What are champion shards?

Trying to move to mastery level 7 and it says to do it, I have to use a champ shard or a champ permanent. So what are champ shards? If I use the champ permanent, do I lose that champ?

Champion shard is a Hextech Crafting item that you can get buy opening a Hextech Chest. This can be turned into a champion that you own with 500 Blue Essence (gained by disenchanting other champ shards) Champion Permanent is like a shard. Only you get those by rerolling 3 champion shards (which will normally give you 1 random champion you do not own, but if you own all champions, you get a champion permanent)

you can buy champion shards from the shop for IP and you can get champion shards from opening hextech chest.

u use champion shards and turn them into champion permanents for a price or you can dis-enchant them and you gain blue or gold essance (dont remeber which), they one u need to upgrade ur champions mastery level.

also if your trying to increased your champions mastery lets say vayne, u need a vayne permanent that you would get from playing games and scoring an S with her while your vaynes mastery level is atleast lvl 5 already.

Champion shards and permanents are Hextech Crafting materials. You can buy random shards for 1700 IP in the shop, to which you can either reroll 3 into a random permanent or disenchant them into the blue essence, which can also be used to upgrade any mastery tokens or can be used to upgrade champion shards. If you have a champion permanent in your crafting inventory, that means that you already own the champion. You can also open any champion shard from any hextech chest you open.
