I'm already seen about 3 threads concerning his somewhat nerfed W speed, such as the one where it shows a video of Maokai can't even finish casting his new W on an ulting Quinn. Like wtf is up with that?

Maokai is a Warden. He's not an engaging tank, and Twisted Advance has always been used as a tool to engage teamfights along with movement skills and allied, long-range CC to set him up.
Slowing it down reduces it's effectiveness as an engagement tool, while still keeping it's effectiveness as a peeling tool (If they're trying to get passed you, the speed won't matter since they're right next to you).

Hell, it's harder to time for allies of the target because it takes Mao an eternity to get there, so you have to like hold on to your CC until he gets there an eon later.

I find it to be one of the most enjoyable abilities in the game and it will be a shadow of its former self.
Only a single goddamn bounce just so they can squeeze in a gimmicky reposition.
