What happened to league?? (or am I just bad?)
This might as well be a bitching post but I can't find an explanation anywhere. I started back late season 5/ early season 6. I liked league. It was fun. It was strategic (even in the depths of bronze i felt like my macro play as a nasus main was being put to use). And I used my game knowledge to climb myself up to high silver 1 during season 6. I would have hit gold (probably) but exams got in the way. Now season 7 has started. Honestly. It feels like everything that I learned in season 6 about league has been thrown OUT THE FUCKING WINDOW. What turned from a methodical game in which two players on each team got fed and led their teams, has turned into a one man, shitshow for whichever person comes out the best in laning phase.
During season 6, since I was learning the game, I would play a lot of champs that scale really well with farm. Nasus, Trundle, Jax, etc, because the streamers/youtubers that I watched would all say that was the best type of champs to play since games typically lasted longer. I took them, particularly Nasus, and got really good with them to the point that i would snowball super hard on them. When I ended, I silver 1 with 90ish lp and still doing pretty well. Wouldn't win lane every single game, but I would do pretty well and rarely feed.
Fast forward to season 7. From the getgo it has been a shitshow. The old sustain/farm lanes of malphite/chogath/shen have now come to EVERY SINGLE LANE BEING A KILL LANE. What the hell happened. I know lower elo's meta is meant to be more of a solo carry, but COME ON PEOPLE. The lanes went from people sustaining through early game (given yes with some aggression to try and get ahead) to people taking high damage champs and placing farm second to trying to kill you in every single lane. What this does is it forces me to play either an early game bully to contest them or just give up my game. With every single lane going aggro, one of your lanes is bound to feed and since you are at a disadvantage due to facing an early gamer, you now are so far behind due to giving up cs to not die, that there is virtually no hope to carry the game. Win lane= win game is the current meta it seems which basically destroys any hope of playing later game (sometimes even mid game) champions.
The conclusion has come from watching gameplay across the board as well as my own. In silver (full of old gold players) the games are extremely snowbally with inconsistent throws (not to mention throws within throws by teams not taking advantage). Then in higher elo the players understand how to back off when the 2/0 lv 9 talon is roaming bot, or to not engage the fed yi while half health and holding 2k gold in your inventory.
I don't ask for much, but I do ask how the hell it feels like I have to learn the game all over again. It went from being a pretty passive/aggressive game with one or two lanes getting ahead to assassins and early game monstrosities abusing high damage items and building glass cannon making fights last no longer than 4-5 seconds. If this is the pinnacle of assassins truly getting their potential by breaking the meta and turning the game on its head then I hope it never happens again.
PS It doesn't help that I spent so many hours learning more theory than some diamond players and put so many hours into climbing just to have everyone drop a division and make the last half of my climb feel completely useless. Because being demoted to silver 5 from silver 4 when in reality I am facing gold 5/4 people of a month ago every game is pretty fucking tilting. We all worked our asses off to hit gold and one decision says, "nope fuck you all that time you spent is worthless."
PPS I really need a break from this bullshit. Kinda glad the stress of school starts in a week.
