How to go against darius in lane?

Kei143··2 votes·1,447 views

I always seem to have trouble going against darius in lane. Anyone give me some tips oh how to deal with him?

I can get inside his "tank zone" and attack him there, but I always end up loosing the trades cos of his passive stacking up.

When I try to run, he'll pull me back in and doing more dmg to me.

Tips please?

I mainly play Sion / Garen, and I'm a bronzie.

To beat Darius, do not play sion and garen. Those are two of the lowest-skill top laners (meaning you cant use superior skill to win lane, because it wont matter), and they have a horrible matchup against darius.

Your best bet is to just farm under tower from the start and ask for jungler help, if you feed him, he will just walk under tower, oneshot you, walk off, and repeat indefinitely.

Babo Migug1 votes

?? rofl this is some bronze advice. Take it from the top 1% of players "meaning you cant use superior skill to win lane, because it wont matter" what kind of dumb logic is that LOL.

Heres an actual tip that you can use that is actually logical. Wait for him to use his q and go in on him then back off. Bait out his q to do anything. Just farm up and wait for him to q as simple as that.

Sion? Low skill? Have you played him?

If you're against anyone with mobility and a few brain cells, you're going to have to time your Q and W very well. E is the only skillshot you are going to hit reliably, and it was nerfed so you can't just E-spam your way to winning lane.

Play someone with range.

Inadequate. You're failing to take into account apprehend. There are certain ranged champions that can kite him easily (lissandra/quinn/gnar) and there are certain ranged champions that can very easily get fucked by Darius even if they're ranged (Kayle/graves/new ryze).

At the end of the day **dueling **Darius should always be with caution.

Critmaster Garen2 votes

i dont know how to describe it better.

against darius as garen. just dont die. play it save, get him to push the lane and only fight him with your jungler.

darius is an early game counter to garen.

garen is a midgame counter to darius. darius wants to get rolling and rack up kills with chain dunks. when he does, he makes himself the villain and youre the failsafe for your team who can shut him down.

just dont die.

The biggest tip for going against Darius that applies to most top laners: Don't let him kill you

Do whatever it takes to make sure he doesn't ever kill you, even if it means you're going to lose a crapton of cs. Eventually he will fall off from not getting kills and you can come back lategame.

Also signal when he's missing because you wouldn't want him to kill the rest of your team while you're farming at tier 2 tower.

A farmed Darius is just as deadly as a no farm yet 10/1 Darius...

i can farm, but I can't deny him CS through zoning.

so .. it kidda doesn't work as well.

If you want to win vs Darius for free just play Pantheon.

His passive makes it possible to block 2 hemorrhage stacks so you can win extended trades, AND your Q is good for poke

Pantheon can only really lose lane to AP champs

SmileInABox1 votes

Pantheon is a decent matchup, only problem is that you really can't allow Darius to hit you and heal up. Pantheon excels at poking enemies down and tower diving when theyre low enough, if you can't dodge Darius spin the Counter Pick will be useless.

Straight up fucking fail. Stop lying.

Pantheon's passive only blocks the auto attack damage. Hemhorrage will still be applied by blocked Auto attacks and crippling strikes. Darius will always win an extended trade against pantheon.

Whenever pantheon goes in to throw his spear, Darius can simply step forward and trade with decimate. Darius wins these trades since he has better base stats and his decimate has a healing mechanic that Pantheon's spear doesn't have.

Post level 6 is permanently in Darius' favor unless he's retarded and feeds pantheon.

-Darius one trick who has played against a plethora of pantheons

No shit, you pretentious ass

http://imgur.com/QBvfQVJ (showing Darius' winrate)

In a matchup with evenly skilled players, Pantheon has the advantage

One-tricks are able to win in every matchup because they have more experience on their champ.

I one-trick Nami in Solo Q and I beat Blitzcrank all the time, even though Blitzcrank demolishes most Nami players.

