Is Riot really that bad?

Kürama··4 votes·424 views

I see players complaining about Riot not listening to feedback everyday. Is this really valid, or do they just not want a change?

Riot strived to be the most player focued game company in the World. How are they gonna achieve that by ignoring feedback?

I see some areas where they could really listen and implement feedback, and then there are some things people rage at Riot because of a particular change. I usually test these changes and I'm like "meh", meaning it's not that bad, sometimes it isn't even half bad.

I'd like some serious answers on why you think Riot ignores feedback.

Just try it out for yourself. See something that doesn't look right? Say so.

Hope that champ isn't Zed or Lee or some other darling of the capital company, because the most that'll happen to them is Riot will praise how healthy they are ... while Zed insta-kills you under your tower and shadows back without taking a hit.

I actually try my best to shit on Lee and Zed in every game they're on the enemy team. I usually shit on most of them.

And like I said, most of nerfs they implement I'm like "meh".

From my own experience Riot can extremely selective about what they hear and some designers listen more than others. If you find one that listens great. However you might find one who will figuratively say to you "I don't give a crap about your (group of fans) input."

I've never really seen a Rioter hint that.

Sadly I have and it was in response to me, so consider yourself lucky.

I have. Directed towards me. Heck, I've even been told to leave league because I disagreed with them.

They have ignored player feedback on the PBE for an extremely long time now, after the massive 'riot' and ranting on the forums and player feedback Riot most likely should have heard about . . . they still shove out what they worked on acting like it's none of our business what goes on in the game we play.

"You are working back'wards' on jungle diversity!" -The community

"Oh okay, i'll just increase the price for jungling, and to increase teamwork we will set up a warding limit so you can only put down 3 wards." -Riot

"Zed is a problem!" -The community

"Oh, well we will nerf his attack speed by 0.00001 divided by zero." -Riot

"You just destroyed Sona with the rework, you've been nerfing her for months and you actually have the nerve to question why Sona players are building AP and damage items for obvious reasons. Can we at least ask why Sona has apparently unpredictable or unstoppable poke compared to the other champions in the game? Cough Zilean CoughKarma

". . . "We've decided on these patch notes to further the nerfs on Sona."" -Riot

Should i keep going or?

Well forum posts with 300+ upvotes didn't recieve an actual warning why they removed Sona and other champions from the game. The only thing they actually give us is that they have 'tools' to assist them rather using player feedback, and that forum posts are only a small percentage of what this community believes in. So basically, get this forum post about . . . hmmm let me see hold on i need to count, i failed first grade so just give me a second.

. . .

. . .

I would say the league community is made up about 67 million people player league of legends, well Google says this so get it like 4/5 of those people to upvote this post, because that is totally reasonable and therefore means that Riot should actually listen. So clearly these 'tools' are more efficient than the people who have a mind and care about the game enough to venture forward onto the forums. Man I've gotta get me some of these 'tools' for college, I really need an easy way out of Sociology . . .

People are complaining every day for things that take weeks to implement. People just need to be patient.

It's also worth mentioning that League isn't a democracy. If Riot has a pretty good Idea what they want out of a particular champion. It's Unlikely that People will be able to change their mind. And in some cases, the player's don't know what they want. where QQ threads turn into PLZ Buff threads in less than one patch.

But in a case where players know what they want, but Riot wants something else, why does Riot win? They are wanting to be the most player focus game company after all.

BECAUSE IT'S THEIR GAME. And forums count for maybe 1% of the player base. Just because they are Player Focused doesn't mean they have to give in to every whim. That has Probably caused more problems with champions getting over nerfed.

You serious about the last part? Like they really over nerfed champs because of rage?

Because stink levels need to be MASSIVE for Riot to listen anymore. They got their reputation while they were a small time company. Now that they are big and famous, well, it's their game and they will do with it as they see fit.

This isn't exactly a new sentiment either. Communication is at an all time low, and frankly the amount of stink that needs to be generated before ANYTHING happens is beyond rediculous.

Example - Take note of the OP containing a large quantity of threads, and consider that these are only the ones that got enough attention to merit linking.

The fact that they used to be known as the "player focused company" is, well, just the past. It's been long enough that Riot is going to need to prove they want to fix communication before the player base starts believing it again. Because honestly, they haven't really implemented anything since the boards. And even then, the Boards aren't complete, and communication is actually worse than it was when we were still hobbling along on vbulletin.

tl;dr - The old level of communication simply doesn't exist anymore, and hasn't for a long time. They need to actually address the issue of communication, and not blame it on bad formatting or that they don't like what they see. Communication is a two way street, and if it's implemented as one way to a brick wall people are going to be upset.
