A Guide to Beating Yasuo! (Starring Lux)
Hey, I noticed a lot of people have been complaining about Ass-uo (whoops, I mean Yasuo :P ), so I thought I’d share how I somewhat beat Yasuo in mid lane as Lux. There are two ways to win lane: killing the enemy laner or outfarming them. With Lux, you can farm safely without dying, but I know some people find that boring, so if getting kills is more your style, then this guide isn’t for you.
If you’re still reading, here’s the basic idea. Spell order is: E, then W, then Q, then level E all the way, then Q , then W, also R whenever it’s available, of course. E is first because it’s how Lux farms safely, and it can also poke Yasuo no matter if he windwalls or not. It’s not a projectile, so as long as the glowy center part is on the same side of the windwall as Yasuo, it will damage him. As for W, it’s usually better to level up Q first on Lux because it does more damage than W shields for, but since you are just trying to survive this lane, not get kills, W is better. Yasuo has energy and lifesteal, meaning he rarely has to back, but you are not so lucky. Lux’s shield can shield her for a good chunk of Yasuo’s tornado damage, which is well worth it in my opinion. Q is last, because you have to get in range of all of Yasuo’s abilities to cast it, he can block it with his windwall, and even if you do manage to hit him, he can just lifesteal up the damage after like 1-2 minion waves. On the bright side (pun intended :) ), Lux’s ult is NOT a projectile, so cast away!
For spells, take flash and exhaust. Zonyah’s is a good first item, because of Yasuo’s all-in ult potential. After that, I guess regular Lux items. Idk what runes and masteries to take, I’m still kind of learning about those. Probably the regular Lux ones?
In lane, your goal is just to outfarm Yasuo. Auto minions when Yasuo’s tornado is down. When it’s up, that’s your cue to back up and farm from afar with E. If you’re good at dodging, do that. If not, either stay completely out of range or shield yourself so you won’t lose as much health if you get hit. Don’t worry about Yasuo’s dash so much. If he dashes right in your face, that’s your cue to do a Q + auto that applies passive combo. He might windwall it, but your Q will be up again before his windwall, so if he dashes again, you can definitely damage him. Also, don’t forget Yasuo can only dash when minions are around, while Lux can only stun when no more than one minion is in the way (her q hits two targets in a straight line). Don’t bother ulting Yasuo unless he’s low enough health you think you can kill him, it just wastes mana and forces you to back sooner. Do shove the minion waves to his tower with E if you plan on backing, you have the range to E waves almost to his tower without crossing the middle of the lane, and the little bit of time it takes to do this will be worth it so that Yasuo doesn’t take chunks out of your tower when you’re away. Watch for Yasuo to hit level six, and be ready to use exhaust or Zonyah’s if you have it. Also, keep an eye on your mana. You run out of it, he doesn’t.
Lux really shines (Punny!) in mid/late game teamfights, so as long as you manage to farm well and not die much in laning phase, you can still carry in the later game. Yasuo, on the other hand, can get stunned by you, attacked by your team, and die instantly. (Or he can tornado + ult you and you die instantly, but LET’S STAY POSITIVE!! WE CAN DO THIS!!)
This isn’t the best guide ever, I’m a casual player who hasn’t even played ranked yet, but for people who have no clue how to beat Yasuo/don’t know what champ to play against him, maybe this will help?
