I just stole the Baron with The Vision of the Empire

Evil Bisex Plant··49 votes·2,828 views

Everyone is hating on that spell and it's my most favourite one actually. I love how they preserved the tactical theme in it and I love to use it.

Man I tell you, this was the best feeling I had playing League in past two years. Thank you, Riot. At first, I was SO MUCH skeptical about your rework, but now I'm in love.

Pics or it didn't happen: https://youtu.be/oLI6VwS0cS4

PS: Please, don't buff Swain prematurely. I fairly sure people just didn't find the right build and runes yet and they will not even longer because of the AP items changes. Consider that first, buff after, even though everyone's complaining.

Edit: I'm showing this clip off more for the funny aspect of it and I'm using it just to reveal my thought about Swain's W, because I don't want only people who want to rework/overbuff it being heard.

Edit 2: I've just seen the Swain buffs on PBE. Yes, these are good. I'm a fan.

While I am glad for your success, one lucky baron steal doesn't dictate rework of ability or entire rework of champion as success or fail. I once stole dragon I had no vision or info about other than enemies doing it... With Vel'Koz Q. Nearly pissed myself laughing indeed, but I wouldn't judge Vel'Koz Q on that in any way.

Here we can only judge the control it gives by range, which I guess may be your point and yeah, it was good idea, but it still may not tell anything about the delay being accurate for example.

Additionally, maybe I am blind, but the reason you stole it was also because the enemies maybe didn't even see it coming. Literally. Both the eye and area got easily lost in the visual noise.

I don't say it purely based on this occurance, I came to this belief right after the release and made myself sure after a week of spamming him.

And yes, it was so fking hard to see, I did not notice it until 3 seconds later and my team even did so when we were pushing their inhib turret after. That was the other hilarious thing about this steal - and that was the intention of me sharing it here, the hilariousness (is that even a word?). [sg-ahri-2]

He never even hinted that the 2 correlate he showed a clip of him getting a cool steal and, then talked about how swain should be allowed to settle before any major buffs

I've seen what the new swain can do... I don't think he needs any buffs tbh. He's fine where he is. Infact, he may be a little on the strong side so far.

ModKnightsKemplar6 votes

That's a cool clip, but I wouldn't be opposed to some minor buffs at this point. I think he's a bit mana hungry to take full advantage of his Q in lane, and that seems to be holding him back quite a bit.

The more I think about it, the less I think W is as big a problem as Q; it just needs a bit of tuning so that he can actually waveclear.

Personally I only have mana problems up til item 3010, then my mana pool has become large enough for the 3% to justify my mana usage.

As far as mana is concerned, I'd really prefer if they wait till 8.4 has hit live for any changes. The AP item overhaul will major impact everything, and I strongly suspect that Swain will love the ability to build Archangel's staff for 20% CdR and 1.4k mana.

To be fair, my build already starts with Morello now and I think he benefits from the current iteration of Liandry's, so in my opinion he might actually end up little bit worse (at least for me as he will loose alot of AP from my current build if I wanted to keep it similar), but we'll see.

RocketRelm1 votes

Archangels gives more AP than Morellos though, starting about 5 minutes after purchase. I don't think he'd lose AP overall.

That's assuming Archangel doesn't get nerfed though.

That's actually my only issue with him and a buff I wouldn't mind if they pushed early: Q mana cost decrease. But then again, he's oppressive af to melees even now...

lol no he is not, melee champs run him over hard

Electro5221 votes

Not sure why you think this, but someone like a Zed is useless against him. Only melee I've had trouble with so far is Cho'gath, and a smurfing Katarina.

It's mages he struggles against because of his short range, and low mobility. From what I've seen, he is very easy to kite and poke. Sure, he can harass you no matter where you are, but he needs to be in range of pretty much every other mage in the game to do so.

Melee champs run him over hard only when the Swain player sucks ass. Otherwise, they are absolutely not allowed to farm, trust me, I spam him and I was beaten in lane once by melee: it was the second time of me playing him, against Riven main.

Since then there never was a melee champion that left the laning phase mentally healthy. All the Dianas, Katarinas and Fioras, all raging super hard in chat how busted Swain is. Katarina yesterday was ABSOLUTELY not allowed to be even near the creeps, she had like 30 when I had like 80 - and I suck at lasthitting. As Paleo Electro already pointed out, quite opposite: He struggles hard against mages that outrange him and/or have a way to answer his E->pull (f/e Viktor - a played against two so far and both were pain in the ass with laser poke and shielding half the damage I meant to deal with that combo, now to mention Gravity Field thrown on my head as I perform it - and all his damage goes through creeps).

Electro5221 votes

He actually does have buffs on the PBE right now.

Early mana cost on W reduced Heal during ult increased And health drain cap limit to recast lowered at rank 1

Very small buffs, but decent for now I'd say.

