How to beat down a Yasuo easily

afmghost··9 votes·2,068 views

Yasuo may seem tenacious with his double crits, his wall that blocks attacks, and his ult and knockup combo. I can, however, say that even a ranged mage can win if they know what to do. So read this, and save your ban for someone else.

If you are against a Yasuo, keep these in mind.

  • Windwall can only deflect missiles. This includes ranged spells and attacks that travel from the caster to the destination. If your attack is melee, or if your spell hits the target without having to travel, it cannot be blocked. This actually makes Karthus a good counter to him.
  • Windwall also has a long cool down (30 seconds, give or take). Once he uses it, attack!
  • His knockup requires two successful strikes with his Q to get a shot to use it. If he has his ult and you see wind surrounding him, keep away until he either uses it or until it goes away. Since he only has a window of a few seconds, you won't lose too much time.
  • He's actually pretty fragile. A strong DPS champion like Yi or an assassin like Zed can potentially tear Yasuo to pieces.
  • If his passive barrier is up, use weaker attacks to force it out. Once his passive is down, then unleash your stronger attacks and combos. This means wait before you ignite.

Yasuo is a bronze stomp champion (no offense). If you keep these in mind, the stomper may become the stomped!

Yasuo was my most killed champion in season 7 according to that end of season stats thing. I main Vel'Koz btw.

He's still my most hated champ. Like yeah he's not strong right now, and I don't really lose to him much anymore, but as far as like how much I enjoy the game when he's on the other team, well not very much. It's like I have to do all this stupid bullshit just to play around his abilities and play the game.

He can be a frustrating opponent, especially in the hands of a skilled player. Since Private Joker wanted to flame this thread, can you do me a favor and try my tactics next time you are matched up with a Yasuo? This would help confirm or deny the viability of my ideas.

I think your advice is solid and it's basically how I approach it. Like I said, I don't have trouble with him anymore. He was so insanely popular that I had to learn to face him.

So I guess my point is that even knowing how to beat him I still don't like him.

PS: Personally I wouldn't pick Karthus but I don't really play Karthus anyway. I would suggest that people just learn their main champ's matchup into Yasuo.

To be fair, getting caught with Karthus isn't hard, and doing so normally puts you in a bad situation. However, a careful Karthus can usually win.

ofc he can. I meant that I think it's better to learn the matchup on whatever champs you play rather than learning a new champ to counterpick him.

That's like... every champion good champion though. All the good champions in the game force you to think about interacting with them differently, unless you're fighting braindead mid mages like lux or ahri.

Nah Yasuo is a different beast entirely.

same here I laughed when I realised that since I had a hard time in the past dealing with the bastard before getting used to his bullshit.

-Karthus does not counter Yasuo. Yasuo is very mobile champion and will chase down a Karthus with ease if he's not in lane. Dashes only help him dodge Q. If the yasuo is half decent he should be winning lane.

-Once his windwall is down it's not always possible to fight him. Most ranged mages lack any all in threats like Taliyah or Orianna. Even if they have a strong all in it can't really be compared to Yasuo's since he outdamages and has more mobility than a lot of mid matchups.

-well yea

-Yasuo is a fake squishy, with his passive and windwall it feels like he's a tank.

-Being in autoattack range often means there are minions near, which means he can dash to you, which means missing potential skillshots, and even if you do hit them it doesn't mean he isn't able to auto, Q, or just run you down and all in you.

It's not that Yasuo is overpowered or anything, but he's definetly overloaded and is probably one of the strongest champions in the game because the number of ways he can outplay and deal with any situation is pretty infinite. The best way to deal with him is not fight him and wait until you group since he's terrible in teamfights. Coming across a good one is one of the most oppressive things in the game.

Taliyah has a terrifying level 3 all-in, especially if your opponent disrespects your Q damage.

You are missing something dude our problem isn't the lane Yasuo , that's a free win for sure , our Problem is the Mid game and Late game Yasuo , if he runs to you , you are dead Unless you are a mage that has mobility like Ahri , you can't run Annie She is safe against Yasuo since her w and ult aren't blockable but she is meant for champions like him Lux doesn't matter if she hits her spells or he blocks them , running to Yasuo means she is dead Yasuo in lane is pretty much a free lane and we all are supposed to know how to deal with it since we faced him more than any other champions

This is why you need to shut him down early. Don't give him an inch.

1: Karthus is a good counter to him? I shouldn't even read the rest of your post because you have 0 clue what you are talking about. Karthus is Yasuos easiest matchup, and if not the easiest definitely top 3

His spells are not missiles, so the windwall provides no protection. Plus, Karthus can hit E when Yasuo gets too close. I counterpick Yasuo with Karthus frequently, and I can say that it works, at least for me.

2: 26 Seconds not 30 Seconds. It last 4 seconds giving it a downtime of 22 Seconds. Not 30

These are estimates. It's still a long time, which was the point I was trying to make.

3: Q stacks last 6 seconds not a few. If you back off he just zoned you from Farm and XP

As true as that is, he's probably going to waste time trying to line up his shot. If you stay back, you can still farm, but just don't get too close. Also, I have always considered 6 to qualify as "a few."

