What do you think is the most pointless passive in the game?

Senteth··25 votes·7,263 views

Keep in mind that I'm not talking about passives that are underpowered, or even passives that don't fit the rest of the champions kit. I'm talking about passives that just seem... uninspired.

Like Shyvanas armor buff. Why not just give her more base armor?

It's at least a bit better since the re-work, but before it was absolutely horrible.

"Your passive is that you loose an inventory slot. That slot is filled with an item that can't be sold or exchanged. You can choose from three possible upgrades, but only one upgrade makes any sense."

junglerboy1611 votes

That item is also ridiculously cost efficient, slot efficient, and empowers his abilities. It gives a TON of free stats at max upgrade and allows him to have the highest AP of any champ other than Veigar (infinite scaling) and Cass (Built in multiplier).

Renekton literally doesn't have a passive, it's just a tooltip explaining how his resource works lol.

Sightless669 votes

Getting more of it when under half hp is a passive. With the bigger gains in teamfights now, it's actually pretty nice to have. I'd put it above Talon's.

Talon's passive still most useless passive NA

On a champion such as Ashe, Talon's passive would be pretty powerful. On a burst-based assassin, not so much.

The irony is that on Talon, Ashe's passive would be pretty powerful too.

this is probably why RNGesus insists that i always wind up having a Talon on my team when ARAM gives me Ashe Ashe let me just AoE armor shred/perma slow so you can do tons of damage

Lissandra's passive.

I hate it so much.

"Free spell every 18 seconds!"

Wtf does that have to do with ice, not to mention its useless after your first item.

Gotta love it.

1 KogMaw Ranged ADC with ability to gain even higher range, gets a close range explosion UPON DEATH. ** LIKE YOU FIGHT IN CLOSE RANGE LIKE Sion WHO BARELY GETS CS OFF HIS PASSIVE. **

2Lulu Your Q can only hit once even though its 2 bolts. boosts AA damage by what 15?

3Ashe "You get one critical strike if you haven't autoattacked in 34 seconds." item 3046 item 3031 endless crits

Surprised no one has mentioned Alistar yet. Not only is it pathetically underwhelming, it's pretty uninteresting as well. You basically forget it's there until you start accidentally stealing cs as support alistar. Unless you're playing jungle/top lane alistar that is, but that's not allowed. The only cs you're getting is the cs you accidentally steal, buddy!

junglerboy163 votes

AP Bruiser Alistar is when his passive becomes monstrous. RoA>Rylai's>Liandry's turns you into an unstoppable super tanky AOE Burning ball of death. His passive proc rylai's and liandry's, and the AP from those three items makes the base hurt a lot too (around 60-70 base damage based on runes, and then burning for 4% current HP per second on top of that).

It is very underwhelming as a support, but the double damage to minions + a sunfire cape make you push like a god, and helps you transition into a late game split push tank.

killd0zer3 votes

It was originally designed to let him jungle, but now they don't want him to jungle and it's just kinda weak.

Cale0178 votes

Actually, Shyvana's passive is there to augment her dragon form so that she can tank while in it much easier than other champions could and still build some spare damage. It isn't the most inspired thing, but it does serve a purpose.

Honestly, the passive for me that's the most uninspired for the game is probably Zilean's. It makes no sense at all. He's a time bending mage, so all of a sudden his teammates are... learning more? Why? If you want to say that it's because they're "growing" at an accelerated rate, why aren't their other over time stats also increased? If Zilean's passive is making time pass more quickly for his teammates, shouldn't they also have more health/mana regen, or lower cooldowns? Higher movement speed? Time is passing quicker for them than those around them, right?

McAllister8 votes

Passives that regain mana or grant free spells are generally weak, but Swain's is particularly bad and Veigar's takes the cake. Nunu needs to AA a lot to get free spells: this constrains support Nunu a great deal, makes jungle Nunu happy and is actually interesting on top Nunu. Lissandra has to hit spells to get more free spells. Kay. Swain has to last hit. You weren't doing that already? Veigar has to... spend mana. Really?

