Those were two different groups of ppl.

First group were ppl who enjoyed old Sion. For them on that day Sion was killed.

Second group were ppl who never played Sion or never enjoyed playing him. They just wanted new tank champion.

Pretty sure you have the same deal here. People that play Galio, not many. And everyone else. I love how people are upset before he is even playable.

Sion changed more than any update.

For Sion the only vusual on his model they kept was the axe and they kept the shield ability and added the stacking passive to it. It ended up being fine but he was a completely different champ.

The only reason people started playing him after rework so much was because his e was broken at the time.

I personally think new Galio looks like he will be more fun to play. Similar to new Warwick

Or you know. There were people who enjoyed both pre-rework and post-rework sion?

You don't get it. Sion wasn't a 'whole new champ.' Sion was the original outset that was outlined in everything but VO; the terrifying, soldier-cleaving zombie. They just lined his personality up to the edgy backstory. That's all.

Galio was a perfectly stoic and taciturn character. But, now, he's some sort of GTL douchebag with an overbearing ego and an inflated sense of self. I won't get all psych on you, but nobody wanted this out of Galio.

Honestly, everything included, it's like Galio's being turned into a Zac skin.

Still not sure why they overhauled his personality, though we've only heard about three voice lines.

there was some QA, where cactopus said "I think the title of that Facebook video sort of misrepresented him a bit. He's not gonna feel cocky in game. More joyful." So tbh I think we don't have all that good an idea of what his personality is gonna be.

You can listen to all his voicelines now on youtube, he sounds like a giant idiotic pile of muscle, hurrr durrr I crush little people, sounds like a mix of Jayce and Mundo honestly. Really good job RIOT, turning calm, vice old character into a dumb egotistical pile of muscle...

Basically this.

With Sion, Riot at least tried to keep his core thematic the same - a terrifying undead juggernaut. With Galio it's like they threw his entire personality into the trash and made a brand new champion who is quite frankly more annoying than anything.

Been playing sion since season 1. And yes they did kill old sion, all he needed at the time was a gap closer and his ap ratios tuned down. They could've just increased his Q's range or have it apply a slow, but instead decided to change his entire kit while keeping the W.

Nobody said that about Fiora everyone hated her and still hates her new looks compared to the old one

I personally think that most reworks have been successes. It is just hard to please everyone, so complaints are almost always heard. Edit: removed a generalization. They are too easy to write. :)

Really there have been a few good ones Taric Cassiopeia etc.

And then there are the, this isn't even the same champ in any way except for the one ability nobody cared about Poppy Sion etc

then there are the complete what the hell ones Shen Graves Malzahar etc.

and finally the, nothing in common ones (galio is in this one) Fiora Yorick

doodlebob6661 votes

i mean what was really salvagable from old poppy, or yorrick. some champs are just mistakes not saying galio is but you seem to be saying that it is never justified to completely revamp a champion

Golden Tager X1 votes

It isn't ever justified to remove everything.

Yorick should have at the very least kept his ult.

Galio should have kept his W.

doodlebob6661 votes

his ult was probably his most problematic part though since it meant that the rest of his kit would need to be trash, its a massive fight swing to spawn a second adc for 10 seconds, and the fact that they won't die even if your team manages to dive them is even more insane, zilean has this but he has to use this in a far more reactionary way, while yorick could slap it on your twitch at the beginning of a team fight and then laugh since that alone is worth more than the entire kits of alot of top laners.

For Galio, I honestly think only his Q and passive needed changes, along with a VU, these changes seem more made for a champ who is fundamentally broken instead of just bland

Ben Sharpio2 votes

and then he went back to having a low playrate.

DoktorKaiser1 votes

That is exactly what I am saying, I used to play old Sion, after rework he was spammed for as long as he was broken, after that we went back to extremely low playrate he used to have before the rework, but we also literally lost old Sion, now the difference is that old Sion wasnt exactly a personality you cared for very much, at least for me and new Sion is cool and I really love it. Galio on the other hand, for me, was likable and sounded stoic and vice and calm, now he sounds like a brainless wrestler or something, really dumb and without any kind of personality. Here I dont think it was worth ruining the personality in order to promote the champion for a couple of weeks and grab the cash from Gatekeeper skin then let him be 0.0001% playrate again...

I remembered it much better as new sion still somewhat resembled old sion

tbh the new galio abilities and animations are really dope man. but i kind of dislike his look, doesnt look that gargoyle'ish anymore.

Spoofghoul2 votes

no one ever thought Fiora was amazing and is till can't find anyone who thinks so what i do find is people who find her aids because she is aids

Tychusfindlay9192 votes

Old fiora classic splash art way hotter. Thicc

New one just looks like a stuck up bitch who had five million dollars of plastic surgery.

Golden Tager X1 votes

Don't get me wrong I like Sion, but I also feel like new Sion could have been released as a new champ and nobody would have been able to tell this was a Sion rework at one point.

Derfel1 votes

I love how you're trying to pretend Sion, GP and Fiora were picked in 100% of games post rework because OMG SO FUN and not OMG SO BROKEN. But then again the sheep who move from one broken piece of shit to another always love to tell others, no, Leblanc is fun, ok that's why I'm playing her and not because you can't lose lane with her period.

This new Galio has all the makings of Riot's lazy design, %hp damage, %damage mitigation and now he can apparently ignore CC, so interesting. Galio totally needed to die so you could get another rework of Shen. I'm sure if he's broken enough the sheep will be sucking Riot's dick in no time, doesn't mean the rework was good.

Matake1 votes

Sorry but old Sion had an incredibly stupid passive

point invalidated just by that alone

Anonagon1 votes

I wouldn't put Gangplank or Fiora anywhere near Sion or Galio on this. GP and Fiora are still visibly the same people, and have kits that at least on a surface level do pretty similar things to their old selves.

I also think that, while Galio and Sion are both changed on a similar scale, I think that Galio had a lot more worth keeping than Sion, and I'm disappointed that a lot of it wasn't kept. Yes, I am not a Galio player, because his kit is shit and isn't worth keeping. But there's an appeal to his visuals, that Gargoyle look, that's completely lost with the update. There's an appeal to his story and personality, the sadness of it in particular, that is completely shattered when you press play on the teaser video and Galio yells "FEELS GOOD TO STRETCH MY WINGS!". With Sion, everything about him was dumb and it meant nothing that it left. I'm sure even if they don't like his new kit, Old Sion players at least like his visuals and story. I don't think Galio players will quite like their sad Gargoyle being turned into a joyful superhero man.

Honestly I never liked Taric for a support champion, I've been playing him alot lately and he feels too hard and frustrating to play in solo-q. I do alot better with Taric in the jungle. I'd be happy if riot looked at him again and changed how the e works too, sometimes you shoot it forward and then your ally you're paired with shoots it back because they are infront of you.
