Seriously, could Yasuos Windwall please not block freaking ULTIMATES?

Raoul··15 votes·1,654 views

I hate this champion as it is, but as a Nami main, that this freaking overloades piece of s**t just has to place his freaking Windwall anyway near the teamfight and totaly disables my whole Ultimate is just insane!

At least make it so that only the front side blocks and not the sides or ANYTHING to fix this broken ass ability!

one pixel of my wave touches the windwall and ITS GONE!

Maybe they don't have to change the Wind Wall. Maybe they can change Nami ult so it keeps going even if half of it was blocked off? The coding for blocking ultimates and turning that off would be a hellish nightmare. It was set to block projectiles of any kind, but making it swap over to projectiles that aren't ultimates would take ages and many patches to get done.

MacDeath4 votes

Water flows around obstacles. The wave is wider than the barrier --> barrier should simply be ignored.

(That would actually even mean that Anivia's full leveled E would have more of an effect but oh well, Shen dashes through solid walls, too...)

Faded Lich2 votes

Great logic, now tell me how you plan to code that into the game? Please explain your suggestion in a way that makes sense for the game. I wait with baited breath.

Oshlet3 votes

I guess you could code nami's ult as several projectiles, so if only a corner of nami's ult hits it, the majority keeps going. Similarly, if it hits a small windwall directly, the outer sections may keep going. Could open up for some cool moses-yasuo moments.

Faded Lich1 votes

So do they hit multiple times as well? And how do you animate it since not a single "multi projectile" thing in the game is a single mass like Nami's wave. And if one of the "Projectile" waves hits someone does that then vanish like every other projectile in the game thus leaving an opening in the wave for people to dodge?

Or does it stay and still count as active which could say, result in people getting hit multiple times by the effect. Just some things off the top of my head.

Sorry for bothering :D Just in case you want to listen some new ideas.

No need to apologize. I like threads like this and I honestly don't care which way it goes. I just find ideas fun.

How do you explain Nautilus Ult going through then. http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Yasuo/Projectiles

Skelenth1 votes

It was mentioned that the Windwall blocks Projectiles above ground-level, but Nautilus R is a projectile below ground-level

spavined1 votes

it blocks vel koz w and braum r and poppy r tho

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

Because those visibly travel through the same space as Wind Wall.

Ziggs and Xerath ultimates fly off-screen before landing at their destination, and Nautilus' projectile location is only shown by the detonations along its path, leaving us to assume it is deep underground (Depth Charge).

Braum, Vel'koz and Poppy have essentially visible projectiles traveling through what the game recognizes as the same plane as Wind Wall.

MacDeath1 votes

True that. I was implying a code biased explanation of the fact.

Faded Lich1 votes

Despite the animation it's still counted as a straight forward projectile. Rioters themselves have commented on that one.

MacDeath1 votes

Well then the question comes up: If_ a_ projectile can go through the wall, why not Nami's Ult, too?

Faded Lich1 votes

Same reason Ziggs ult can get past the wall. Pretty much if it isn't physically hitting the wall, they some how put an exception to it. However that wouldn't apply to nami's wall and to do what you and others are wanting it to do would take massive reworking of how the ult works, possibly recoding of windwall itself to also compensate and just a lot of mechanical changes.

Pretty much without nami getting a rework in other areas as well, it would be A LOT of time dedicated to it for essentially nothing and a single champion and even if they did rework her, there is no guarantee they'd do this anyway simply because, when you really think and look at it: The amount of work and ways it can break JUST to make it interact differently with this SINGLE ability.....not really worth it.

Besides if you want to bring up weird things going through his windwall, Look at Lux ult, Xerath Q/W/R, Azir solider's interactions with it, etc.

Nami's Q animation would have the bubble lob over the wall yet it gets blocked.

You'd have to ask a rioter on that one. I have very little personal knowledge on it beyond quoting things I know they've said in past Q and As and such. I would think that went past it and if it doesn't I wouldn't know why xP.

But by riot's own logic, that one should.

