They can't do that though because they aren't a skill shot, they have to zig-zag around the terrain.
That's why he said the maximum distance. You could easily show a circle representing the farthest a ghost could possibly travel.
They did it with Sion's ult. If he turns during his ult, he won't reach the edge of the indicator, but it still shows the maximum possible distance.
the ghost distance isn't in an area its distance traveled.
Yes, but there is a maximum distance that they can travel - a certain number of units they travel from where you activate the item. They can show that as a circle on the minimap with a radius of that many units. Again - Sion's ult works in exactly the same way. You will travel a certain distance (a specific number of units) at the most, but it still has a circle showing you the maximum possible distance.
Basically, just a circle on your minimap that shows "If the ghosts were to travel in a perfectly straight line down a lane, this is the farthest they could go."
you don't understand.
The ghosts will travel a specific distance - say something like 3000 units. Whether they travel 3000 units in a straight line, or travel in a zig-zag for 3000 units and only end up 1000 units away from their starting position, they have still traveled 3000 units. Show a circle on the minimap with a radius of 3000 units. That is the absolute farthest the ghosts could possibly travel under the best circumstances.
Like I have said in every comment previously - Sion's ult works exactly the same, and they show a circle for him. He will travel a specific number of units, and if he turns and wiggles around in the jungle or turns into the river, he won't reach the edge of the circle. But they still show it because it helps give an idea of how far you can go.
Showing the ghost maximum radius would simply help people get a better feel for "If I know they are outside this radius, there is no point in using the ghosts." They would still have to estimate how effective it would be due to the twisting and turning in the jungle, but it would help give a general idea of - again - the maximum possible distance under the best circumstances.
If they zig-zag AT ALL, their displacement vector would be shorter than the radius of the range indication circle, which is extremely misleading.
While it would be misleading, considering how much impact terrain has, it would be better than nothing. So putting a range would help players estimate. Like Zz'rot Portal. I do not know why people are down voting you. You haven't given an opinion on this issue. You merely stated an insightful fact that dissents with the popular opinion "a range indicator should be implemented to this item". Biases seems to be more important than giving constructive feedback from what I have seen. Though there are still good out there. What a shame.
Sion's ultimate is expected to charge in a straight line because it is even hard for him to turn.
Ghosts are expected to turn around corners because you're rarely using them to scout straight down a lane towards someone you already see.
They might work very similarly, but the expectation on use is very different. You can check Sion's ult range to see when you can run down the lane with him, because that's what you expect to do - but if you look at ghosties max range, you're probably looking at its range into the jungle because that's where you likely have the least vision - and it's also where the ghosties range will be most misleading.
They do it for zzrot.
Zz'rot is easier to measure because it has a set path.
Spoopy ghost knife changes based on nearby champs.
Also it's not very accurate :/ We can probably add a range to FQC, but it'll just be a ballpark estimate.
Bump. This needs to happen.
