Can certain shop items and skins be achievable through ranks or wins?

Seeing these new project skins makes me think of a problem. There's some people who would have bought the project zed or yasuo skin if they were playing league at that time, but because they only started after or came back after that sale, they missed out on the icon as well as other retired skins that year. But, if they're a good player and it's their favorite champion, why shouldn't they get a chance to unlock it?

If some things could be available for a champion or icon after getting a certain number of wins or being in a certain high enough rank or having a high enough win rate with a specific champion, it would motivate people to play more and and actually win, and it would be something people would have fun showing off and also potentially give people a chance to earn otherwise unobtainable skins, like legacy/retired skins or project icons after the sale ends.

Ever hear of the Victorious champion/ward skin series?

I use it every time I play sivir, but that's still beside the point, I'm talking about a repeatable way to earn those skins, not just one time with one rank quota where it is thereafter discontinued. If you get to gold or platinum once, why not just get all the victorious skins? How is it your fault that you didn't find out about league until a year or few after its release?

To show off you got it in that season. It would be a spit in the face to every player who has gotten that high, every season to earn those skins.

But it doesn't matter when you got it because ranks always reset. Since you have to continuously play games and maintain your rank, it's not a spit in the face in any way, it's a tribute to that fact.

I would beg to differ on all accounts. It is not a tribute in any way. They earned the skins through hard work in pervious seasons, and deserve to show off their hard work. And yes, ranks to reset, but basically everyone who got to higher ranks gets back to them, and, again, the fact they get to show off their hard work previously is big. How would you feel if you worked your ass off for 5 seasons to get every victory skin, and some guy bets boosted to gold or get's gold then just stops playing for the rest of the season, and boom, they have every skin you worked for?

But everything you're saying completely undermines the fact that coincidentally happening to be around at a particular season doesn't mean there aren't millions of players who did just as much or even more work. Also, being boosted doesn't have anything to do with this because I'm only referring to players who are actually good with their champ. How would I feel if another good player made it to a high rank? I'd say "welcome to the club bb" or "let's make a team with all victorious skins!"

Better yet, how about the higher your rank, the further back you earn victorious skins.

I just don't agree. There is a credit that has to be given to players who have played for awhile. That is why I hate that they made most icons permanent. People who have played for awhile should feel like they have something on newer palyers. They have played longer, and they earned them. People who just start, shouldn't just be able to get what people earned 5 years back. It doesn't make sense. A what rank you get to doesn't mean anything, people who are high enough to have gotten the previous ones, are still there, and the people who are high enough now, still have at least three years back worth of victory skins. Eventually, you will as well.

People who have played for awhile should feel like they have something on newer palyers.

And why exactly should we encourage some delusion of superiority and false sense of entitlement? Besides, there's people who have been playing 2-3 years who are bronze, there's people who have been playing 1-2 years who make it to diamond. If people did the work then they did the work, it doesn't matter when it happened.

It does however. The victorious skins are a shout out to who had the most impact on their seasons, and new player shave no memory of the seasons that they were created for.

But it doesn't for multiple reasons: -There's 100+ champions most of which are played at LCS and every other rank, there's no way anyone can say a single champion had the most impact in such a general sense. -Champions get buffed and nerfed or reworked every season, why don't we just bring back old poppy as a shoutout then? -Most people play the champs they like or are most comfortable with regardless of which champ happens to have the highest win rate anyway, and that win rate definitely changes over the course of a season. -Not everyone even watches a single LCS game so who's going to understand a shoutout out of the millions of players who are in gold and below who don't even care about high elo? -A lot of people only play ranked to get season rewards, that's why there's more people in Gold V than Silver I and more people in Diamond V than Platinum I. With that said, if there were better rewards, more people would play more matches.

The bottom line is it would make more people happy than unhappy by a large margin. It's only a small percent of people who are trolls and say "refund that skin plz you're noob"

I think a larger portion, actually don't give two shits if they get them or not, and would rather get Project Skins, and skins for champs they play on a regular basis.

Exactly, those people who play champions they like on a regular basis don't give two shits what season it is. It doesn't matter what season it is, everyone has champs they like and play on a regular basis.

because this is a free to play game in a capitalist system. skins are literally just a fresh coat of paint, it's completely unecessary. I care more that the yasuo got a penta and solo carried the game then that he had project yasuo

But if they don't make money then there's no free-to-play game.

Exactly. That's why the skins are there as a pretty painting, useless but flashy. RIOT get's money from the skins, riot keeps the game FTP, riot keeps the skins costing money. boom.

You can't buy victorious skins. This would be for specific skins and some niche items and icons, not every skin.

Marshbouy1 votes

They already have that. The skins wouldn't be very high quality either to make the buyable ones still worth it. 975 RP level skin max.

Zelnick1 votes

{quoted}

They already have that.

But see they kinda don't because there's nothing in the shop that says "you must have this many wins with this champion unlock this skin." They also wouldn't have to eliminate buying the skin, they could simply make the criteria "you must have this many wins to buy this skin."

Marshbouy1 votes

That rewards long time players and not skilled players-not a good idea. That puts a gate on being able to buy things. You do not want that in a capitalist system.

So then you agree that we should have victorious skins or possibly other skins be available to anyone at any time, as I suggested before, and not just one time for one given year.

Marshbouy1 votes

it's at one time and every year. It makes sense because it's the reward you get for staying at a said elo. if you get placed and gold and drop ranks down to s5 then you don't deserve the skin. If you place s5 and climb to gold then you deserve the skin.

You don't give out the medals until the race is over.

Uh, because the border was meant to show they got it early? Or like with the current system, they're dedicated to getting it through a stupid system of wasting tons of RP and gambling on the chances you'll get enough components.

But so what if they got it early? That doesn't mean a later player doesn't like that champion or isn't good with them.

"That doesn't mean a later player doesn't like that champion or isn't good with them." So what? That's not the point of the border.

So what? Early isn't the point of the border either, it's that you were dedicated enough to the champion to jump at that opportunity to get the whole package for that skin. Problem is, dedication isn't dependent on only one sale of time.

Astôlfo1 votes

Uh, yeah, early was the point of the border. That's why they gave it to anyone who got it early. Dedication didn't matter a shit.

Wrong, if that was true then skins wouldn't have different pricing and categories. They think selling it as a limited edition makes them more money by making it more rare because they know more of the people who main that champion would be willing to buy the skin with that extra border. Different pricings and cooler skins exist to allow people of different levels of dedication to purchase something. No different than how airlines cater to different levels of demand by selling tickets at different times in advance, the cheapest tickets being months in advance and the most expensive being days or hours in advance.