GrReaper962 votes

Theyre already reducing his W mana cost by 20 at rank 1 which is a huge lane buff. Granted he barely uses his W in lane, it does help that the mana cost is reduced

I Main Swain1 votes

imo his q in regards to the weak early game is working exactly as intended and as it should be. he needs that weak point, and the 50 range boost on his aa's in my experience so far more than compensates for the damage it does to his waveclear potential. my csing early game has actually become enormously better with the new swain, i rarely miss a cs now and by wittling down minions properly i can use my q to speed my waveclear while barely denting my mana pool. so far its working really well, imo it just takes some getting used to for most people

Z3Sleeper2 votes

After playing against him top lane, I see why he has mana issues. He does 60%-ish health in one full combo. The only thing stopping him from doing it repeatedly is those mana costs.

I'd be fine with them increasing the mana refund on Q for killing minions though. It seems awfully low early game.

Swain is legitimate garbage. While they shouldn't go nuts with buffs he needs some buffs to become relevant

Sorry it's nice that you stole baron, but that baron should have never gone to your team when lee sin had no reason to be scared of failing smite.

Your jungle was dead and they had vision to see when exactly your teammates will come through the jungle (Not blue buff entry but it doesn't matter since they knew which direction jinx will come from after she shot her ult).

This wasn't you being good to check baron with your long range ability cause that's just common sense, this was the lee sin misplaying hard.

Sorry but you should read the post, you clearly didn't.

"I'm showing this clip off more for the funny aspect of it," look, I'm even that kind I actually took that quote and stuck it in your face, you are welcome, still can't find the passage where I say how fking good I am and how Rito should put me in Challenjour immediately.

God I hate pricks like you who think how smart they are, writing books about a 24 seconds long videoclip, while being only ignorant. desperately trying to hold myself from saying "you need to bring your ego down so it matches your syndrome" oops, I did it anyway

Now you see, that was very unnecessary. I’m on your side, but you were way more rude than the other guy. He wasn’t trying to show off or anything; he was just pointing something out. Yeah, he was wrong in saying “this wasn’t you being good”, but you just went off on him when all you needed to say was “that’s not what I’m talking about”. No need to get all up in a huff about it.

"I'm showing this clip off more for the funny aspect of it,"

Wasn't funny to me at all but whatever different players have different taste in humor.

PS: Please, don't buff Swain prematurely. I fairly sure people just didn't find the right build and runes yet

I'm sure someone from diamond+ would have found whatever works for swain by now (especially in korea), if nothing works then there is something wrong with swain that needs to be dealt with.

Like i don't know the fact that his kit has too much counterplay? Of course you won't feel it in your games since you're playing with mainly silvers/golds/plats but in higher elo that will get punished much easier.

Which is sad cause i enjoyed watching quas play swain before his rework and then on the first day of release he had to get on his smurf, and then stopped that to play normals because he felt bad that his teammates had to deal with his useless swain. I haven't seen any of his streams since cause i missed them but his title for the past few streams has been "losing games aka learning swain".

If it takes that long for a challenger to learn how to play a champ at a acceptable level for their elo then something is wrong.

Also the ornn happened was cause riot loves to give champions multiple buffs at the same exact time. That buff to his ultimate he got at the same time they gave him max hp damage was the only buff he needed to be viable. But no riot has to go overboard to pump out sales.

Mysticman892 votes

I do expect swain is somewhat stronger than people think currently once people master him, but I don't think that baron steal is reflective of much, as unless theres a way to get enough AP that it does more damage than smite (and really here lee sin Q2+smite), it's not something that should ever happen when people are playing well.

swain is strong as fuck in the right hands, and does NOT need buffs.

Xithek1 votes

Swain is not that strong especially in top lane. I've barely seen him succeed in games thus far. Sure he hasn't been out long, but I don't feel like he can even match what old Swain is capable of.

THE RlVER KlNG1 votes

this doesn't prove anything

you can steal baron with something like janna w or nidalee trap or an eve q, doesn't mean its a great ability by that metric alone

swain w still sucks ass in my opinion. slow, huge cost and cooldown, doesn't actually hit that hard anyway, only useable if you time e perfectly and the opponent isn't bright. the big range isn't all that impressive when you consider something like jhin w which has only 500 less range but his 10x more useful

I Main Swain1 votes

EXACTLY!!! i actually had the exact same thing happen, and ive also gotten multiple kills from the fog of war just by figuring where the low enemy who just left would most likely be. i am in love with this new swain its so fun and super good

ChuShoe1 votes

Seeing all the crows fly into the ruins around baron after you steal it is really cool and terrifying. I don't know if anyone else noticed it so I wanted to point that out.

Also nice name

Sex With Annie1 votes

In my experience playing swain, he is actually dogshit. His CC is trash His damage is nonexistant His Utility is worthless.

Your Q tickles enemy champs Your W doesn't do any damage despite being impossible to land on anyone who is paying attention to where they're moving or isn't rooted in place Your E Is disgustingly hard to land with such a long travel time and the gimmicks behind it. Your R heals you for a health pot worth of hp and intimidates the enemy team into killing you instantly.

Just play galio

AetherArising1 votes

Honestly, swain's fine. I've seen enough of him to see that it's just another ornn-syndrome where some people can hypercarry and some are hot fucking garbage and its mostly because nobody understands the niche combos of his kit if there are any (like with camille buffering her W and E to slash mid-flight, etc.)