Also

Darius will always win an extended trade against pantheon.

Darius wins every extended trade..... Pantheon goes in for short trades. Also it's not uncommon for Pantheon's to max E in a melee matchup. Pantheon should be able to easily out-trade Darius as long as he dodges Q (his passive shield still blocks crippling strike damage)

Dodging 2 auto attacks in a trade is nothing to sneeze at even if it still applies bleed. Pantheon can back away before it's fully stacked anyways.

Darius wins these trades since he has better base stats

This logic doesn't make sense. Doesn't matter if he has better base stats, Darius Q is relatively easy to dodge (worst case scenario, Pantheon W's to Darius for the reduced Q damage), meanwhile Pantheon has a point and click spell that does absurd damage early game. Also Pantheon takes Thunderlords for very effective early game poke (E hits 3 times for easy proc)

decimate has a healing mechanic

Good Pantheons take ignite. If they don't have ignite then they are playing Pantheon wrong.

Whenever pantheon goes in to throw his spear, Darius can simply step forward and trade with decimate

I wonder what horrible Pantheon players you go against, Darius' Q is so easily telegraphed and easy to dodge if you anticipate it. Once you dodge it you literally can't lose a trade against Darius as Pantheon.

Pantheon is still the king of first blood.

If you want me to use another example or if you don't want to rely on early game to beat Darius: Once Gnar completes Frozen Mallet it's almost impossible to lose in a 1v1 to Darius because you can kite him infinitely (unless the Gnar is terrible)

New Darius doesn't fall off as hard as you seem to think. And a farmed Darius is infinitely more useful than an unfarmed top laner. You can get by without missing too much cs. The trick is baiting out decimates so you can farm closer to your turret and using all your defensive tools to peel Darius off of you if he ever does get to engage in a duel. Simply backing off lane will put you way too far behind to ever be useful.

Basically, what you should do is bait out his Q.

That is his main damage and sustain. Once you take that out of the picture, small skirmishes. Extended fights will only get you killed.

Hemorage is very strong and deals an unexpected amount of damage.

So pick someone with mobility, ranged damages, and some form of escape. Vladimir Vladamir Is a good example. Also a good tip is that inside a Darius Q, he deals 50% less damage than the outside. So, with that being said, if you are going to fight him, stay as close to him as possible. Which that has its own benefits and disadvantages. Pick your battles wisely.

Also he doesnt have any form of escape so a CC gank and a lot of focus can hurt Darius a lot

"benefits and disadvantages"

The decision to facetank Darius outside his heal circle is dependent upon whether or not you have a significant advantage

Examples of significant advantage = (for burst champions) he is low enough to be bursted down

(for tanks) he has at least 1/4 the amount of health you currently have (unless he's near death and you can AA him a couple times to death) and he isn't fed/too far ahead of you

(For ADCs) why are you inside his Q anything range to begin with?

(For fighters) when you have health and damage advantage

etc.etc.etc.

THE ULTIMATE THING TO REMEMBER ABOUT ATTEMPTING THIS

You have to remember that** facetanking darius will deny him heals** but at the same time is a great way for you to VERY QUICKLY gain 5 stacks.

Quinn or Kayle, rush Phantom Dancer. Now you can permakite him with a 12% MS item. Somehow catches you? 12% damage reduction.

There's a reason why Jax is building PD.

12% damage reduction is nowhere near enough for someone as squishy as kayle or quinn to survive melee forming Darius.

Also, Phantom dancer is a shitty item to build on Kayle and a decent item to buy on Quinn.

Quinn has a bit easier time kiting than Kayle.

Here's the biggest problem with your assumptions.

Kayle empowered Auto attack range = 525

Quinn Auto attack range = 525

Darius Apprehend range = 550

Getting in range to harass Darius pre-phage should be a good 60% chance of you getting apprehended. Getting in range to Harass Darius post-phage should be a good 90+% chance of you getting apprehended.

