The phrase, “League is dead” is getting kind of old now.

The entire team··18 votes·7,889 views

Many people have said this time and time again, from League haters to analysts. Here’s the thing:

They said that DOTA will kill it, and yet here it still stands. They said that Overwatch will be more popular, yet here it is. They said DOTA 2 will kill it harder, and yet LoL still stands prouder. They said PUGB will snipe it down, but looked here, the MOBA is still goin. They said Fortnite is destroying League by more than half its viewers and profits, but that proved to be false (thanks Ninja). They said Battlerite is the tidal wave that will wash League away from the annals of history, but that certainly didn’t keep LoL down.

League isn’t going to die any time soon. Rather, it is changed, always shifting. Not necessarily evolving, but transforming its own fundamentals. It has been with the world for so long, it has become its own culture.

And trust me, culture is harder than anything to suppress.

Game is getting worse though. Hard to say it isn't.

That's just personal preference. I enjoy faster paced games (even though I'd like to go back to the S4/S5 style) so this isn't worse for me.

Killing off late game champions isn't worse? Nerfing jungle? Letting bad people dictate games? People abusing the fact Riot takes to long to punish griefers? MMR being worse?

Idk what game you been playing but it isn't league.

First of all, I said I'd like to go back to the S4/S5 place of the game.

Like I said though, it's personal preference. You may not enjoy the game but that doesn't mean it's objectively worse because other people do enjoy the game.

Your opinion isn't law just like my opinion isn't law.

S5 WAS ABOUT LATE GAME.

The hell you talking about? S5 was also around tanking. Which is how we got to late game.. We are polar opposite now.

Dude, are you reading what I'm saying?

I liked the slower pace of the game, I started playing in S4 so I would like to go back to the game I started with. I would prefer it, honestly.

I'm saying that you and I don't speak for everyone, our opinions don't mean a game is objectively good or bad because other people have other tastes and like the state of the game. I don't fully hate it myself.

You are contradicting yourself. It's either getting worse or it isn't.

Hotarµ13 votes

You... can like two different things? Since when do you have to hate one thing because you like another?

It would be a totally different scenario if I said: "I love late game champions, I'm so glad games end faster now!" but I'm not saying that. I enjoy two wholly different entities in their entirety, I'm not picking and choosing what minute differences I like from one version and applying it to the other.

I prefer the older state of the game but I don't despise the new state of the game. I like pasta with red sauce but I don't dislike pasta with white sauce. You can enjoy something and not hate the other. Not everything has to be some polarizing display of hatred and loathing.

It's not about liking two different things. It's about one being worse. You are arguing one is not worse than the other. I suggest otherwise while you contradict yourself. Just because you like something doesn't make it good as a whole nor does it mean the majority of the community loves the current state of imbalance this cancer has become.

I don't give a damn if you like the current game. It's about one being worse. They both cannot be on the same plane. L2R.

The contradiction is when you suggested you liked both but prefer S4-5. You clearly think one is better than the other. Considering they are also polar opposites, it's hard to believe you are not just typing just to type about liking both if you want to continue down the 'like' road rather than the actual 'worse or better' road.

You need an obvious example?:

Just because I might like paper bags for groceries doesn't make them better for wet, damp, and moist products. Just because maplestory exists on phone and computer doesn't mean the phone version runs smoother than the pc version.

"Just personal preference."

LMFAO. Ignorance is bliss on what you say.

She needs her R to abuse her "Massive buff" then. Nasus...

Well I told people this would happen if people wanted his stacking mechanic. Anything bad that can happen WILL happen. It was just a matter of time for him. Waiting for Veigar next.

If they want to keep the game the way it is, they have to buff the early game of them. Meanwhile, stacking armor and MR, and hypercarries like Ashe and Kog'maw are in a bad state. Jax never needed more than one item from my knowledge. Irelia has been changed completely and patched almost 24/7 since her rework, so I don't know at what patch you are coming from with her.

Z3Sleeper1 votes

Jax always relied on a single item that costs 3733g. So yes, he had a bad early game. Still does but it's so glossed over now.

