Morello's "prophecy" on Darius current state

Hello! Huge Darius fan here. I play with Darius since his release date. Got like 1m points and over 5k total ranked games. It's kinda normal for me to complain about the champion I like all over the place. But since juggernaut update I got feeling that something went completely wrong. They let us Dariusmains some late game damage, some special and unique style. Somehow with this update we got even more hate by low elo players/higher elo players for maining this champion.

I decided to make some research about it. What went wrong about all this so called juggernaut update. They were promissing us to rework Darius since august 2012. Then he got suddenly nerfed (patch 3.03 qq) as a temporary solution. I do remember old times. That was indeed painful for enemy toplaners. The only thing they could do is not feeding Darius in lane. I waited 3 freaking years untill Riots finally made it. Bu-ut what did we get? 90% banrate, even more complains and totally the same thing about "just try to not make mistakes against him and kite". I thought that was missunderstanding of goals. Rework in a wrong direction. But nah. I just found this thread: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/live-gameplay/r89emjEv-lets-talk-about-darius?show=flat

Oh come on guys! Seriously they ruined Darius potential just because few people told them to design him around punishing mistakes buisness. He's getting all the hate not because he was badly designed. "Scaling mostly with the badness of enemy" seriously? You did it on purpose? He was never ment to be reliable and viable pick in higher elo. People trashtalking me during championselect for playing my main and they're goddamn right about it. I used to think that its all about bad rework. Now I see. This is so annoying when you can't influence to the game just because enemies aren't bad enough (lmao this even sounds retarded!!!). Just woaw. I'm not even mad. Just dissapointed.

P.S Do not say about his "okay current state". It's freaking not. Sure thing there's much worse examples Mordekaiser Galio. But rly? Doing such desicion just because few guys on boards realised Darius identity as a punisher. Just... Gr-r. I'm not even talking about latest nerf. So people were getting punished for playing bad and Riots recided to tone down him for it? I beg you give him some real role. Useful role for the teamplay. Not walking meatwall that gets kited all day long untill someone allows him to stack the passive.

IMO Darius is way healthier since the rework, and way more viable in high elo His rework made him going from no counterpick in lane to countered by burst champ+mobile champ+ranged champ

In teamfight there is way more outcome than "getting kited" you can heal off a tank, or dunk a tank thanks to your team and use your teamplay to profit from CC

I'm pissed off about his "punishing nature" being actual part of his "identity", not failed rework thing. By the way you can't just heal off a tank since there are no tanks current meta. Only squshy burst guys like Kha, Graves etc. Juggernaut update appeared during end of season 5. When adc/apc and other classes had really low dmg output. Sure thing juggernauts were raping people around. Then they nerfed juggernauts to the ground (so pre-rework classes would have equal chances) and then... reworked adc, mages and then assassins. So in new balance juggernauts became weaker than newcomers. Bow down to Riots logic

you can heal off the frontline, if they have no frontline they will lose against darius, sure you can kite him but your team will die quickly by his own backline

His "punishing nature" is actually not his identity, morello failed right there

darius identity is being a melee carry that's all. He brings damage to his team and exchange range for durability and tankiness

I remember how their Braum carried the game just by letting me to stack 4 red things and then... he just flashed away from me. So I wasted like 10 seconds on stacking for nothing. Easy to cockblock. Also current dmg output is absurd. So your heal doesnt matter now

say what you will, he still won't get buffed. I suspect he'll recieve a few more nerfs actually.

OK, say it in english next time

Im not asking for buffs. Just change his toolkit which isnt healthy for Darius himself this time.

this kind of champions, their way to avoid "counterplay" is to be enabled by their team mates. to have CC landing on your targets, and to receive speed boosts from the utility of your team.

if you do not have enough support from your team, there is no one to land CC for you, there is no one to give you the sweet zoom zoom than you are going to have a hard time.

This is what makes him unreliable

This is what makes him unreliable

we should be so lucky as to have every champion possess an equivalent unreliability, else we end up with champions who have the reliable ability to win the game.

Yep, Darius is absolutely pure garbage in High elo if he doesn't have a team to tank/bait for him to get 5 stacks or depending if the enemy pick low mobility champ without cc.

I'd really like if riot reworked him again.

I'd also glady prefer having his q instant again and not have a heal.

I totally agree with this

the original Idea of 'Darius punishes mistakes' was not just that he punished enemy mistakes really hard by being a swift and accurate fighter in playstyle, his own mistakes were also punishable just as much because he was the only melee champion with no in-kit tankiness, sustain or mobility

and to me that was one of the coolest things about him, not the 'ult resets on kills so if your teammate kills the target you're ulting at 4 stacks you don't get your passive proc and lose the game because of it' that we have now :S

Being some1 who never played Darius but usually got to play against him I have developed the vision that Darius should be the not-so-tanky-not-so-squishy juggernaut that stays in the fight with the frontliners weakening the enemies untill he can score a kill.

Inb4 "That's all Juggernauts design", no1 but Darius has both the damage potential and the executionary ult. Garen is more about controlling the fight and still dealing some damage, Morde IS the frontline forever advancing which will kill you the more you stay, Illaoi is the diver of the bunch and other Juggernauts have different scale of damage compared to what Darius should have. Note: I didn't include all the Juggernauts, I just pointed out the heaviest damage dealers.

A champion whose only designated weakness is being kited is condemned to only punishing mistakes because the perfect player will outplay every time.

Are you really using a dev's rhetoric from 3 years ago to make a point about Darius' current state?

Riot's perception about Darius obviously changed since then.

Nothing have changed.

I've seen a Darius build Black Cleaver into Mortal Reminder and not get oneshot.

Base stats for juggernauts should not be too high, as they should be low enough to encourage them to buy defensive items. It really unbalances them against melees, because it's pretty impossible for them to kite him, especially a Darius. But then there's the problem of dying too quickly in teamfights.

It's like this.

You give juggernauts high base damage because they should be building tanky. You also slap on good scalings for who knows why. Then you give them high base defensive stats, because or else they die too quickly in teamfights.

But now they have no reason to build tanky against melees, and get these incredible base damages with lots of AD/AP which they scale super well off of (I never understood why they did that, tbh. All juggernauts have incredible scalings, last I checked. E.g, Shyvana's Q has a nearly identical scaling/base damage to Kha'Zix's isolated Q)

However this is really only a problem with Darius in my experience, all the other juggernauts are squishy as hell without at least semi-defensive items. But then I've seen Darius get Bork and Mortal Reminder and still not be super squishy.