It does not. I play Nami (less lately but I did play her a lot last season) and QWR get blocked by Yasuo's wall.

WW also tends to block projectiles that are no longer projectiles, such as Lux's E - it gets blocked if it's already laying on the ground when Yasuo uses his wall and it touches the circle.

The most ridiculous part about the wall though is that it blocks Kass' E but not Annie's W. They are the same freaking visual except one is fire and the other is dark energy.

The wind obviously causes her fire to burn hotter :^)

But that is indeed strange. I am by no means defending it or saying the skill is perfect mind you. I'm was just (originally) pointing how silly and difficult it would be to make this single ability, effect another ability in this amazingly specific way just to conform to irl logic along with paroting some rioter stuff.

But yeah. Windwall is weird.

Oshlet1 votes

I'm pretty sure they said that the only arcing projectiles that should go over it are ones that go off the screen like ziggs and xerath ulties.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Even so, it's a drastic oversight that makes his overloaded kit even more frustrating to face.

l Helios l3 votes

It's treated as a projectile. That's just the ability man. There's nothing inherently wrong with it. No one complains about Olaf ult absorbing all CC or Morg shield; it's just what the skill is.

Sona Ping1 votes

No one complains about Olaf ult absorbing all CC

What?! Yeah they do. Even Riot complains about Olaf's ult.

..."Complaining" about him in both kneecaps.

MacDeath1 votes

Just that we know more about the element water than the human body or magic...

So water doing weird stuff is more likely confusing than the human body or magic doing weird stuff. Right?

l Helios l1 votes

You're trying to equate physics and chemistry to psychology, philosophy and physiology. That's a lost fight friend :P

MacDeath1 votes

LoL is fictional, and thus it isn't surprising that it gives the human body attributes that can not be proven in reality like many other games/movies.

Basic water instead is rarely modified.

So I guess we both lost that fight then :P

l Helios l1 votes

Well I think you need to isolate the word "proven." Technically nothing can be proven beyond reasonable doubt. There can always be an X factor that casts doubt on something. For all we know, we could all be blobs like Zac, but we still exhibit qualities and qualia of solid organisms. Our perception =/= reality and reality could be nothing more than a non-phyisical existence where perceptions are nothing more than the impulses on the non-physical mind. Or we could all be brains in a vat :)

MacDeath3 votes

It doesn't stop a volley of bullets (MF-Ult) but a flood of water that is even wider than the wall itself. http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/517/111/fbd.jpg

EDIT Wait, does it actually don't stop MF-ult?

Ralanr2 votes

Wait it doesn't? That's...wtf? Is her ult a beam?

I had a similar post here, trying to be calm and not use bad words, asking for a discussion. I got some, but not much feedback. Someone else posts an angry post, fills it with offensive words, does nothing but complain and he got an instant upvotes.

And then one would ask "Is the community really so bad".

kaltenashes3 votes

im up for it, destroy windwall after a certain amount of damage/skill shots

Timewinder3 votes

or you could stop being bronze 5 and play around windwall

WalkingInACircle1 votes

Yeah! Just don't use your ultimate until Yasuo lets you!

Left Hook Larry3 votes

Or don't pick nami into a counter LOL

It would be like a Blitz main complaining about how overloaded Morgana is because he can't do anything unless Morg lets him.

WalkingInACircle2 votes

Yeah! Because you always get to choose your champion after your opponents do!

Left Hook Larry3 votes

If he chooses it after then learn how to play around it LOL. It's not a 100% block only if you shoot it in his direction. Like I said, it would be like a blitz main complaining about how overloaded morg is that she can block any cc in the game for any person and it makes blitz kit useless. Learn how to play against it or stay bad, your choice

Aeolian Melodies3 votes

I'm okay with his wall blocking ults - yes I play Nami too. And Sona. I'm okay with a good reflex wall from Yasuo blocking me.

I'm not okay with his wall blocking the WHOLE THING when he placed it cross-side like a noob and the corner of my ult happens to touch one pixel of the wall.

