Can We Talk About an AP Carry Vision Item?

So I lost this game. IMO it was because the enemy had a much more solid ward game. Everyone managed to win their lane on my team, but from mid game on it was like someone switched off the lights. I did my best to pick up the slack and tried to remind my team about vision but in the end it wasn't enough. I know there is an AP vision item but its a big investment and for not a lot of AP. It takes a lot of gold and a lot of time to build and isn't really viable on an AP assassin. Even something that gave 10 AP with 2 ward charges for 1000-1200g would make a big difference and allow people to take vision upon themselves if they really have to. Maybe that's a dumb idea but I really wish there was a better way to take control in this area when you aren't jungle or support. Thoughts?
