I think that people should try playing champions for a few games before complaining.

Some of the complaints I see on this board just outright tell me that they have never played the champion they are talking about.

It's much easier to see weaknesses if you're the one playing them; I think it's worth a try.

I think they need to have at least level 1 mastery of the champ to play them in ranked.

several problems with your idea

First you act like a new person is going to grasp the champ and play correctly in less than 10 games. Their failures to preform do not mean champ is not to strong

second the fallacy that the players of x champ are not blinded to their champ. Example skanner rework on PBE and tester reactions

third you assume that people that do not own or play X are wrong. They may not like the style of said champ, that does not take away from the strengths of it.

Have you heard of the saying, "Don't criticize a man till you've walked a mile in his shoes"?

So you go to the OP's house, put his shoes on, then walk for a mile. Then you can criticize him.

I used to think Nasus was a broken monstrosity. Then I played about 40 games with him and I'm convinced that he sucks ass except in very specific situations, and then he's extremely dominant. Enemy team picked low dps mid and adc? Lock in Nasus and enjoy the free win.

As for Riven, after playing her, I have to say that she's definitely not nearly as strong as most people would like to think. Against good opponents, Riven feels honestly quite weak and lord help you if you're against a Garen, Renekton, or Irelia that actually knows what they're doing. For all the talk of how safe Riven is, I honestly feel pretty vulnerable when playing her and prefer easier, more reliable champions. I've had some games where I've stomped with Riven as well but I've had plenty more where the entire game is just a struggle to do anything whatsoever. Same with Vayne honestly. Even Yasuo took a solid 100 games or so before I really felt any sense of comfort when playing the champion and I often still feel uneasy in harder matchups even after 800 games with him.

i hated zed and yasuo for the longest time i bought the 2 champions right before i was about to make a QQ thread tested them didn't get absolutely rekt but if they are shut down early on there dmg is nonexistant zed hates any kind of tank preitem 3071 /item 3035 yasuo hates point and click justice since the entire point of his laning phase is to dodge most skills and deal some dmg i never hated those champions again since that day

So to say whether a champion that you're 90% sure is OP, you have to save up IP for a month just to prove a point you already thought correct and leave the champion in the bottom of your pool, never touched again?

So to say whether a champion that you're 90% sure is OP

Where is this supposed statistic coming from if you haven't even played the champion in question?

Let's say Riven, for example. You know that all you have to do to play Riven is smash your face on the keyboard and then you get a pentaskill (Before trying her), but to try her, you need to scrimp and save 4800 IP, about a month's worth, just to reaffirm a thing that you already knew?

lostbob1172 votes

Except for the fact that you don't know. Based on what you're saying. Riven isn't even that good atm.

It was just an example

Lady Hammerlock1 votes

the closest thing to a buff for her were the tank item changes higher costs on armour and lower armour given

IcyPepper2 votes

If you can't play the champion because reasons (like IP costs), at least back up your claims with some evidence.

Generalizations don't count.

Let me guess, free week rotation is "against the rules cause I say so"?

You could easily end up waiting months for that

My favourite has been:

(Misquoted) Essentially what they said was: 'Fiora's passive is too strong and needs to be gutted. It deals 2000+ damage every teamfight and you can't stop her.'

Fiora is strong but this is hilariously exaggerated.

Lady Hammerlock1 votes

not completey i think they say 2000 is because there is almost no point in building armour against late game fiora since her true dmg +her own auto dmg can do 1/4 a tanks health per strike

Sire Hippington1 votes

http://champion.gg/champion/Fiora, Fiora statistically deals about 75% physical, wouldn't say armor is pointless vs her...

Slamurai Jack1 votes

And Vayne deals 78% Physical damage and Yi deals 70% Physical damage. Not that those numbers matter though. "True damage no counterplay so OP!"

What if you play the champ and you see no real weakness besides you own shotcomings? i.e. I have played Ahri Ahri (I have even taken her into ranked once or twice) the only real shortcoming i saw with her was that she was a tad mana hungry, and it was just a tad, I have seen other mids with far more mana problems. And even the mana problems was my fault due to being used to play champions that are not required to do constant damage (tanks, supports) If I were to practice mana managements I were to pretty much overcome that weakness and have one of the safest laning phase as a mid... On teamfights I also noticed that unless you charm the right target is hard to focus your damage on a specific target without messing up your positioning but you can always just do all your damage to closer target and they will most likely melt as well.

2000boxes1 votes

that's wishful thinking you and i both know that people will just make an excuse that goes along the lines of,"hur durr Sorry but i no need to play no skill braindead champion to know they kill me with unskilledness."

Snowball4u1 votes

Naw man

Look at their stupid "proof" of the champion being op. They literally say "omg irelia so op, 15 damage every auto attack oooooopppp"

They arent saying anything useful other than stats copied from lolwiki.

Not to mention a champion cant be statistically unbalanced, unless of course the numbers are 2-3 times higher then they should be, or they have good stats with an overloaded kit.

(Ex. Ekko if he had more damage and higher ratios on his abilities)

This is why A.I. games exist but people just abuse it for IP. Honestly you shouldn't earn IP from A.I. games after level 20 and it should have Mejai's and Occult removed from it... takes the whole 'learning the basic skill mechanics' from it when you have an overfed Zed rampaging every lane.

I've played Vayne a total of 8 games and I'll tell you this: She's fun as hell, but unfair. I've lost half my games as her, BUT have only broke even or gone negative in KD in 2. Lost one because Karma pokes hard as hell. But in all, she is pretty broken. hit 2 autos, roll, hit a 3rd and chunk em for a bonus 100 at level 2, more or less. god forbid they go near a wall. auto, roll, auto, e, proceed to get free autos. roll occasionally to avoid any other enemies and get more damage. I've played yasuo a great deal more. I suck ass as him. I see his weakness, but his strengths, goddamn it's retarded how much they shine. dueling with him as easy. however, im not used to melee champs that dont have many forms of escape, or health for that matter, so i got caught out way too many times. but fuckitall if he catches you out. 50% more damage than a sated yi, all from autos. yi cant meditate because not only does yasuo hit for more than it heals, he has a knock up that disrupts it. I've tried many of the champions I say are bullcrap, and i stand by 80% of my claims.

Played swain for first time, was just farming and the poking a little bit when enemy would come up. Hit lvl 9 with a decent amount of farm. Jungler and support came to help mid, used ult and bird puke Lazer and got a triple kill. Late game I would just walk into the enemy team and spam emotes then zhonyas when I was low. Wasn't fun and I still dislike swain, unless it's swain jungle.
