What is the deal with waterwalking?

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/a/ac/Waterwalking_rune.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/64?cb=20170926025335 While in the river, you gain 25 bonus movement speed and 3 − 18 (based on level) bonus Attack Damage or 5 − 30 (based on level) Ability Power (Adaptive).

Am I the only one who feels that this rune is far far too limited? I mean I like the idea of a roaming rune, but the river is only a convenient place to roam through until after the first towers fall. And most maps don't even have a river.

Edit: Okay so a lot of people have informed me that this rune is more of a jungle/objective securing rune rather than a roaming one. Which makes sense I suppose.

Still sad that it only exists on summoners rift though.

The question is, why do you need waterwalking when everyone else can walk on the water without it?

My main issue with it is that it is SR only. On SR, it's less restricted than one might think, since Baron and Dragon pit both are also river so it helps you around the two big neutral objectives.

The River is where junglers contest scuttle, it's where roaming champions run into eachother, and it's where the epic monsters are located.

River is where people roam to gank as well as where all of the important objectives are. It's perfectly fine as is.

I think the rune is fine, do not forget a lots of fights happens around the river :

Drake / Nash / Scuttler, also when you are roaming from mid to bot or top it's a nice boost as well.

Cheini1/8/2019, 6:03:54 PM1 votes

am guys, you do realize that nashor, the drakes and the scuttlers are in the river right?

so, if you like that playstyle (or is best for the team comp), ww can be quite op.. movement speed cross the map & buffs while taking objs.. it is mostly a choice, yet not a pointless one!

a lot happens in the river in any given match and the rune is very highly picked on jgers so i dont really see anything wrong with it

Anu3isII1/8/2019, 6:22:11 PM1 votes

From what I have seen, most junglers that pick Sorcery pick this rune almost automatically.

Arammus1/8/2019, 7:00:34 PM1 votes

i dont like the rune but its included in almost every top mid and jungle laner guide i ever read lol

Tormentula1/8/2019, 7:04:04 PM1 votes

Most junglers take it anyway, even Khazix values the ability to secure crabs, drakes, heralds, barons, and duel better in the river while roaming lane to lane a lot faster.

Not to mention if you're a jungler and get caught in the river by another jungler who does have it, you're fucked.

Its a lot stronger than what you see at face value.

One thing I want to know about water walking, I wish all damage runes were tuned around its level. And then they could all have some kind of cool little niche ability like bonus MS or maybe timed CDR or something, so that way we actually feel like we're customizing ourselves. As for this Rune itself maybe switching the movement speed bonus from a flat to a percent might help it? Part of my issue with it is I don't actually feel faster in the river unless I'm playing at Champs specifically meant to go fast in which case it's not terrible.

The stats it gives makes a huge difference. IN RIVER. As obvious as it sounds.

But this huge difference really shines when it comes to Rift Scuttler, Invades, Baron, Herald, and Dragon.

As far as availability goes. It was pretty strong in the OLD Nexus Blitz map where early game there laning was essentially ontop of a river. And if you were jungling it was a boon to have when ganking. It was universal then. Not so much in the new map. Actually the new NB map I believe lacks water features all together. A shame really.

They had no idea what to put in the sorcery tree beyond damage and movement speed. so they combined it both. "empowered abilities and resource" aka Damage, Damage, Movement speed Rune that should be in the resolve tree, Mana and mana regen, movement speed Cooldown&damage, movement speed, damage damage, Yours truly, damage

i think this is just a reworked rune from the old mastery tree which had the effect to give bonus movement speed while on river or bush, but adapted to have actual usage in game, you will only see it tho on junglers.

I actually like waterwalking a bit myself. I usually take it on supports that roam a lot like Bard, or junglers with a slow early game to aid in scuttle fights. It pairs well with Celery too. (yes, celery)

Kadexe1/9/2019, 4:17:01 PM1 votes

I like it the way it is. Lots of fights happen in the river, especially over scuttle crabs.

FOR JUSTICE1/8/2019, 4:13:53 PM1 votes

Iirc for maps that dont have a river its swapped out for scorch instead.

Revert Skarner1/9/2019, 6:47:48 PM1 votes

I take it exclusively on A-Sol cause its extremely good for closing in fast enough with E before the can see me via a ward.

Monstermushmush1/8/2019, 4:14:48 PM1 votes

Hmm. Do you think that they should include the jungle? I think that would be too strong though.

Marshbouy1/8/2019, 4:33:01 PM1 votes

it's definitely not super busted but it is taken on a lot of junglers and champions that like to roam frequently.

KmSneaky1/8/2019, 4:56:36 PM1 votes

Maybe it would be more interesting to have it work only in your side of the jungle + river, it would allow characters with a weak early game to react and defend themselves against invades and counter-jungle, though I guess oppressive early junglers like Khazix or Nidalee shouldn't be allowed to clear and move faster :/ i don't know.
