Hit lv 30, totally not ready for ranked. Help? (I also suck at farming)

So I've probably been playing this game for almost a year now, but I took a long hiatus from it. I recently got back into this game again, and climbed my way up to lv 30. However, I am getting completely demolished in my placement matches (6/10) so far, having won only 2 of these matches. To be fair, I am fighting against 1-2 gold players and 1-2 silver players each match.

I normally play with my friends (who are all silver/gold/platinum). I am convinced that playing with better players has indeed made me a better player. Some people are saying I should just figure out a champ to main, and then put a few hundred matches into him in normals until I've mastered him.

I'm concerned that playing normals will only bring down my skill level, and I'm better off getting demolished in ranked play because at least I'm gradually getting better at the game, despite how painful the process it is. I could of course be completely wrong about this.

I've decided to main jayce, however his glass-cannon status makes him extremely frustrating to play. When I show the slightest sign of weakness in my ranked matches I will immediately get 2-3 champions running up to top lane to gank me, which is hard to fight off for ANY player, regardless of skill. I know when getting ganked you are supposed to hug the tower but this doesn't tend to help me much against 3 champions all trying to nuke me.

In addition, people get extremely pissed off at me and tell me "to never play jayce again" or "to play an easier champion." The problem with "easier" champions like darius, is although they are EASIER to play and are far more tanky than Jayce, they lack jayce's ability to deal damage and get kills.

I feel like whenever playing easy champions, I end up NOT feeding, but not really helping my team either, which is quite a paradox.

I truly enjoy playing Jayce despite his weak defenses.

Right now my plan for Jayce is to continue maining him in ranked games. Thoughts?

Lastly, I struggle to get farm. I KNOW how to farm. I know about when to push out your lane and when not to push your lane. I know how to last hit. However, I consistently find myself lacking behind every other player in CS, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, tbh.

If you want, add me and lets play together. I'm in the same situation. I think playing with friend's and not complete strangers helps with keeping a healthy mentality and building better habits, whether it be on ranked or norms.

#1 tip: Don't make excuses. Don't be unnecessarily hard on yourself either, but be brutally honest. You haven't even placed yet; you could go 2-8 in placements and land in Silver 2. So don't limit yourself by implying you didn't stand a chance. You didn't win, and that reflects your current skill. That's all!

This one's largely mental. You could do the measurements yourself, but it would take a loooong time, and probably wouldn't be worth it. So just carefully ask yourself: Why do you want to play ranked, and why do you want to play normals? Assuming you're not getting boosted, playing ranked should not actually hurt your rank over the long run. So unless you're trying out something very different from what you're used to playing (like Aurelion Sol or Bard), what reason do you have to play normals? Is it that you don't want the stress? You can still practice tons of things in normals even if the games aren't as "serious" as ranked. Is it just that you want to be able to say you have a high win rate in ranked, so you would like to (if possible) do all your improvement in normals and then all your winning in ranked?

Just remember: you're doing this for your own fun. Don't be afraid to play ranked because others might say you're not good enough. Don't be afraid to play normals because others might say you're too wimpy for ranked.

This is the key. You're playing this game to have fun. Improving your rank is a secondary goal. You could be playing Nidalee or Azir or some other pretty weak champion, but you'd still have the most overall fun playing the champion(s) you enjoy the most. Some people enjoying switching to what they think is powerful at the time (Flavor of the Month chasers), and there's nothing wrong with that. But it sounds like that's not you. If a stranger tells you to never play Jayce again, click Mute. If a friend says that, come up with the appropriate way to say "STFU".

Watch your own games. Record a stream of yourself, or watch replays using something like replay.gg (or I heard the new client allows you to record stuff maybe?). When you're not actively playing, you should be able to see what you're doing "wrong". If your CS is low for "bad" reasons, you should be able to see yourself missing lots of last hits, or going B when you're going to lose two waves to tower, etc. You might also see yourself losing two waves of CS because you roamed mid to countergank and get a triple kill, which might be a "good" reason.

Having a high level player watch you and "coach" can help too. But you're only guaranteed to always have one person who is willing to watch your videos, and that's you.

Side note on this one. Try to get a nose for when this is happening. Then, when you know it's going to happen, you can tell the rest of your team to go get dragon, or 4 man gank bot lane and get 1-2 kills (+ tower) (+ dragon). There are times where you can't really do much (or at least mortals like us couldn't see what we should have done differently). But if you give your team time to take another objective, you can hope to come out even or ahead as a whole.