Isn't he mid game by that logic then? I am talking LATE GAME.

Ashe Twitch KogMaw Azir Vayne are examples

Only two in there are in a decent spot, because of indirect buffs or early game buffs. In fact, these are more hyper-carry than anything for most (if not all) of them.

Z3Sleeper2 votes

It was mid game where he stopped being ass (after tri). Late game was when he carried after getting more items.

He used to be far more item reliant.

Before those, the ol' Tri + Gunblade.

Nerfing jungle is never a bad thing

Until you punish them for actually playing the game it should instead of afk farming computerized monsters. God forbid you try to go for the enemy Nexus. Now that would be a bad idea.

League just draws people back in, one way or another. Many people "hate" it, yet they play 20+ games a week. I think most people just love running their mouth on the Internet, as everybody likes to do.

ModKnightsKemplar5 votes

This. It became mainstream, so now it's "cool" to hate on it.

There are definitely issues, as I think anyone (including Riot themselves) will admit, but it's not dying.

Valknut9 votes

People said Wow is dying around the end of wrath, it may have taken a while but the game has changed in ways that put off a lot of its old core players. League is doing this faster then WoW ever could.

Z3Sleeper1 votes

There's just no good long-lasting alternative for me yet. I've played all the other popular games but they just don't have the same replay value imo.

Just waiting until something finally does.

Dota was a mod for wc 3. Dota was the base for all modern Mobas, especially for LoL, because it developed, useing the bases of dota. Some dota programmers had the idea to make lol. Pls dont act like LoL was here before Dota was... Dota btw has no balance issues at all, there are no 0.01 s oneshots, no champs that serve no counterplay and espeically no Lethality. Hopefully the playerbase will come back to dota, as soon as the wc3 rework dropps. Ppl will realise that the perfect moba is out there and it isnt called LoL. Tbh lol wont stand a chance.

Not necessarily evolving, but transforming its own fundamentals

Proof that the game is dead, because it no longer exists anymore.

Just like WoW the game will have players for years to come, but can you really call it the same game after SO much of the fundamental design of the game has changed? Even if it superficially shares the same art assets and style.

xDelightifyx1 votes

I agree in every point. Since season 7 LoL does feel like its LoL 2 now.

I feel like hating on League has become like hating on Nickelback. You're hard pressed to find anyone that will openly say anything good about Nickelback, but they're still one of the best selling bands.

Nameless Drifter3 votes

League is not dead, but its walking into its own grave by Riot own incompetence and stubborness.

Dota2 may not have killed League, but Dota2 evolves and improves itself despite all these years. They listen to feedback. While Riot is slacking, showing lazyness and creating this feeling of abandonment towards the community.

Any other game doesnt matter. They are different genres, different market, thus they are not part of this equation.

League isnt going to die, but its becoming more and more like a lost cause, doomed to fall on its own greed.

Leetri2 votes

Sorry but Dota 2 is dropping too. They've lost 1/3rd of their peak players since 2016 when it was the most popular, as well as 1/3rd of their average player numbers. By comparison League's been growing all that time and only recently dropped about 1/5th of their players, they still have over 10 times as many players as Dota 2 though. The only way League will die is the day Riot says they're done with the game and are closing the servers.

xDelightifyx1 votes

better to be stunned for 9s, than to be oneshot in less than 0.25s with no counterplay at all. Dota may has a questionable balancing phylosophy, but its a billion times better than the biased shit riot is doing. If something is going wrong in Dota, they are listening to the community and they will fix the problem. Does Riot do anything similar? No, all they are doing are irrational and biased changes.

people have been saying that league is dying since season 2... when the game actually dies is when i'll believe that league is dead. People saying "league is dying/dead" got old a long time ago yet they keep spewing the exact same thing over and over. Then again some crazy person could preach about how a meteor is going to hit our planet every day of his life and then pretend that he was right all along when by some miracle a meteor does hit the planet at some random point in the future so whatever
