Why does Sona have an AoE shield?

I mean wasn't this one of the things they removed from Thresh because it was considered "too strong"

It was too strong for his already too strong kit - not as an mechanic, as seen from:

Sona Shield Lux Shield Karma Shield Locket of Iron Solari (yes, this effect is even on an item)

Trust me on this, it's horrible unless she has a crap ton of AP. I remember the days when supports weren't just second APCs with healing, they actually built support items...

It also heals

No, that's the actual ability, her aura provides the shield, which, again, is pretty bad unless you stack AP like an AP mid traditionally would. Her shield lasts for 1.5 seconds, not to mention the fact that the auras only have a range of 350. For comparison, her AoE shields last as long as Riven's, except if she builds straight AP to take advantage of her crappy scalings she's basically painting a target on herself, while wearing a neon sign that says, "ONE OF THE SQUISHIEST CHAMPS IN THE GAME IS BUILDING STRAIGHT AP".

Janna's: 5 seconds Karma's: 5 seconds Lee Sin's: 5 seconds Lulu's: 6 seconds Lux's: 3+ seconds (if refreshed) Orianna's: 4 seconds Shen's: 5 seconds Thresh's: 4 seconds

Just because it's AoE doesn't mean it's useful. I miss her old auras. Even if people couldn't tell you were helping them, at least you were actually useful. Her current auras are terrible.

Yeah; in my opinion the shield and on hit auras are holding back a lot of her potential just because the numbers look good only on paper.

Pretty sure they're the sole reason she got so trashed in her rework; they thought a) she NEEDED them, and b) putting them into her kit would make her OP. Don't really get the reasoning on the first part.

I think it'd be better to give them her old auras back, instead of that dumb Q aura and a shield that gimps her healing potential. All her old kit really needed was some visual clarity.

That seems to be what most Sona players wanted, but the people in charge were just like, "NEW MECHANICS, GUYS! zomg! Oh, by the way, in return for this, we're gonna nerf pretty much everything else about Sona's kit. Who's hyped for this, dudes?!"

Riot shouldn't try to fix what isn't broken.

Someone says Sona is OP guys. Better nerf her.

You're forgetting karma's aoe + speed up + damage shield (shield's quite big actually.) but hey no one plays her so its fine.

It was considered better in terms of clarity than the armor and magic resist she used to give