If anything lower the duration of the wall so it becomes more of a "DID YOU SEE MY MAD REFLEX" than "lol fk your entire kit of the next 3.75 seconds, and fk your desire to siege our tower too". OR give the wall HP so your team can break with with projectiles of less importance to set you up.

JustMyBassCannon3 votes

Or maybe we could just, y'know, point out that Riot recently fixed up their projectile coding and could easily implement a "wave shot" effect to wide skill shots.

You know, a collection of individual projectiles within the ultimate fired in a wave.

Stars Shaper2 votes

That would be cool.

Or does it stay and still count as active which could say, result in people getting hit multiple times by the effect. Just some things off the top of my head.

JustMyBassCannon2 votes

Could you maybe not place these in weird quotes that make it hard to actually reply to each point individually?

Anyway.

  1. "So do they hit multiple times as well?" No. Functionally, it'd be like how Talon's ultimate or Lulu's Q only allows 1 hit per pass.

  2. "And how do you animate it since not a single 'multi projectile' thing in the game is a single mass like Nami's wave?" This is probably what could take up the most time. They could either just stick to sectioning pieces of the whole animation as parts of the projectile (which might look a bit chunky at times, but still be functional), or they could go so far as making separate partial animations for when the projectile portion to the left/right is missing.

  3. "And if one of the 'Projectile' waves hits someone does that then vanish like every other projectile in the game thus leaving an opening in the wave for people to dodge?" Well, that could be an interesting mechanic on future abilities, but that wasn't the intention of this idea. Rather, if the wave partially strikes Wind Wall/Unbreakable, only part of the wave is destroyed.

  4. "Or does it stay and still count as active, which could, say, result in people getting hit multiple times by the effect?" As I mentioned in the first point, no, they should not get hit multiple times by the same projectile. Hell, I think it's stupid when that works with regular skill shots and Flash, but that's a tangent. No, the wave would not re-strike the same target. We have programmed cases of both functions--multiple bullets multi-striking and not multi-striking--so I don't see how it's too hard to recreate that part.

MacDeath2 votes

I actually think the 2nd problem will hit hardest. Btw it looks pretty weird too when water splits up without reuniting after passing the obstacle, doesn't it?

He had to respond like to be fair, he was quoting me.

1.) Talon's is like this due to the fat it's a spread out AoE, Lulu's is like this because you can fire in multiple directions/angels and hit different things you other wise wouldn't. Functionally, outside of perhaps effecting JUST windwall, this serves no purpose..so really it's kinda pointless and if anything possibly makes it weaker overall.

2.) This could work but like you said it would take a lot of development time just for this one function.

3.) It might not be the intention of your idea but the point of the quoted post and the post I made before it is to drive home a point and make people think, this is one such consequence you'd have to consider.

4.) This was just a secondary option

Overall point: No matter what you do, how you look at it if you think on it realistically, to add in this functionality in any kind of realistic way it would take a decent amount of resources, development time and possibly reworking of not only Nami's ult but perhaps some kind of reprogramming on the Windwall as well, just so this single ability interacts a little more "realistically" with a single ult.

In the end, it makes no sense. It doesn't mesh with reality from a logical stand point, this is true but neither does beings like Nocturne, ult's like Zilean's and abilities like bard's magical journey. It doesn't need to. Yes it is annoying when it happens but do me a favor and name 5 other hard counters to that ability? The fact is it's just a case of "This annoys me really bad the rare time it happens and it sticks in my head vs all the other times it doesn't.

And if it really bothers you so much stop wasting your ult before you force him to windwall and if you're in ranked and you think it's going to be problem try a skill shot oriented team comp that would force him to WW often. There are answers and it's up to the players to exploit them. But an expensive and nonsensical redesign is not the answer.

Just my two cents.

JustMyBassCannon2 votes

Yeah, considering this thread is explicitly about Wind Wall, it's fair to assume that is the purpose of the change.

Having said that, I do agree that it's a lot of work for a singular interaction. I'm just sick of lazy-ass players complaining that their SUPAWIDE ULTAMITE got munched by Yasuo, and suggest an alternative to specifically fucking him over.
