Aatrox is a champion that's easy to counter with simple positioning. I've mained the guy since his rework and he's so slow and telegraphed that he's easily punished. If you're going to play Aatrox you need to have restraint in the laning phase and really pick your moment, otherwise your Qs simply get walked out of, and it feels so bad.

Learn restraint on Aatrox, how to poke and find your moment to all in, then learn how to compensate for enemy trying to maneuver around your telegraphed Q. More often then not they try to walk behind you to counter your all in, just mouse over and redirect it in anticipation! Don't be afraid to use your ult, it's nothing but a steroid like Yi now.

As far as builds go, Grasp, Conq, Electrocute are your main stays depending on the enemy team and yours. You'll want to be more tanky if your team has lots of damage and so forth.

Many people go for as first item, I tend to lean on as first item because you can more easily 1v3 (I've pulled it off more than once as Aatrox) early game and get 2 kills or flat our get a triple. It's insane. As always, build for the situation.
