Some reccomended builds are bad for new players.
I was watching a friend of mine play league. I was spectating him and giving him pointers as he went and reasoning with his confusion over things. He was a new player so I attempted to make him understand the meta and such as best as I could.
There was something that bothered me. It was the reccomended items.
He had picked Zyra, and after playing other games, he had always went with reccomended items.
Sure enough, he rolls into mid lane with a Spellthief's edge.
New players aren't going to understand the meta, they just pick whoever they want and hop into a team death match.
The reccomended build should have a tab or something that is reccomended for supports and one reccomended for the other role. A very common thing for newplayers is to think that their champion just sucks and then they get frustrated over it. It is understandable if someone picked Azir or Orianna as an example because those champions aren't very friendly to new players, but telling a new player to build items for the metagame that they know nothing about is just unacceptable in my opinion.
as a possible defensive item
should both be in the recommended items for most tanks as well. It should tell the player to get one boot type and to pick boots based on the enemy they are fighting.
Swapping out trinkets is also very important for midgame.
