Why are Talon and Aatrox so underplayed?

I know that Aatrox's problems have to do with how well his kit fits into the game or something like that. But I actually really like talon and feel he's pretty strong. Does he just have a weak leaning phase or what? They both seem like cool champs to me that can do a lot when they're ahead

  1. Because Aatrox is either op cancer, or pretty substandard. His kit doesn't allow any other state, it is too binary.

  2. Talon, while actually pretty decent with a number of favorable matchups in mid, isn't as popular or safe as Yasuo or Zed, so unless they stop being viable you tend to not see Talon.

Talon's pretty weak at first, yes. You'll be fighting ranged mages to make matters worse. He's definitely not Aatrox level of underplayed, but (even though he's my favorite champion) other assassins just kill... Better.

LeBlanc and Zed both have better laning, and can blink to safety. Katarina is AOE cleanup crew. Ekko is flexible. Rengar and Kha are junglers and don't have to lane. So what does Talon do best? Kill, and kill fast. He's reliable and quick, but if you can kill quickly and just as reliably on any other champion, then why would you pick Talon?

Mostly to abuse the few champions he counters. Get a kill, get a lead and proceed to kill your lane oponent basicly every time you walk back to lane as your ult CD is low as hell.

Aatrox is simply too hard to play to be worth the effort unless you're already really good at him, and the community is just convinced Talon is weak for some reason.

And no, Aatrox doesn't have a weak early game unless you don't know what you're doing. When played properly, he has one of the strongest early games in top lane. Played poorly, and you're going to get your bloodwell popped at lvl 2 like a chump.

As an Aatrox main, I can approve.

I think it's because early game matters a lot more now than ever before. The game snowballs very quickly. So there's no point in playing those like talon or aatrox with a weak early game when you can pick yasuo and be strong from level 1 to 18.

Talon is a melee assassin with one escape(kinda) who can be bullied very easily. you mainly hit 6 grab swifties and make all other lanes hell. I love talon for the amazing waveclear and teamfight as well as assassination but he does have a weaker laning phase with low mana.

Talon is overshadowed by Zed mostly. Zed is just better in the sense of assasinating his target and then escaping. Talon does the same but if he goes in both him and his target will die for it.
