I intended to play AD Alistar top, since it's actually very strong with the new bruiser items. Some guy locks in Renekton, and I expected someone to dodge. Well, I played AP Alistar mid instead. Talk about an awkward game.

Since nobody dodged, everyone was deadly serious. There were a few bad skirmishes for their team very early, like pre-10m. I got two kills, took turret, and froze the lane near my turret. Annie was down about 2k gold at any point in the game. It went pretty decently.

My team helped a lot with the first two kills. It also helps that they underestimate his damage, and the only one to build MR is Nasus/Janna.
Chuck Charles1 voteswell that you are a skilled player attests to why you were able to make it work. You happened to have a not so bad match up against annie as while she would bully you early on I imagine, once you got to 6 you could all in her without fear as your ultimate will cleanse her stun and nullify her ultimate and burst damage.
Imagine if you played this with old alistar where you could get free inch bane procs as you knock them away with W.
I have always felt that if you are the better player though, 99 times out of 100 you will win your lane if there is not heavy interference from jungle/other lanes.
