Mordekaiser's popularity is due to the rework

It's not that he's overpowered. It's that he as a champion is absolutely gnarly. He's thematically fulfilling, he's satisfying, everything about him feels good, from the autoattack noises to the recall animation. It's pure METAL and the entire Pentakill band was based around him, if you guys are surprised by a 90%+ presence in games after his rework then you don't know what hype is.

people only play champions if they are strong and forgiving.

i personally only play champions I like the personality of or the play style, or champions that are seen as weird in the jungle role that end up being meta (did camille jungle b4 it was a thing).

Nah, everyone plays the new champ

Even Yuumi before the hotfix overbuff, and Ornn before the buffs had massive playrates because they were new

You basically lost every game you picked them in since they were awful, but they still had a godly play rate

i personally plan on playing a lot more morde now that he doesn't feel nearly as bad in poor situations

or, you know, one of the most anticipated reworks throughout league history was mordekaiser getting an update and Malicious Metal whipping everyone in to a frenzy over it with his teasing threads? but of course, popularity via hype and anticipation is a myth and everybody collectively together without seeing ratios or much gameplay decided "mordekaiser is broken we all must play him". that seems logical. the league community is very organized, you're right

This. Sure, he's STRONG, but he's by no means OP. I personally love the theme of mordekaiser, but I didn't like the look and abilities of pre rework that much. New Morde just feels so damn good, it's great. I usually am not a big juggernaught fan, but holy hell I love this champ now.
