A bad player? Lux. A general pick? Viktor, they tend to have a more vested interest in their champ. Good player? Still Viktor, he offers more power.

I only take a bad lux over a bad viktor because viktor has more micromanaging between upgrading his passive, moving his ult, and positioning those lasers while I only need one randomly flung lux Q to hit for her to have been useful in a fight.

I see...

but what do you mean by Viktor players tend to be more vested in their champ?

Viktor isn't the easiest champion to pick up. He requires a bit more skill than a number of other champions to use correctly. In fact Viktor used to be considered one of the hardest champions to play well in the game, though that was in his shadow days when barely anyone played him.

He also isn't insanely popular. It all boils down into most Viktor players have a good number of games under their belt. For reference 43% of Viktor players in Plantinum+ have over 200 ranked games on him. That is probably a higher percentage than I have seen for many other champions. He is difficult to pick up, not too flashy or popular, but a strong pick that people like to stick with and master.

In all honesty Lux isn't that far behind him. However I always find they quickly hit the skill requirement to play their champion and then stop progressing.

Lastly as a former Viktor player I have a better understanding and knowledge of how to support him than I do a Lux player. So that probably plays into it.

So in Bronze language...

"Viktor is more of a Try Hard character than Lux?" (the people playing him are more likely to be Vik addicts?)

Basically. Not sure try hard is the right word, but his players stick to playing him more.

I think that the type of people attracted to him are the types of people I would rather have too. His is all about machinery and evolution and very scientific-y things. I find it tends to attract people who like to reason things out whereas Lux tends to attract people who act despite facts if that makes sense? People who either are optimistic to the point of ignoring facts. The kind of people who try the same thing over and over expecting it to go better.

Plus as an analytical person (If positive one) I tend to work better with other logical people rather than overly emotional people because I understand them better.

Honestly the more I think about it the more elements there are. To put it very simply if I met the average Viktor main and the Average Lux main I would probably get along better with the Viktor main, and I would rather have that person on my team than an equally skilled Lux player in just about any situation.

I can see why people stick with him though. When first playing him he feels awkward, clunky, and the damage seems low. But if you stick it out for a while he starts to play like a powerful AOE mage.

His Q is super reliable. The laser comes out pretty fast, and I like how (despite the ticks), R applies some INSTANT AOE damage to an area and can be fired quickly. It takes a while to learn how to Gravity Field but it soon goes from being completely useless to one of the more useful CC abilities.

I used to be able to play lots of skillshot mages moderately well but after sticking with Viktor a while all the other mages (Lux included) feel like their spells do not hit fast enough compared to Viktor. Viktor's spells just seem to come out and hit really fast once you get the hang of it. It actually combos really smoothly and there's a lot of split second decision making.

I definitely understand the above. Whenever I play as Viktor, I feel like a powerful but coldly logical scientist-mage character. Basically a League variation of Dr. Doom with a bit of a Sherlock Holmes/Robert Downey Jr. vibe.

If I play as Lux or Ziggs and our team starts losing I start to panic. But if its Viktor...

"Hmmm... should I roam now? Nah, Bot is too behind but since Top has CC and is even I might go there... let's push and then go..."

or

"Hmmm... this kiting and poking thing's not working so I need to re-adjust my engagement range. Lets play more of a hide-and-seek/Flanking Annie Burst style play instead. Re-adjust focus on the Backline, use Summoners to engage safely."

or

"Our team's ahead, so I'll play it safe and calm and just shoot at them with lasers from a safe distance, closing the win with safe but firm follow ups"...

Maybe the character just lends itself to that kind of play.

The champions you play do have an effect on your attitude.

For instance, I know a Talon main who's very serious when it comes to League. Another example is that not long after picking up Lulu my favorite color changed to purple. And every main of a certain champion usually acts the same (Riven mains are usually considered salty because Riven herself is so disgruntled).

I find it strange how that works.

Oh is that how she's supposed to com across? (disgruntled)

I've played her a few times and during the time I thought... is she supposed to be a bit of a hipster under mystic influences?

"A Sword Mirrors Its Owner."

DA FUQ?

"What is Broken Can Be Reforged."

I was very confused about her character. I mean the lore kind of sets it out but in game... her personality is very strange and cryptic. And the quotes come across edge.

Technically it'd depend on the comp, but I'd usually prefer Viktor over Lux. Viktor is tankier than Lux, so he doesn't need as much peel. He also has a bunch of self peel (Shield/haste, Slow/Knockup, and short silence) compared to Lux. Lux has better long ranged poke than Viktor, though, so in a siege comp, I can see Lux being a better pick in that circumstance.

His abilities are also SUPER satisfying to fire off when they are hitting.

Just imagine the random player walking by a bush when a Dr. Doom/Phantom type mad scientist steps out and places a Gravity Field and a Chaos Storm out while firing off a bunch of lasers in rapid succession.

"YOU ARE SO DEAD."

I agree, but how satisfying to play doesn't really matter to the teammates.

Viktor is far more difficult as a champion but has more options. So that depends on the skill of the player and what the team needs.

Low-med skill player and team lacking burst? Lux Hi skill player with a team needing more control? Viktor

Other than the difficulty and some things with the kit, they're pretty similar. Both are AOE heavy mages with CC.

Well since lux is getting her stupid ult buffed, id have to pick lux. Just need to land one Q and BAM your dead, hell she will have her ult so offten you wont even need to land a Q, just click R on a enemy champion who isnt on full health, and if you kill them you get your ult again in 15 seconds

To balance it out...

I'm sure its only a matter of time before Viktor gets an extra tick on his R for every tick he lands (so theoretically if he sets it up well, it can tick away until their whole team is dead).

Oh wait never mind...