4: Zed is a skill matchup in Yasuo's Favor. Nobody is going to pick Yi mid

Ok, admittedly, I don't know Zed well enough. You caught me there. However, Yi can go jungle, and can gank for mid, can't he?

5: Wow an actual good one

I'm glad we agree on something.

You have literally been bronze 3 straight seasons

True, but I don't like ranked. I play one ranked match for every, I'd estimate hundred norms.

You actually have 0 clue what you are saying and clearly know nothing about the champ.

I believe I know enough. In addition, you admitted I knew something at point 5. Something is higher than 0.

I am sure this gave us all a good laugh though so thanks for that

Someone already posted about your toxicity, amusingly enough.

EDIT: Not only were you bronze 3 straight seasons, but you were Bronze 5

My elo alone is not enough to make everything I say gibberish. Come back to me with other counterarguments instead.

I like the part where you assume he doesn't know what he's talking about because you disagree with him. Also I'm not in the habit of making fun of people who get minor facts wrong, so you'll excuse me if I don't join you in laughing.

Khristophoros1 votes

I've seen bronze player who weren't bad at laning so they could actually understand laning vs a champ and still be bronze.

Climbing to higher mmr is all about macro decisions anyway. Laning is important but if you only have laning skill and nothing else you will be bronze.

"Bronze stomp champion", says the Bronze V...

While you are correct that Karthus can hit him, Yasuo has too much mobility for Karthus to reliably land Qs, especially at higher elos.

Windwall has a 26 second cooldown at rank 1, down to 18 seconds at rank 5, assuming the Yas doesn't build any CDR.

Two successful strikes of his Q takes approximately 3 seconds in the mid to late game.

Fragility is relative depending on the Yasuo's build. Lifesteal, along with runes like Fleet Footwork or items like item 3022, make Yas a pain in the ass to kill.

Igniting Yas early to get rid of the barrier before throwing out a combo is actually a viable strategy, as its first tick will use his shield, and it applies grievous wounds to counter his healing.

The fact of the matter is, his kit just isn't fun to play against, just like many of CertainlyT's champions (Zoe anyone?) His overall win rate might seem like crap, but that's only because he has a high skillcap. Even in high elos he's still pretty annoying to face.

If I can't pick my main into him I just play Kayle. She has ranged melee attacks so wind wall isn't particularly useful, she does a crap ton of mixed damage making most early defensive options useless, and can cancel out Yasuo's ult if you time your ult right. She's more mobile than Karthus, though not by too much, so if Karthus isn't working for you try her.

RenownedWheat422 votes

Kayle shits all over him and I love it. E baits out his wind wall which is hilarious, then you can just go around it and q him so he can't get away. R if needed but you likely won't.

Yasuo can do almost nothing to her.

Blåbæret2 votes

Yasuo fragile lol. Yeah man, let's ignore that passive + item 3022

RainXBlade2 votes

item 3022 base stat-wise is inefficient on Yasuo if he doesn't have the lifesteal or defenses to back it up though. Sure, the slow is very nice on him, but he's still relatively squishy if he doesn't have defense items or even a item 1053.

Also like, his shield lasts for only 1 second. It's only meant as a short window for him to avoid burst dmg, not to take in DPS. It's also easy to pop. Once he doesn't have his shield, he's pretty easy to jump on.

afmghost2 votes

{quoted}

To be honest, I don't see him building that until late game. Early game requires crit chance, item 3046 and item 3031 to be exact. Then you build sustain with item 3153(the attack speed helps, I think) and armor piercing with either build from item 3035. Until you have those items, getting item 3022 seems inefficient.

Yaśuo Main2 votes

Yeah man, lets ignore that his passive is taken down by anything that does damage, which includes sunfire and Tiamat and more. Meaning he has to Wind Wall to block it from being hit, which means he has no windwall, which means when windwall is down you can hit it, which means he has no defense, which means you can easily kill him.

5050BS2 votes

XinZhao mid or top vs Yasuo is a win lane unless the game gets to late game. The problem with Yasuo is that he is strong at all stages of the game. He is resourceless (Riot was stupid to ever make any champ resourceless) and has everything a champ could want. He is melee with range, he has HARD CC on a short CD, He has an Empowered Q that applies on Hits, he has sustain and Def and 200% AD scaling.

I just want to see bans on more threatening champions. So many teammates act like Ana enemy yasuo is the worst thing in the world. The truth is that it isn't.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

Worst: no. But among all the most annoying champs to deal with, he's the most likely to show up. (>_>)

I play unranked 3v3 though. So I don't really have a pedestal in ban debates anymore. :/

There is a very simple way to lane vs yasuo with any champion even if you dont know him that well, just let him push you in to the tower, and most trashuos will do so instead of freezing the lane, then just learn how to farm without loosing cs under turret, and then the yasuo is completely useless without your minions to dash around, and most important he cant escape after a bad trade without your minions. And then you just kill him, Easy peazy really.

PokladnicaZla1 votes

Seems like those only help if the Yasuo is a fast and famine player, rather than a real main. Same with Rengar for example, many people who play Rengar can one-shot with him if they're a doing well, but the only the mains will recnogize the best situation to go in and known what they can and cannot efficiently do. Same with Yas,if his W and passive are down,a main will play with more caution and make it harder for you to kill him
