idk if this is a poor choice, but I enjoy outranging/bullying my opponents. catch is, I never know exactly what to build at a specific moment, or wether or not to poke/engage. any help is much appreciated

lux is a control/burst mage ... who has range and poke...
she is weak vs hard engage if you miss Q dont pick /play with a team with no front line /peel cuz no one to stop them getting to you so you cant deal damage from afar
good with another range poke ( like a cait/ jhin type of adc ) where you have a good peel and front line for engage , she is typically bad vs gap closers /burst ( fizz, talon, zed etc )
Engage when you find the correct time, when someone steps out of position throw out your Q and let your team kill them. You can also just Q E ult onto the ADC or a fed squishy on their team whenever you want, just make sure you don't die because you got too close.
