Riot, what exactly are you doing with Vladimir right now?

I've said it before and I'll say it till I no longer need to, I have a tremendous love of Vladimir. Vladimir is, in part, why I play League at all, but that's not why I'm making this post. I'm making this post because Vladimir is currently sitting at a 43% winrate, after a slew of nerfs, of note last patch.

As a refresher:

Base Health reduced from 550 to 525.

Crimson Rush base healing bonus reduced to 30 - 200 from 40 - 240.

Tides of Blood cost/scaling damage reduced to 8% of maximum health. Tides of Blood Cooldown increased to 13/11/9/7/5 from 9/8/7/6/5.

These, coupled with the nerfs from the patch prior:

Base Movement Speed reduced from 335 to 330.

Sanguine Pool Cooldown increased by 2 seconds at all ranks.

These are not small, ignorable changes. Now, you could argue that any Champion could feasibly sit at any winrate if their playerbase is dominated by less than adequately skilled players. I'd argue against that with a quote from a good friend of mine.

> Plebs or not, that is bad.

Yes, it is bad.

Vlad is in this position most likely because of his performance in the LCS, his claim to any fame consisting of landing his ultimate and adding a 10% damage amp to anyone caught by it.

So Riot responded by...nerfing the shit out of everything else in his kit. That is really not the way I think you should be approaching this kind of problem.

If his ult is a problem, nerf the ult. If you don't want to see him in your professional-level games, nerf the thing that's making him picked at that level: Haemoplague. Don't forget that this is the highest level of play, where teams are as coordinated as they're going to be, so a teamfight-utility ult is something you'd reasonably see at that level, rather than in soloqueue where more self-centered ults are more feasible.

Vlad as a champion is made up of being consistently middle-ground powerful, rather than moments of great heights and great lows. Vlad's QWE are infinitely more core to the Champion than his R, whereas someone like Veigar or Tryndamere's success is predicated on their ult being off cooldown for a fight. I can't be the only one who believes that, who thinks that Vlad's strength should be in his basic abilities and away from his ultimate.

So Riot, once again, what exactly are you doing with Vladimir? Is seeing him played at higher levels after he's been reworked to be healthier something you didnt want to happen? Is what you did with his MYMU update off-the-mark for what you wanted, and you'll just return him to the same, underpowered state that he was forcibly kept in pre-rework, even though the things that used to exist (like his interaction with SpellVamp and how his Q offered almost nothing in the way of opponents playing around it) no longer do?

I don't (much like anyone else) want to see my favourite Champion slashed and left to bleed out because an infinitesimally small percentage of the playerbase with the highest of coordination abilities is performing well with him, and thus ruined for the rest of the much more mediocre playerbase.

Yours Cordially, Tides of Blood

They nerfing him, then leave him in the dumpster for a year and a half, then rework him again.

If that's the direction they'll take, I imagine a year and a half is very generous odds.

nerf the thing that's making him picked at that level: Haemoplague

This is not the only thing that makes him picked at that level. Vladmir himself is very powerful in a teamcomp that can enable him. Begin the only AP threat that can sustain infinitely to apply constant pressure on the map also is huge.

ACENOX4 votes

"infinitely sustain to apply a constant pressure" have you tried to heal yourself against minions?

Did you ever watch vladimir in competition by the way? he gets destroy in any match up, and is only good after 2/3 items to ulti an entire team and tank a lot of damage due to sustain(if they don't build gravious wound).

in anything else he is surpassed by any current midlaner Cassiopeia Syndra Taliyah Anivia (thanks god nerfed on pbe)

These changes are aimed at reducing his durability and being drain-tanky from the start. It's fine if he builds like that with proper items but the moment he gets an HP/AP item and goes for the Spirit Visage, that's the moment he becomes unkillable and on the way of become the most annoying champion to deal with.

His base HP was reduced because he has a Q-Empowered Q and ult. Ghost is a staple on him so slightly reduced MS makes sure he isn't too fast to be unable to be shaken off.

Tides of Blood being the most damaging ability and annoying for poke (and he recovers his HP pretty easily), the CDR has been slightly increased for earlier levels.

Sanguine Pool change was there to make sure he doesn't press the ability whenever it is off CD to avoid damage. After all, you use it to dodge stuff in the right situation, you shouldn't be rewarded with a low CD. Neither does Fiora's Riposte reward blowing the ability too soon.

