The reason why the new AP items seem weaker...

Is because Riot is clearly playing it safe, at least in my opinion.

The marksmen patch wasn't the most well done patch, to say the least. It got a ton of hate from every man, woman and child. Why? Because the weapons were overtuned, overpowered. Of course, Riot would go on to adjust and nerf accordingly and the community eventually grew accustomed to seeing Graves , but I'm sure it still left a sour taste in Riot's metaphorical mouth.

And right now, Riot is doing the exact opposite. All the items are now underpowered, and this is probably on purpose. It's the same thing you guys, but reversed. They'll eventually buff the items accordingly, but they're trying to keep everyone satisfied.

Then again, I may just be wrong.

I have said this in a bunch of different threads already. But, we don't have the stats of the mages in this update. Even if the itemization alone would be objectively a Nerf, changes to champion kit's might make them way more responsive to these items. And it's important to consider this, because Riot will be balancing champion in that context.

I think they might lower ap ratios on items, but up the ap scaling on dedicated mids. Would be a nerf to the APC supports going dcap/flat ap items as it makes gold matter more to your damage output. Could be wrong, just something that i feel might happen given that last time they increased base AD for adcs but Nerf their ad per level to make them more dependent on items, most of which got buffs and there was also a handful of shiny new toys. Anyhow if they want ap items to matter more for mages but not supports that's how i see them doing it.

They just need to increase alot of mage ap ratios, tanks and some supports won't need ratio increase to compensate but mages should.
