Why Can't you Self-Cancel Fiddlesticks' Ult?

SummonerSquid··32 votes·3,532 views

Fiddlesticks decides to ult, and the enemy retreats. Wastes ult for 2+ minutes.

Pantheon decides to ult, and the enemy retreats. Ult goes on 10 second cooldown.

Please allow Fiddlesticks to self-cancel ult and put it on a reduced cooldown like Pantheon's ult. It is very unforgiving to fat-finger R. What does everyone else think?

I wonder how great the troll potential would be if we gave this to Karthus as well :p

Crowstorm is meant to be a high risk high reward ability. A lot of that risk is taken away if you can just channel your ult constantly and cancel it whenever it doesn't look perfect.

You also eliminate a lot of the clutch answers to fiddle ult (like someone flash stunning you) when the fiddle player can just cancel before the other team gets to.

Finally, it's not like fiddle needs a buff right now. he's an incredibly strong jungler, especially in solo queue.

I agree, fids provides huge amounts of damage with that ability, if he could throw it around, it would make him above god tier. Pantheon on the other hand, has a ult INDICATOR showing where he is going to land once its cast, and if the enemy sees that, he cant cancel, because he is in the air. fids on the other hand, if he could cancel, his "I don't see fids, OH GOD!!!" ult, he could constantly on the edge of team fights canceling if it does not look right, giving the enemy team 10 seconds to kill (now mobile, and probably unseen) Fids. its would just be beyond broken.

Imagine if pantheons only ult indicator was the black shadow dot... That would be amazing.

Actually, Spreek is completely right.

Pantheon can only cancel his ult BEFORE he jumps into the air. The enemy team only knows where Pantheon is ulting AFTER he jumps into the air (the circle doesn't appear for enemies until his ult is locked in and cannot be cancelled).

If Fiddle could cancel his ult, enemies who spot him channeling it would no longer be able to flash away before he is on top of them, because then he'd just cancel it and they wasted their flash.

Thats a rather specific encounter.

I already voted yes, but I regret it after reading Spreek's post. He is completely correct.

shadecrapper1 votes

I guess. But then Pantheon ult should be the same way.

There are sooooo many times when I've Crowstormed and instantly regretted it. This would be a major advantage, given the long cooldown on the skill and how difficult it can be to judge if the skill will result in success or failure. I think it's the least Riot can do after nerfing crowstorm. Then again, it might cause backlash in the form on constant fiddle bans....

Not to mention how easy it is to interrupt.

Well on the other hand having a fiddle in a team fight would mean that many flashes are burned for the enemy team. Usually the squishies will flash out of crow storm and go out of it's range. But then fiddle would get burned flashes AND be able to use it again in a very short period of time.

Yes because Grandskyfall=crow storm. NAW GTFO that would be hella broken. Imagine all the high AP jungling fiddles ready to use their utli's before a gank at any time and if something goes wrong, just cancel the ult, wait in lane for 10 sec or go to another lane and wreck with that ult again.

comparing strength of panth ult to fid ult.

comparing strength of panth ult to fid ult.

I didn't mention the strength of either of them. It's the control over them I'm calling inconsistent.

But the strength is extremely relevant to this decision. Panth ult is nice AoE damage, but Fid's is deadly. Since Fid's ult is has a higher reward, it merits higher risk. I'll add that Fid's ability to zhonya's after ulting probably has some influence on the choice as well. The high cd is primarily to reward teams that are coordinated enough to either interrupt his channel or get out of range. Neither of these feats are particularly easy to accomplish and should be rewarded appropriately.

I definitely think that Fiddlesticks deserves to be able to cancel his ultimate.

Much of Fiddlesticks' teamfighting power comes from Crowstorm, and he needs to be able to use it when teamfights come around. The ability to cancel it for a reduced cooldown would dramatically help his teamfighting because he no longer needs to commit to a single teamfight through a channel, and be less punishing when his opponents run away from his teamfight. However, having it reduced to 10 seconds might be a little too much. Closer to like 20 or 30 seconds might be more appropriate.

You look at Pantheon, and canceling Fiddlesticks' ult looks less ridiculous because Panth uses it for map mobility, and has a lot of teamfighting power in his basic abilities.

I think giving him this would allow them to get another "lever," as I think Riot has called them in the past, to balance this champ. Great input.

Just because the cancel works one way on his Ult does not mean the cancel would have to work the same way on Fiddlesticks. Canceling Crowstorm wouldn't have to put it on the same 10 second cooldown. Riot could work it so if Fiddlesticks gets Silenced, Stunned etc within say 3 seconds of the beginning of the channel (normally 1.5 seconds) the Ult goes on full cooldown regardless of whether or not the player canceled it.

shadecrapper1 votes

Thats what sucks. People see you channelling your ult, then just cc you. Ult goes on full cooldown and you wodle away thinking "if only..."

SummonerSquid1 votes

I just think it's inconsistent with similar gameplay mechanics (like pantheon ultimate and teleport), and leads to stupid mistakes instead of actual gameplay. Definitely fits in with one of their design goals they've been promoting so hard.

SleepyLionCub1 votes

Yes, maybe HOWEVER it should still have a much longer cooldown than 10 seconds. Seeing a fiddle ulting in the distance is way too scary to witness for him to be able to chicken out and then reuse it later in the teamfight.

WTFMatee1 votes

Fiddlesticks uly is a gamechanger pantheons isnt

You really want a fiddle to cancel freely until he gets a perfect ult in

No thank you

If fiddlesticks had this he would be first pick first ban in every kind of play

coppinslinger1 votes

Guys, you all are missing the point.

Fiddle doesn't back down when he presses R. Pantheon does.

I guess we know who the real man is now. Hint. He doesn't have chiseled 6-pack abs.

Thanks to everyone for all the input! So far it looks like most of the people disagreeing think that since Fiddlesticks has more game impact with his ult, it should be less forgiving and have higher risk than reward.

My rebuttal to this would be that there is still risk ulting into the middle of a teamfight and that there are a lot of ways to counterplay his ultimate via vision, CC, displacement spells, shields, ignite, etc.

Once again thanks for all the responses! If you're interested in reading more about gameplay and advanced LoL strategy visit my blog Intentional Feeding.

I'd really like for a Rioter to weigh in on the subject.

It should be on a shorter cooldown if canceled, but not as short. 30 seconds would be reasonable.

Or simply remove shorter cooldowns from cancelled abilities entirely, because it's a bit of a double standard no matter how you try to justify it.

self-cancel during the charge time (like Panth) or self cancel after he's already attempted to dish out some damage (just wants to shorten the duration)

Because there's a big difference between those two points.

I meant self-cancel during the channel time, like Pantheon. I can't see how stopping mid-ult gives you any benefit besides giving kills to other team mates. Interesting thought.

As a Fiddlesticks main I fully agree to this proposition! Fiddlesticks {{summoner:10}}

because by the time you ulti in and zhonyas, the enemy team is dead.

shadecrapper1 votes

His ult is all about timing, and you have to charge it up. This would be loads of help. He is still my favorite champ though :D