Except he's not drain-tanky from the start anyway. No one is. He still gets blown to shit before he builds any items.

most annoying champion to deal with.

Really? Really? Fizz Ekko Irelia Graves Lulu Leblanc Quinn TahmKench Soraka Teemo Yasuo

His base HP was reduced because...he can heal? I don't follow.

335 wasnt exactly blindingly fast levels of movement speed. If Vladimir escapes because he popped Ghost, it's because he was using Ghost, not because of that extra 5 points of base movement speed.

Tides of Blood also cost a fairly large chunk of health that is difficult to restore unless you have a significant amount of AP or your lane opponent is just letting you Rush Q them for free.

Sanguine Pool's pre-nerf CD did the same thing as well. You arent abusing anything with a 26 second base CD that you don't start ranking up until level 13. This is just breaking an already hospitalized limb.

I wasn't saying anything about him escaping. Tapering off 5 MS may seem like negligent value but it's noticeable. Crimson Rush Q has a pretty significant boost to healing + a Spirit Visage. If you're not building that, then you have a problem.

Sona x Rubick1 votes

crimson rush gives 10% more ms for 0.5 seconds, this will not make you to catch smart players to use the healing boost+visage

Elikain1 votes

His Q isn't a champion only ability. All you need to do is poke and heal off any target to come out on top. All you need to do as well is to cast ult, delay the fight, deal damage, pool and still get healed from it.

Sona x Rubick4 votes

you have absolutly no clue of what you're talking about his base hp wasn't reduced cause of his Q or R, it was to make him lose lane more often which was already the case if people knew how to play.

tides of blood annoying for poke when you can't use it if they are behind minions, during 1 sec they also can throw back pokes at you

"recover his hp pretty easily" no, he doesn't. HEAL: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 from lvl 1 to 3 or more, it's x3 less than a midlaner AD, everytime he uses his crimson rush he becomes an easy target to bully, and his tides of blood has 13 seconds cooldown literally even if crimson rush is here you can bully him once he uses it, his transfusion deals 75 / 90 / 105 / 120 / 135, is this a joke?

people are way overestimating vladimir's sustain, it became trash unless you use it on champions, and spellvamp isn't here anymore. People have so much flashes from what vladimir was before.

WoonStruck1 votes

His laning phase was shit before the rework, and now its even worse. He doesn't have WotA anymore to make up for it, and he can't even farm decently, unlike with the old rework.

He just sucks now, IMO. :/

If people think laning against Vlad is cancer, wait until they see a half-decent Ryze or Cass.

I know exactly what i'm talking about. And i guess Vlad in LCS to you means nothing because i saw him doing pretty well and being annoying. Not that it's forbidden but with the right items, not straight from the start of the game.

So far i'm noticing a trend in the community. Frustrating champions can go fuck themselves and be gutted (deleted) for all you guys care but as soon as balancing someone else comes into play, then it's always unfair. Talk about being biased.

Sona x Rubick2 votes

as someone who suggested multiple nerfs to sona, i don't think i'm biased

i don't even play vlad, my other laners if i don't take into account jhin and sona are darius and jayce, both played mid/top i don't have any problems with vlad

none gives a shit about what vlad does in lcs except the lcs players themselves. In soloQ most of us above plat to master destroys vlad without any issues.

43% win rate, lmfao

Elikain1 votes

Win rate of a champion is affected by his play rate. Just look at the sample size of Jhin and Azir. Someone who used to be played a lot but drastically stopped VS someone who is popular now. You're probably one of those people who looks at the stats and is all like: "champions below 50% are pure garbage".

Sona had the same trend. Probably underplayed and sat in below 50% winrate until her buffs came. Now she sits at a decent 12k sample size with a 53% win rate. And yet, i don't see her much in games. If anything, the community has taught me that something that is slightly more viable than something else, no one misses the opportunity to abuse it. If LCS doesn't put a spotlight on a specific champion, they aren't in the meta and popular. They are only played by people who already play them.

Sona x Rubick1 votes
  1. Sona had never a win rate below 50%, before her buff she had 53% win rate but a small play rate
  2. Azir didn't have a garbage win rate **above plat, **in fact it was one of the higher, now he has 43% win rate above plat just like vladimir and they both need help.