Quinn can at least try and knock herself back with vault. Kayle just dies helplessly after melee forming Darius.

Wrong. Darius can simply walk away, and Illaoi has nothing in her kit to force him back to her after she uses ult.

Lol im bronze I always had the same problem. I took Jayce into Darius a couple days ago and he couldn't grab me (mostly stayed range in early game), poked him down with qe and w to get thunderlords off. Then we he was low enough I turned melee, killed him, and showed him who was boss in lane.

Jayce is a good counter to Darius. His knockback allows him to peel Darius off after he uses apprehend.

Play with some caution once Darius gets phage and you'll utterly destroy Darius 5/10 times, beat him 3/10 times, or go even with 2/10 times.

Not true. While ranged matchups are cancer, a very important factor is apprehend which can totally screw up the lane for the ranged. It becomes a game of baiting out apprehend in Darius's ranged matchups. The only time this may not be true is if you play a champion with asinine range like Caitlyn top but then you're denying your team a tank/bruiser/mid ranged mage or fighter.

don't fight him in lane. you can't deal with him in lane. unless he makes a mistake. or you play a direct counter which in this case champs that can kite him and not get close to him. him and renekton are very strong in lane

Darius naturally gives Sion and Gayren AIDS.

Sion's base HP is so low that Darius stat checks the living shit out of sion even in bad trades. Garen's stats are good but his kit makes him very susceptible to reengagements with apprehend and his passive is hard countered by hemhorrage which is an extremely long DoT that constantly resets the CD on perseverance.

As Sion you basically have to cede a good amount of farm and allow yourself to get pushed to turret. Your Q and E should allow you to farm relatively well even under turret. Be especially careful as sion since apprehend will interrupt your Q mid channel. Play safe until you reach level 6. At 6, you should be able to surprise Darius if your jungle decides to help. Never duel Darius, ever, even when you start to become tanky you simply do not have the damage to kill Darius and once he gets noxian might you will most likely die.

In teamfights as sion you want to do what you do best. Disrupt the living shit out of Darius and make sure he never gets the chance to walk up to your back line. Your E will slow him and once his pull is on CD you can fully charge Q to your heart's content. You usually are able to out-tank Darius (be careful about letting him get free healing with his decimate, Darius' biggest form of sustain) so as long as you can peel for your carries you should be fine. Use your shield to disrupt Darius getting an ultimate reset if you find yourself getting low.

As Gayren you bend over and take it. No seriously. Play safe early game, get a cloth and 5 pots or dorans shield and one pot. Don't let him get free decimates. If he happens to pull you in, immediately activate courage and use decisive strike to silence him and GTFO. Make sure that Darius can only get on to you with apprehend. If he is allowed to use apprehend as a REENGAGE tool INSTEAD of an ENGAGE tool you will die/be forced to back off lane entirely.

Late game you do what Gayren seems to do best, soak up a crap ton of damage and try to run at the backline to hopefully get an execute. If the Darius is the villain then your life is pretty easy since you can full focus him and get a huge execute. If Darius is not the villain then your life will probably suck since Darius can pretty much infinitely peel you off his backline with apprehend and crippling strike.

TL;DR

Sion is a lot better since you have a more impactful late game against Darius and his team than you do as Gayren. Hopefully Gayren gets a buff or another mini rework.

Play Jayce or Karma, poke him to death. If he gets near you W with karma or E with Jayce. Rip Darius, he has to push cause he wont be able to farm with auto attacks for free because of pokes or he let you push and you poke him under turret. There are some melees that has a chance against him in lane, Renekton, Jarvan with Q pokes and a really strong all ins and can create gank set up, Shen if you can get sunfire, Irelia you have to sheen into sunfire, Illaoi cause he just outdamage him. But even then like I said, they have a CHANCE of beating him, but hes still really hard to beat no matter what if youre a melee champion. Have to diverse your champion pool buddy.