Solideus4 votes

To be fair, the more recent addition of an item 3174-effect to Swains passive is pretty intuitive given his Ult.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

The recent addition helped it a lot, but I still kinda feel like they could have just increased base mana regen and achieved the same effect. I wouldn't want them to disrupt his balance, though, because his kit feels complete and fair right now. I'm quite happy with it, even if I think it's a bit... "uninspired," was the word the OP used.

Solideus2 votes

I think the "on champion kill"-part is at least marginally better, given that you have to participate or take action to acquire it. It allows you to participate longer when you are successful.

Edbwn4 votes

Don't forget Xerath. His passive gives him a crap ton of mana if you let him auto attack you. Which you shouldn't, but still, ja feel

TecToNiiC4 votes

I was gonna say Shyvana too but on the slightly trolly note that defensive stats dont hold up late game so it is effectively useless :^)

SpecterVonBaren4 votes

Corki's. It adds nothing to his gameplay aside from maybe discouraging ap corki from being a thing.

EfficientDynamo4 votes

Any of the post-death passives outside of Karthus, and maybe Sion. It just seems illogical to tie up part of your kit's power in a passive that only becomes relevant when you die, which in an ideal game doesn't happen often.

Serious hate for Zyra passive though. The delay for when it arms, delay to fire, and slow missile speed makes it so annoying to use. Very satisfying when it lands, but it isn't something you can ever really count on.

Yasuo The double crit passive Hey we've got this wind based champion with a sword lets make his crit chance twice as high so hes incredibly hard to balance and can snowball insanely hard.

junglerboy163 votes

Anything that is not Poppy's passive is by default weaker.

Ashe's passive is 1 crit every 20 seconds if you stand around doing nothing the whole time.

Most useless one I can think of.

Varus Killing a Minion or Champion grants a /VERY/ insignificant Attack Speed Buff. His W should be his passive and grant Varus an ability that brings him back to being viable in the current Meta. Since Riot has been focusing on mobile champs, Varus can't really do too well, also his initial base damage is incredibly low.

I love Varus and still continue to main him regardless, but he's fallen so low down the tier of good ADC's. He also hasn't been touched in a LONG time update wise besides a REALLY insignificant mana regen buff that is pretty much unnoticeable.

the Anarchit3cht2 votes

I don't know what you're talking about. I can't tell you how many towers I've downed and how much easier CSing is due to that AS speed boost. It also happens to be very significant when its a champion.

Laughing Fish2 votes

I think DrMundo's passive is a fail. It is just a useless version of Garen's passive. item 3083 alone is over 3x better while in combat, and a whopping 10x better when out of combat.

junglerboy1611 votes

Wrong, Mundo's passive is 0.3% of his max hp each second. It actually gives him 1.5% of his max health per 5, which is 50% stronger than Warmogs in combat.

Laughing Fish7 votes

Well color me surprised. Your right.

Fiora - Barely does anything if at all. Rammus - Goes pretty un-noticed. Could be something better. Zyra - Too slow :/

Volibear 's Chosen of the Storm. How exactly is being chosen by a storm giving you a passive that heals you.

Laughing Fish8 votes

The storm sent him on a mission to return the Ursine to their former glory, and kill Lissandra. He is a blessed bear, and he was not destined to die yet.

Thanks for letting me learn about the champ I like sincerely. Made me want to look up every champions lore now. I've always thought every lore was like Kalista's lore when I looked at Rammus' lore to confirm my suspicions. Then never again... until today. Thanks for the reminder.

Any chance you know why Volibear does not like Zilean?

Not sure Lore-wise, but I think it's because Since Volibear is preparing so hard for the future of his Ursine - and he didn't like how Zilean wants to solve his problems now just when bad things happened to him and his people. Like... You had the power of time and everything and you never really prepared for the worst case scenario?

The real reason I think because it had something to do with Riot Employees or something...

Sightless6612 votes

When people were demanding an armored bear champion, Zileas said on the forums when asked that he would never let an armored bear into the League. So, when one did come out, they decided that Zilean would carry on the righteous hatred that Zileas started.
