of my 2 primary roles out of spite for the system at the very least, and from the amount of dodges I've seen lately in games i got into, so will many others, and the queues ironically feel longer. I've dodged twice today and been dodged on 11 times and counting

Very true. I'm not going to waste 30+ minutes of my time on a game in a position I hate when I can just dodge and wait 5-10 more mins to get the role I do want to play.

You're not supposed to like it. But it's for the good of the game.

The biggest issue is that most people have no idea what it actually does on the game, and instead it's used as a justification for when your bot lane gets crushed.

It's not only about queue times, it's primarily about balancing the population.

Before Autofill, picking Support as secondary basically guaranteed that you would end up as Support. As a result, people who would traditionally play support as their second role completely stopped queuing for it. Fastforward a full season, we have a support shortage, 8+ min queues sub-Platinum and despite adjustments, odds of getting Support as secondary is still 70%+.

At the cost of having people getting autofilled to Support once every 10-15 games we get:

  • Significantly lower queue times for non-supports.
  • Slightly longer queue times for Support players
  • Significantly higher chance of getting your Primary position when selecting Support as your secondary.

What does this mean? It's safe to pick Support as secondary again. And once people do so, the odds that non-support will get Autofilled will also go down.

Also interesting that the system may be slightly overeager and causing some Support Primary players to get their Secondary. It'll be addressed in a future matchmaking update.

Remember, the more people are playing support willingly, the less people will get Autofilled. Getting back the people who stopped picking support secondary due to a flawed position selection system is a step in that direction.

I'll be trying that out. Thank you.
